The Batman TV Show Is Fantastically Weird

- This might be my new favorite show right now. I hope you guys don't hate this video because I'm going to do a part 2 pretty soon...
Anyway, taking that break from UA-cam was so nice. My stress levels went way down, and I'm ready to get back into it... bitch. That's right, I'm edgy now. Get used to it.
I'm sorry, I'm not edgy and I apologize for that.
Also, it's my birthday today! Just a little fun fact. I hate when people make a big deal out of their birthday, cuz like, who cares... But I figured I'd tell you just in case you want to send me a few hundred dollars on PayPal.

batman not allowing robin into the bar and saying "its the law" feels like batman
Admitting he is too drunk to drive the moment someone brings it to his attention is also perfectly on point.
I love how over the years this portrayal has slowly gained ground as somehow the most faithful to the material live action version.
He sure let the bar inside Robin though. 😂
Really? Feels more like Superman. Then again I grew up with Tim Burton's Batman, the one who looked like a high school English teacher but then went around saying 'c'mon let's get nuts!
Batman ALWAYS has exactly what he needs in his utility belt. In the full movie, he has a can of shark repellant bat-spray.
The Riddler is also in that movie with one of my favorite Adam West batman riddles of all time:
"What's yellow and writes?"
Answer: A ballpoint banana.
What weighs six ounces.sits in a tree and is very dangerous.
A sparrow with a machine gun
Guess who is going to start hissing in theatres now? This guy.
I was hissing at Thanos, and people were shushing me, but I thought they were hissing too, so I hissed even more!

🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍
My favorite episode is when Batman finds the villain’s lair by drawing a random triangle on the middle of some random photo, points to the top point of the triangle, and declares to Robin, “If my trigonometry is correct, the lair is here,” and then Robin says, “Gee Batman, I’ll never neglect my math studies again.”
That’s amazing, but also I thought you said “if trigonometry is correct” as in, Batman would just randomly draw a triangle and lean very heavily on a mathematical concept he’s just guessing to be correct 😂
ahahahahha

I love how Dick Grayson is supposed to be a kid but is played by a guy in his 30s.
Edit: Editing this a year later because I still get comments on this. I was wrong! Burt Ward playing Dick Grayson/Robin was 19 when he first got the role and was 21/22 when the show ended. He just looks and sounds 30 in the show and the costume somehow makes him look older. Robin is supposed to be 15 in the show which makes the whole thing a bit more odd because he gets treated like a young teen in show but is clearly a grown adult. But that also arguably fits the tone of the show.
That’s just the entirety of 60s tv
There's a love story there that's not being addressed...

@@first_last_101 oh yikes. I was convinced he was older. What sort of weird growth hormone did people consume then?

I would be so happy if goofy, fun Batman made a comeback and just got introduced with no transition or explanation at all in the next movie. Same mansion, dramatic lighting, everything else the same, just goofy Batman in super depressing “everything is so serious” Gotham. The outfit would have to be the Adam West style one too.

As A Batman 66 fan, it gives me joy to see that you enjoyed the silliness. So many people outright shit on the show because it's seen as a slight against 'Batman's masculinity'. And I'm here like 'man, all live action should just be cartoony like this. I'd care more.' Of course I also like BTAS and think that's like, the best version of Batman... But, but... How can you not like stuff like the Riddler's mad tittering? Or Eartha Kitt's Catwoman purring every other word? Look me in the eyes and tell me you don't love the fact you can see Joker's mustache underneath his makeup.
You can't, because it's glorious.
The first season is very good but it quickly goes in the dumper in seasons 2 and 3. They didn't have a strong show runner who really loved and understood the material like shows such as Arrow or the Flash

I'm not going to lie, I immediately guessed The Riddler. I wish we could get more varied villains from Batman's rogues gallery more often. I mean I like the Joker, but the other villains just bring a different dynamic. I think I would like to see Mr freeze or Two Faced more. Or even some antiheroes like Catwoman (man, I think I just need to replay the Arkham games lol)

Late reply but Frank Gorshin was a God-tier Riddler. He had so much energy and always seemed like he was having a good time.
@@pikapower_kirby I totally agree. I actually liked the Riddler more than the Joker in this version.
@@cadenlarson3189 I really liked both of them, especially in the movie where you can tell they had way too much fun together.
I'm surprised the joke about the smokers on the boat isn't more well-known. I heard "there are four men on a boat" and knew. Now I can't tell if that's a common knowledge joke, or some obscure piece of media I just randomly happen to know.
This is the height of superhero media. I don’t make the rules, folks.
They throw one overboard and the whole boat is one cigarette lighter.. I saw that on a meme of pooh bear looking confusingly at a piece of paper a couple months ago and died laughing haha
Sounds like a fun meme 😂
Something about throwing a man overboard to make it "lighter", and then using the lighter to light the cigarettes.
I really hope that isn't actually it.
Edit: I was close, I guess...
Well...
They throw a cigarette so the boat is a cigarette lighter
Sounds like a similar joke to the final one in the killing joke as Batman and joker laugh the night away
The Riddler was an interesting choice for the villain in the first episode. He had only appeared in two Batman stories in 1948, then was forgotten for 17 years and returned in 1965, in a story that was the basis for this episode.
BTW, the costume at 16:15 was what the Riddler wore in all of his comic book appearances. Frank Gorshin wasn't that comfortable in it, so his Riddler added some variety to his wardrobe. In the 1980s, the comic book Riddler started doing the same.
That was more like a pun than a riddle 😄
A cigarette lighter! 💀
The answer was, "they throw one cigarette overboard and the boat is a cigarette lighter"
I don't know how I remember that.
Edit: Dang I got it right. I watched this too much as a kid.
Sure
Bruh me too I once got asked this riddle in 3 grade 🥺

@@scottsytravers2650 My dad told me this riddle once and I never forgot it. It's definitely a known riddle.
The 1966 Batman show is absolutely amazing.
Also Riddler is a freaking beast, play the Arkham games and you'll know what I mean.
Could've just called Dick Richard.
Carl Pointing wym the riddler is such an annoying pussy in those games😂 he literally locks himself in a cage and refuses to come out until you’ve solved his puzzles
@@Bubdiddly that's what makes him so great! He is insane. He just wants to cause people pain and frustration in the puzzles he creates.
Apparently dick didn't mean penis in the 60s
Great Scott Dick joke might be my favorite moment in any YT vid.
Having read comics book my entire life, this is my favorite version of Batman. It's goofy and it's weird, but it's so very accurately Batman. He doesn't kill people, he has a RIDICULOUS amount of preparedness and an absurd array of gadgets that are SO specific. Like, it got Batman right ore than pretty much any other live action version did (especially around the time being that most comic books in the 50s and 60s were ABSOLUTE bonkers and made little to no sense)
Also Batman is the world's greatest detective and yet Robin solves every riddle. Dick Grayson isn't even the version of Robin that's of comparable quality to Batman's detecting level. So that's very funny to me
Imagine growing up with this show as your only exposure to the Batman universe and THEN Michael Keaton's Batman version comes along when you're a teen. Now THAT'S jarring. AND AWESOME.
they aren’t that different lol
That was my exposure, plus the Superfriends cartoon on Saturday morning where he was more serious but not brooding and depressing by a long shot.. (In the late 1900s we had Saturday morning cartoons. Every week we ate overly sweet cereal and watch like 4 hours of cartoons.) That Michael Keaton Batman was a big deal for kids (I was a teenager at the time) but I was disappointed by the lack of humor and likability of the character. But I was in the minority.
@@gezi5927 are...are you serious? You think the Adam West Batman and the Michael Keaton Batman are the same? Wtf

I loved this show as a kid. I was born in 1983 in Sweden and when I was a child it was often shown on Swedish television.
My friends and I used to play that we were Batman and the villains and especially the fight scenes.
I still love it, it even had Bruce Lee in some episodes like The Green Hornets sidekick Kato (which was also an own show at the same time). It's something special to see Bruce Lee in a fight scene where he fights a masked teenager wearing a yellow minicape and green hotpants.
15:58 -- If you've seen Pulp Fiction you should recognize this as the origin of one of John Travolta's dance moves in the dance contest scene. Also, if you like this show you should definitely check out the two 1940s Batman serials ("Batman" and "Batman and Robin") that inspired it.

It's a masterpiece
This is pretty much how I was introduced to Batman when I was little

You are so lucky to have discovered it went you did. I loved the Mayor campaign episode, and I read a 80's Batman film What If'ed an alternate ending to that episode. I loved the series (and had the toy car when I was young, and yes there is plenty of Batman and TV magic in the show.
The Bat-tusi was glorious. I've even imitated it.
Listen to those PSA's Greg, they will make you a good citizen.
If you are into retro superhero shows, then this iteration of Batman was a reaction in part to the series from the 1940's. Isis and Shazam and their Power Hour (3 different shows) were shows I remember waiting on pins and needles for during the week. A really bad parody of Batman and Robin was Electra Woman and Dyna Girl.
There was The Challenge of the Superheroes, which I thought was a series at the time, and was so disappointed that their were only two episodes. There were other shows including Captain America, Spider Man, etc. in the 1970's but none as enjoyable as the Bright Knight (the name given to this version of Batman after the Dark Knight made his appearance in the 1980's, and understand that mainstream folks associated Batman with the campy 60's series mostly until after the Dark Knight popularized a different version of him).
Hope you enjoyed the series, it and it's PSA lessons have a fond place in my heart.
The wall hook can be used for many things aside from hanging things. It can be used as a harness, a pulley system to lift a drop items.
Fun fact Tim Burton’s Batman set a dark tone for Batman that you’ve come to know because warner brothers wanted to separate themselves from the campy show so it’s so different from what you’re used to because the studio literally wanted the opposite of the show
This show used to sometimes air on some random really old shows channel on cable. When i couldnt find anything to watch id sometimes watch this. I loved it, its a hilarious gem
