It's still MY amp after nearly 20 yrs. Never was too taken with the gain channel but the room to maneuver in the clean channel using overdrive/distortion and modulation pedals with delays through the effects loop gets spectacular results. I'd sooner put a distortion pedal through the clean section than use the gain. Ok for chunky blues riffs I suppose. (Exeption. My guitar of choice is a fat strat but I tried an Ibanez through the gain channel with more treble/bass and cut the middle back and got better results.) I got a modern Blackstar ID:Core and played around with it's many options but the "modern" speakers just couldn't hold a candle to the Ultimate Chorus' headroom. And yup. The chorus is veeery nice. She soars. 👍
Nice Demo, I may be buying one of this week. Wanted to ask what you thought of the reverb tank on this one ? Can you get that drippy spring reverb sound ? The chorus sounds nice and and when the rate and depth are maxed out it can sound like a Lesley, which is pretty cool, thanks Steve
Nice sound test. Found one at €200, didn’t buy yet because I own a Mustang GT100. I play strat blues.. what do you think it’s best between the two? Thanks
I own one of these but it’s in poor condition and the dirty channel’s EQs are scratchy and don’t work and the chorus part is broken, but the clean is godly
@@gizmoal01 easier said then done🤣 hard to justify repairing when I can get a replacement for a couple hundred. Mine was awesome in the clean. Second channel nothing but problems. Now bothy I puts need replacing. Nobody around me messes with ss amps. This amp with upgraded speakers did sound great I will say
The problem is that it’s solid state vs. tube, however I have one of these gems and it still sounds amazing. The cleans are so crisp and the stereo chorus is incredible. Gain channel is absolute shit, but I never use it anyway.
Hmmm... I think the word alternative *could* be used, depending on what you're wanting to accomplish... As a standalone amp, the Fender Ult.Ch. has a heavier possibility of Distortion. I don't think the Roland JC120's Distortion could ever get into the "metal" category...but it sure can accomplish some excellent beefy-rhythm and sweet-sounding subtle-Blues tones. :) It seems like the Ult.Ch.'s Reverb is brighter/twangier, where the JC120's Reverb is a bit more mellow, comparatively. The JC120 also has that crazy-amazing VIB. possibility!! ...the Ult.Ch. does not include that effect. :( ...if you were using a pedalboard to push either amp, you could probably spend an hour dialing in what you're looking for--from either of those amps. But again, considering the amp features alone, I'd have to conclude that they are Not plug-and-play identical. Hope my rambling helps!! :)

thx Steve! ...oh yes, the spring verb is quite drippy :)
I have the little brother, the Princeton chorus, and it has the identical weird high treble content in the gain settings
Does this sound different than than Princeton Stereo chorus amp? Cool video

Whoa awesome amplifier
Sure is!
Very nice!
Thanks Mariano :) ...just boppin' around for fun!

RHD it'd be worth looking up an Amp Repair nearby to get your dirt-channel working again! #ThatCleanThough :)
Look at the tone caps inside. Check for loose or broken solder joints. Very common with this amp
I have the exact same issue. Awesome clean, second channel nothing but issues. Also the inputs are all crap and need upgrading

take off the knobs and spray contact cleaner on them to clean eqs
thinking of buying one of these to run in stereo but it doesn’t really seem to have that nice rounded fender clean sound

nice amp
Suena hermoso
thank you my friend :)
what footswitch did you use?
Found one for $200 and after this video I might grab it.
Definitely! ...and thanks for watching :)
Just found a 360 watt version for 100!! It just has a broke input jack
Is this a good alternative to the roland jc120/jc40?
