Watched your video about 6 times before i pulled the trigger on my '98 A8, (only 85k miles, garaged, great condition) also my first european vehicle, she's by far the nicest vehicle I've ever owned, thanks for the detailed review! as you said there is very little about this car on youtube. now i just need to swap out the armrests and get some jag tray tables!
@@Coldwallbar The D2 is notorious for transmission issues. Had to replace mine three times in 10 years of ownership. Fortunately, it was warrantied the second time. It's supposedly a "closed" system without need for replacing the transmission fluid but I highly recommend doing so on any car with more than 75,000 miles on it. This model is also prone to eat up ignition coils, but so do the newer models. Maintenance is not for the faint of heart - it's part of Audi ownership. Find a good independent shop that you can trust which knows these cars and you'll be okay. Personally, I find the quality of the build on these D2's to be superior to newer Audi's. Better leather seats and vinyl parts. Last but not least, make sure the timing belt has been changed on any car with higher mileage. Do the water pump at the same time since the engine is already broken down for the timing belt job.
I have a 2003 A8 L Quattro 4.2 in mint condition. Its silver with black leather and is garage kept. It is the executive class. I ABSOLUTELY love this car. My first Audi was a 2001 A6 Quattro 4.2 and I fell in love with Audi from that car.
Bringing my 1998 A8 out from storage. Was sitting for 5 years. Looks as good as this one. Installing coil overs and 19 inch RS4 five spoke rims on her. Should be done in a month. Can’t wait.
I just bought a 2003 A8-L. Dark Champagne In Color. Has 180,000 (One Owner) Miles. Just Had To Put New Front Brake Pads On. And I Want To Install A New Exhaust System As Well. I'm Planning On Keeping This For Awhile. I Love It.
Thanks for the vudeo man. This car has been on my dream car list since 6th grade and im hoping that ill have one oneday.. its. So clean and its such a shame seeing people hoon it like they do. Its such a classy car
Sorry for typo on earlier post. My D2 is identical to yours BUT with black interior which is in nearly mint condition. I also have a black cherry 2008 D3 with the sport package so it has the same rims as your D2. Currently looking to buy a set for the D2 because they look great on yours. My D2 was garaged for last three years and it needed catalytic converters when stored and given you rarely see D2s anymore I have the car in the shop having them installed today. Looking forward to getting this future classic back on the road.
Finally finished mine. Had to refinish rear bumper and install new electric antenna. Installed 19inch RS4 wheels and new performance tires to complement the H&R coil overs. Painted calipers yellow and applied Audi logo decals. Will load up a video soon.
@@RGRChristian So I read that you sold the D2. Could you share why? I have a D3 and the only reason I'm keeping the D2 is that I've missed out on the appreciation some other cars I sold for pretty much nothing (Datsun 280Z, 87' M5 clone with 3 piece BBS rims, etc.). I was hoping the D2's would start appreciating but given the difficulty with parts and that darn ZF tranny I'm having my doubts. Put $5k into maintenance and upgrades last year and doubtful I'll even break even if I sell her anytime soon. Thoughts?
Looking at getting a 98 D2 A8 4.2 at the moment. Had both a D2 A8 and S8 at work just a few days ago talking to a coworker about them saying it would be nice owning one because they are a really great car.
The liner is sway, the issue is that it's glued to a type of sponge. In my case that sponge rotted away. I had it replaced with alcantera of a similar color...looks grate in comparison
Very clean, looks mint! Do you still have it? I have a 2000 A8 4.2 and I love this car. It gets looks, ppl not sure what to think! Great bargain for people wanting luxury comfort and power. Great vid.
Hi. The exhaust. What did you do to it :)?? Im looking for a car like this and want it to make more sound than original but not to much. I like the darker sound that your car make, only when you stomp the gas.
The transmission on mine was rebuilt by the previous owner. From the parts list, that came with my car, it seems like your best option is to rebuild it with stronger aftermarket components. The only way I can think of to save money is just doing it yourself, good luck mate.
I owned it for years, drove it everyday. Never gave me an issue beyond one time needing an ABS module. There is a illusion out there that all old luxury cars are impossible to keep up. That is a lie, do your research, find that nice example and you'll be fine. I must say that some cars are indeed nearly impossible to keep on the road when old.

@@christianramos309 any maintenance I should do if I pick one up?
@@Coldwallbar I would recommend the usual, oil changes, filters and such. Good idea to pick a trans go valve for these.

Good review! One mention though, the quattro system on this car is not haldex based, but torsen based.

Little questing: would you tint the back windows ?
Btw what is the color code. I'm planning to repaint my a8
Has this car given you any serious problems I've heard Audi vehicle have lots of problems?
Btw beautiful car👍👍
Torsen, not Haldex
Haldex is used on wonky cars with transversal engine.
Looking good!!
I have the same model.. it’s just the transmission is out.. and it costs a grip to get it taken care of.. any ideas?

How much did it cost you? I have an Audi and want to keep it well past 200k and would love to convert it to manual when the auto fails
Where are the fuses?
Whats the wheel all size please?
How much for the car ?
