For anyone wondering it's called "The Narrows". Shouldn't be kept a secret from anyone.
I’ve been here a couple of times. It’s interesting, but it is a VERY long, hot and difficult hike up a stream bed. It’s much easier if you trespass, instead of following the stream, to get there; if you trespass, you should expect to be arrested.
Unless you just need to bag this specific spot, places like the Blue Hole, Jacobs Well, the Guadalupe, San Marcos, Frio and Blanco Rivers are much better options.
Looks a beautiful spot, gotta make the effort to get down there soon!
Damn, I lived in Austin forever & never heard of that place! Those Gar where exotic & beautiful, they will not hurt you! I guess you know by now the fish were catfish. What a dreamy place! It would be great to know where it is!
I literally live by that place but I can't go there cause of reasons but that place is the BEST!!!
Where is it
there is no need to hide from the public. Everything is online nowadays. It is NOT hard to look it up.
Chris, I found u whilst searching for mac reformatting video, but was captivated by this video. Thanks man. I want to visit this place, please tell me more. What did u film this on good details too.
The best way to deal with people who think they can stop people from exploring river beds that are public access, even if they are dry, just need to contact local law enforcement to let them know you're going into an area and that you will check in with them when you leave. Let them know of threats of being shot so if you end up not making it out, the landowner can spend the rest of their life in prison.
Rick Davis Are you crazy?!
@@eu2voce23 😂
I think you're 100% right piss on what these jackasses think
If you see trash, please pick it up. Let’s keep my Texas beautiful!
The fossil period...LOL.
geologically I don't remember a fossil period haha
Yea, I caught that too. Lol
Always wanted to go but that 7 mile hike though
I liked and subscribed. Would appreciate info on where to start hiking and how to get there. thanks
Wow, it dates back to the "Fossil period"? Impressive. ;)
You'll forgive me for being a little confused, but the Blanco River doesn't go through Austin, TX. So ... what are you talking about?
Right that san marcos
It's in blanco
He’s just trying to through you off from the real location.
Please send me directions for this hike. Can't wait. It's gorgeous and I'm looking forward to a hike that makes you earn the views.
I liked and subscribed brother thanks for video.
To all our fellow hikers. I spent a good portion of the day talking with Blanco Sheriff Department and the Commissioner of transportation in Blanco Precinct 4 - His number in case you want to call is 830-385-4195. This is in regards to parking. As many of you know the 2nd water crossing on CR 407 ( Chimney Valley road in Blanco ) is the only legal way to access the Narrows. Two points I'm going to address. The Sheriff did agree that navigating down the river bed is Legal. He was however a little uncertain as to the definition of what is considered a riverbed. This definition is easy to find and is paraphrased by Texas Depart of Parks and Wildlife "The Texas Supreme Court has stated that the bed of a stream is "that portion of its soil which is alternately covered and left bare as there may be an increase or diminution in the supply of water, and which is adequate to contain it at its average and mean stage during an entire year, without reference to the extra freshets of the winter or spring or the extreme droughts of the summer or autumn.5" Not clear? Again, the Texas Supreme Court: The streambed is that land between the "gradient boundary" on each bank. The gradient boundary is defined as "a gradient of the flowing water in the stream, and is located midway between the lower level of the flowing water that just reaches the cut bank and the higher level of it that just does not overtop the cut bank.6" Clear as mud? Blame it on those civil judges. "" Ok so navigation is legal. Now parking is a different story. The land owners are doing everything in there power to keep citizens from using this land. They have persuaded our local county to have all of Chimney Valley Road designated as no parking. There are a few options. I would need to call the commissioner listed above to ask about parking on CR 165. This adds another two miles to the hike each way, or just have someone drop you off at the 2nd water crossing on Chimney Valley Road. The last fight the landowners made was in May 2015. Because our politicians are corrupt and coward down to freedom stealing tree huggers, we can not camp in the riverbed either. We can thank our representatives Rep. Jason Isaac [R] Sen. Donna Campbell [R] for being paid off to support HB 3618. HB 3618 prohibits any campfires or camping in the Blanco River bed. I would like to have a large group of us hike to the narrows by car pooling, and let the neighbors know they can use their money and political might, but they will not keep us from accessing the Narrows- At least for now!
+Matt Bailey thank you i will be going back this summer. be safe. take a 4 wheel drive;)
Matt MTCH You sir are a lier. But since i you have no idea where to start you will be arrested at a completely wrong location. Texas law allows that "navigable waterways" May be used by the public. They certainly excludes a dry creekbed. Any assess id clearly marked no trespassing which is how you will be treated. Texas does not like trespassing.
The asshole who posted this either copied it from somewhere else or was completely lost as he is miles away.
This is all private land owned by several people so don't try it. Assholes likes you people have trashed Barton Springs, Blue Hole and Hamilton Pool. Go back to CA and swim in your cold ocean. You are not wanted and not welcome here.
typical trump supporter bs lol claiming land as theirs lmao "this chunk of planet earth is mine bc i rightfully stole it". get used to seeing other humans exploring "your" chunk of earth.
Brandy Hernandez Texas Parks and Wildlife has absolutely nothing to do with this which would be the first thing any Ranger would tell you so I'll sure call BULLSHIT on that one. Try again-somewhere else.
D. Mark Detrixhe Just recently showed this place to a couple friends last weekend and they loved it!
Traveling for a year and this is definitely something I wanna check out. Do you know where this is? Here it's a long hike
So glad you didn't fall. Please tell me someone knew you were out there
I've wanted to go to this place for a while but I'm not sure how to get there. Any way you can help me out?
I've done this trip and can tell you it is VERY difficult. It's a 14 mile hike in and out. No you cant camp. You can only hike during drought which means TEXAS HOT. Pack lots of water. Pack food. Start the journey at sunrise. You will need all day to get in and out. If not, you'll be hiking at night. No cell service out there so dont get hurt. The riverbed is rocky and slow going. If you're not prepared or out of shape, this trip can kill you.
I live in austin and i would love to go
The Blanco is down by me I live in buda, right? is this near san marcos?
I am very fortunate to have been able to spend my childhood swimming in those holes back when family members worked for land owners but have not gone back since i heard that the parents passed away and their children took over the property have locked up access to it. So now im just fortunate enough to own property down the road from there hope one day i can show my kids where i spent my childhood but not wanting to get shot at or shot trying to access it considering that from what im told as a land owner liveing next to river is that people r allowed to be in river just fine but the second they step onto land then they r trasspassing which from this video he was above the waterway. Not wanting to start an arguement just saying wht i saw.
For scouts I went camping right up that hill
Beautiful
Chris brian where were y'all at? I wanna go check it out now!!!
r camping and fishing allowed?
If your down for a river trip I will take you to a very nice place. Only you have to ready to hike. No trails.
dope!
I just subscribed and liked please let me know how I can find this amazing place, I am currently located on San Antonio, Texas
Sooo beautiful.
Can I get the location and best route to go... Thank you.
How do I get there??
I liked the video I would like to know how to get to and complete the hike to the Narrows
bro how do i get here? from san marcos?
Hey Chris would love some more info on this.
looks amazing! Would love to go there!
Cool vid... I've been wanting to check this place out forever... I live in the area... Any advice on getting to it?
+Earth Tribe travel legally and enter riverbed legally. dont go in winter. watch out for poison ivy?
public entrance is at both Valley View Rd and County Road 407. You decide which way you want to enter, and stay on the riverbed.
Can I get details messaged? Last weeks In the states and really want to go
Where is this?? I’m in Abilene TX, I wanna go here
You cant lol, it’s watched very carefully by the Hays County Sheriffs Department. What this dude did is rare, they are out all day looking for people on the banks because the owners use full extent of the law to prosecute anyone on their property, I go to Texas State and so many people have been caught trying to sneak onto the property.. it’s sad really but it’s one of the most beautiful places in Texas: plus there is no parking lots, no real road or trail really, and lots of eyes watching the area
@@jramos121198 stay in riverbed and you should be fine. Land owners don't own the river beds.
This was my backyard in Mexico 🇲🇽 no travel needed
Where is this??
How do I get there! I tried today but didn’t know how to get around all the private roads.
It's on all trails.
You have to hike in and out on the river bed. The banks are trespassing.
14 miles overall.
Half of it is pretty rough.
Hi Chris, those dinosaur fish are spotted gar...they are safe to swim with, I was actually taking photos underwater in the narrows last weekend...feel free to check my Instagram out scottbauer79 to see underwater photos of these types of gar
Id like to know where it is
access point info please

Can I get directions brother?
Bro where at ??
I absolutely love The Narrows. My brother, while attending SWTSU, took me here while I was in High School. Most incredible place ever! I'm moving into the area and will be visiting it again soon Please visit but respect it. Take only photos and leave only footprints... God bless Texas!
Please and thank you. Not sure how to get messages tho.
Those are called needlenose gar they're a cousin to the bigger alligator gar
hey Chris! I am visiting there next weekend and would love to know how to get there! Thanks!
P.S: I liked and subscribed.
Is this place on private property?
Sort of. But not really. Land owners there act like they think they own it...but they can't under Texas law.
Yeah that’s not in Austin. Probably about an hour from Austin.
Here's the deal with the Narrows: It is VERY difficult to get to. Because it is difficult to get to it has kept it more pristine than other places that are easy to get to. Think about what the Comal River, Hamilton Pool, and Jacobs Well have become. Imagine you go through all the trouble of climbing Mt. Everest just to find hordes of tourists waddling of a bus. It ruins it. Im not trying to be elitist, but if you are the type of person to research the legal ways to access this spot, search maps and satellite photos, ask questions with the sheriffs office, find a shuttle, be smart enough to take water, prepare for and make a 14 mile hike...you are less likely to be the type of person that trashes beautiful places. There are places that are much easier to get to. There are a hell of a lot more places to drink beer than there are places as special as the narrows, which is why it breaks the hearts of people that do make the difficult trip see places like this disrespected. If you are the type of person that enjoys the payoff of getting somewhere that is not easy to get to then by all means, enjoy the narrows, for it well worth the pain to get to it. If you are unable or make this trip the difficult/only way, I might suggest some of the Texas' many other amazing natural spots.
Made this trip 20 yrs back. Wasn't as difficult then. Still not easy even then tho. Thanks for the good message.
Those fish are spotted gar, I have alot of photos of them here at instagram.com/scottbauer79 if you want a better idea of what the are
Hi, I'm planning a trip to here this month. I liked and subscribed, could you tell me how to access this place? The best directions I got so far is to start from the 2nd crossing at CR407 but which way to I start hiking?
Cheers!
Masimore you will just get arrested
someones salty that others found out about this place. I'll spread the word and show all my friends this place so that way they can show theirs and so on : )
I have been trying to find out the best way to get the narrows! Would love to know how you got there and any tips you might have!

Its technically in blanco texas
Hey man I have always dreamed of seeing this place and Id love to find out where it is
Did you hike there or were you given access? I've been wanting to go here for a while!
+Ryan i was given access by being american and being a resident of the state.
+Chris Brian yeah thats false. its located in private land. being a resident of the state doesnt get you there
Why's that Ryan?
Okay liked, subscribed. Looking forward to directions. :)
This dude must not be from texas at all. How do you not know the answer to any of the questions he's asking himself, and if your on the cliffs your on private property. He must be a spoiled rich kid related to the landowners.
Just hit the like and subscribed help a brother out I’ve been dying to go there
Thanks for the reply Chris.... Yeh I've found that as long as I'm in the riverbed I'm good to hike down it (despite intimidation to believe otherwise) What low water x ng did you enter at? Bout how far a hike was it?
Liked and subscribed send me the location I will rightfully keep this place a secret as a hidden gem 💎
Please send me this location. I love hiking and would love to go there.

Sarah by chance did you adventure through this place I believe called narrows and if so how do you reach this location I'm very interested in hiking there
Google map search "The Narrows, Wimberley, TX". It is NOT hard to find at all. The difficulty and the challenge is hiking there. Terrain difficulty AND legal issues unless you hike the legal way on the river bed the whole way.

Stop the madness was paraphrased in text just after you said your going to shoot someone for navigation of a legal waterway. It's bad enough you guys have tried everything in your power to keep Americans from accessing what is rightfully ours to access, but now your willing to threaten hikers with their lives. Your madness does not in the least persuade me, in fact it excites me more to hike the riverbed.
Matt Bailey just shoot back

I was in Blanco this past weekend looking for The Narrows. The beauty of this location would bring me closer to God. Please, assist me Chris Brian!
This location is unfortunately private property and so if you were thinking about visiting this location I'm sorry but this location isn't for the public 🤷
All navigable waterways in Texas are public. As long as you don't.leave the river bed it is completely legal to be there.
It's funny how this place has drawn such attention and lure when it's fairly unimpressive compared to slot canyons in Utah and surrounding areas. I guess it could be an Austin rite of passage. Save yourself a logistical nightmare and travel to where the big boys venture. #utah
It's not...most don't care and the thing isn't even in Austin or close to it. Its closest to the town of Wimberly. I get the sense that all the attention the Narrows in Wimberly is due to the economic refugees from California get off on this.
Yea, but the areas in Utah have become saturated with trashy people playing loud music all the time. Look at the parking lots in Moab at night, full of drunk twentysomethings blaring crappy music having no idea they have even left their dormitories.
You realize my dad Alan Logan Craft owns is this place. If he caught you, you could of gone to jail
Hello. My name is Michael hunt. I'm trying to get my family orientated about the outdoors. Any chance your father would allow another father to take his kids out to see them.
This kind of beauty shouldn’t be owned by one person! It should be free for all people to observe!

Hey Mark,
Next time you reply to a comment.. they now have a thing called spell check. Try it out. You will still sound ignorant, but maybe your words would be spelled correctly. You are allowed to enter the Dry Blanco off Chimney Valley road. You might want to call the local sheriff to confirm. Your scare tactics will not work.

Sputnik Texans take their property rights very seriously! You won't be able to troll the internet if you try trespassing there. We shoot first and ask questions later. Try the Guadalupe River - it's more your style.
I agree Mark. I've never been there. It looks amazing and I'm quite sure b/c it is PRIVATE! I'm so sick of every generation born after 1971! No respect whatsoever.
