Jan Kolbe I was thinking of a Dervish Sama, which can be used as a dancing board, but I'm still deciding on this one, or the Dervish. I love going down hills, and cruising but I really want to take up dancing, and the board I have at the moment isn't great for hills, nor dancing. (It's too small and it speed wobbles) So I really don't know :|
I recently purchased the Gravity 43 drop kick which is a really nice all around board. Your requirements are pretty versatile as a dancer tends to be more of a flex board while a downhill board is more stiff. The 43 drop kick might be a good choice to combine all of those, as it's a medium flex board which has some space to dance on while being dropped which is nice for commuting. It also has a kicktail for tricks and when you're standing closer to the trucks it gets a lot less flexy which is nice for higher speeds. You might wanna check that out. I wanted to get into dancing and freestyle tricks while loving the feel of a pintail and that board has been a lot of fun in the last weeks for me :)

Aleix has a world cup victory to his name. If he wants to skate in flops, my guess is he knows what he's doing. That said, you aren't going to go out and do this just because you saw it here, and I sure as hell am not, my guess is no one else is either. Skate for fun and don't take this stuff so seriously, sometimes you gotta go outside the box.
On the one hand you're absolutely right.. but on the other there are many rookies seeing this.. they'll don't know Aleix professionality and see how easy he's going with flip flop's.. I'm talking about the example he's giving.. and in my oppinion that's not the best. But now let's share some love!
Der LLOYD jezus if rookies are going out longboarding barefooted or in flipflops and get hurt, its their own fault Aleix isnt setting an example in any way...
Jesus Christ LLOYD you fucking dope... come on. I'm sure you're real fun at parties. Come on kid; be impresed. Don't worry about what "example" he's setting, please tell me you're not a grown ass man.
Always good to have both Jul. You can never do everything you can do on a skateboard on a longboard and you can never do everything you do on a longboard on a skateboard. So while it's all skating, MOST of us need more than one board to accomplish all of the different sorts of riding we want to do. But having a versatile quiver is a good thing not a bad thing! Have fun on that skate deck and maybe have a look at one of the decks from us over here at Original Skateboards next time around : )
I am a loyal riviera rider since I support local brands who have treated me well, but I have to give you credit because this guy is a major asset to your team and the guy can really skate like crazy.... even in flip flops.
Sure do. Depends on how you order them. One thing to remember is that we have a pretty in depth tutorial on assembly. While you can always choose assembled or not from Original, as a beginner its a great idea to learn your setup and whats important (as far as hardware etc) by assembling your deck first time around!
Alright, that's all I needed to know! Thank you so much for all the help. Just ordered a Pintail 40! I hope it's good for a beginner like me. And yeah, I'm not going to be doing huge hills down hill or anything, just for cruising around with the occasional hill.
A Pintail sounds like it would be great for you! They come in 4 different sizes depending on your height. The Pintail 37 and 40 will be a bit easier for carving, and the 43 and 46 will be a bit more stable for cruising or smaller hills. You may also want to check out the Derringer 28 which is a mini longboard and a great carving board! -Lindsay
If you like big boards it was a great move. As a smaller rider you may have trouble turning many boards on the longer side, the Pintail 46 will NOT be one of those. Assuming you got the super wide S10 Original trucks on there you will be fully able to carve and control the deck (which is pretty awesome for someone your size, on a 46 inch long deck). This has a lot to do with the trucks and less to do with the board, BUT, it is a really great big board / big carving setup for a small rider.
The number next to the name on Original boards stands for the number of inches (sort of). Sometimes we have a board like the Arbiter 36 that is actually 36.9 inches long. But it is always the length of the board in inches (roughly). So! The Pintail 37 is 6 inches shorter (thats a lot) than the Pintail 43 and 3 inches shorter (a good bit) than the Pintail 40. Also, Pintail 37 and Pintail 43 will be stiffer based on wheelbase than the Pintail 40, so if you want flex, go with the Pintail 40.
I like this video a lot, good scenery, variety, and amazing riding. I never felt bored. The only thing that I thought was strange was how he was wearing flip flops... But that did not affect him in the least, original has done it again.
This board is simply amazing for it's price. I got the big 46 a little over a month ago and I have been turning down car rides from friends just to go places on my pintail. Words are useless in trying to express how nimble this big boy is. It's smooth, fast, and sometimes feels like I'm carving pavement like snow. If you've been wanting a cruiser, I can't really recommend this board enough. I love it.
the Pintail 40 would be a great board for you to start on. It's easy to push with since it's low and stable, and is meant for cruising and carving. The S8 trucks will help you learn how to carve easily because they are spring loaded and initiate carves way easier than a bushing truck. -Lindsay
Hmm, good question. I feel like there are a lot of them though there probably arent a ton coming out of the performance / high speed crews. The thing is that for MOST people a pintail (like the Pintail 46 from Original in this vid) with a good setup of carving trucks is a really awesome option. That said if you are attacking huge hills at 45mph, you want a different setup. Since that fast stuff is really what a lot of the best riders are doing it gets a lot of film attention.
Aleix was able to ride with out sandals because, well, he is Aleix, and it's Spain. Spain makes your longboarding better, even spanish sandals improve skill. Paris + Pintails is a great match, I rode Aleix's deck and had a lot of fun on it. Snag a low duro bushing and its a lot of fun on the flats.
As someone who enjoys living as much in their flip-flops as possible, Aleix is my hero! I bought a pair of shoes just for skating. They're not going to get much use for that now though. A big pintail and flip flops, that pretty much screams summer to me.
The purple Fat Frees are great for learning how to slide. They have a smaller contact patch, rounded lips, and they're pre-broken in for you. This all makes learning how to slide super easy. Enjoy your board! -Lindsay
Sounds like a Pintail would be a great board for you, assuming that you are focused more on carving than on sliding. Original Pintail (probably the Pintail 40 for someone your size!) are absolutely amazing carvers, particularly with Original trucks. That being said they are not great for holding out big slides. Original trucks let you carve tighter, and actually make sliding initiation (the start of the slide easier) but you give up stability and the ability to hold long slides.
Hey Retro, That form of the board (no long tail) is not available for sale, BUT you can make one, just cut the tail off! Thats why the rider (Aleix) did in this video, he cut the tail off with a saw. You can do the same : )
Both boards ride very similarly. However, the Pintail 43 is compatible with S8 and S10 trucks, and the Pintail 46 is only compatible with the S10 trucks. If you want to make more aggressive carves then you may want to go with the Pintail 43 with S8 trucks. Also, he just chopped off the tail and also re-drilled the holes for a different wheelbase just to fool around. -Lindsay
Hey! The Pintail 37 is made with 7 plys of maple, so at 120 lbs it's on the stiffer side of the spectrum. It's a stable deck that helps keep you controlled and is great for cruising. Put some Original spring loaded trucks and now you have an awesome cruising AND carving deck. -Lindsay
Hey Luke! The Pintail 37 is a ton of fun to rip around on! This deck is meant for cruising and carving purposes. I like to ride it with S8 trucks for a surfy feel. I also use Orangatang 4President wheels with it for carving purposes, and they slide nicely when I want them to. This board can definitely handle some smaller hills, dancing, some slides, and you can easily get off curbs since it has a longer tail. Let us know what you think once you ride it, I think you're going to love it :) -Lindsa
Depends on your weight really, to me I usually go with black springs any time I am aiming for a surfey feel. A surfboard really has zero return to center, so even the black springs have plenty more than that. In surfing that power out of the turns all comes from your weight and the directional hold of your fins, on the Pintail it will come from the flex of the board, the return to center of the trucks and then your weight and the direction of your board.
Hey fog, I think you have a couple options. The thing to remember is that most of the time the most effective way to generate stability is on a stiffer board. To compensate for the stiffness and keep the board agile you can then jump to a shorter wheelbase one something like the baffle 37 or Arbiter 36 kt. That said you could also check the drop freeride 41. If you DO want a flexy board the Apex 37 or Pintail 40 could be a good fit there.
Sure thing, we'd be happy to help! At your height and weight we have lots of decks that would suite your size well. Is there a specific style of riding you're interested in? This will help us narrow down all of the choices to something that will be good for you! -Lindsay
I love how a hairy dude having fun and shredding a pintail has more views than people bombing hills and holding out crazy long slides. Just makes me happy :)
Hey Hunter, As far as the stuff from us here at Original Skateboards is concerned that Pintail 43 would certainly work. It is going to be much more focused on carving (thats really where it kills it) and cruising than anything related to higher speeds, hills and sliding. That said, you could certainly look at the Freeride 41 (not much more expensive and WAY better for high speeds and sliding) or the Drop Freeride 41. Both cruise well, and slide great, but just aren't as carving focused.
A good friend of mine is 6'4 and loves the heck out of the Pintail 46. Which is a coincidence as Aleix is actually riding that board in this video (though he chopped the tail off, for what reason I am not totally sure haha) If you want to go with great carving and cruising / flatland / small hill performance I honestly would check out the S8 trucks. If you want more stability but less slow speed maneuverability a traditional truck like a Paris, Caliber or Bear would help you more w/ bomb runs
You can cut the tail off any board you like, so long as you don't cut off a set of mounting brackets and forget to redrill them haha A lot of people do it because there is not a whole lot of difference between a chopped pintail cruiser and a legit topmount. While the Arbiter has some more concave and some features a chopped Pin won't have, if you HAVE a Pintail and a saw and want to have something more DH specific, its an awful lot cheaper to chop it than to but a new deck : )
If you're just starting out you may want to get something that's a bit more stable like a cruiser board. The Pintail series are easy to learn on and are meant for cruising and carving purposes. -Lindsay
Thanks for the godo word Dread, There are a lot of people out there making longboarding look fun... probably because it is haha As a bigger guy just cruising around, the Original Pintail 46 is an awesome option. Its got a big standing platform, that's stiffer to support larger riders, but can be super nimble if you are doing mostly flatland cruising / carving (go with Original S10 trucks in that case). More / bigger hills? Swap trucks for Calibers or maybe check out the Drop Freeride 44.
Well, it will be a LONG board but, yes, you can absolutely rock the Pintail 40. My suggestion would be to go on the Pintail 37 just because you are on the smaller side but the thing is that these pintails are SUPER maneuverable so even as a smaller rider you will be able to turn it easily. That is not always the case, but for Original Pintails, turning is the easy part haha
The Pintail 43 would definitely be a great board for starting out and is perfect for cruising. It will easily support you and allow you to ride with a wider stance. I suggest sticking with the S8 trucks for a surfy carve, but using the white heavy tension springs for more stability. -Lindsay
Hey Chave, First off, we are stoked to get someone new on a board even if it isn't one of ours. So no worries there haha Of course there is a difference between the cheapo stuff and what we are doing but the main thing we would rather see you do is build on what you have, build out your quiver, and add functionalit by adding other boards. If you have an Atom that's a pintail, getting an Original Pintail wouldnt be that different, we would rather see you get a Freeride 41 etc in that case : )
Sounds like an ideal match for a Pintail 43 or Pintail 46 to me. Both are seriously well tuned for carving and really stand out from the competition as far as carving is concerned imo. That said if you want to slide and do a little more serious bombing / downill I would really look at the Drop Freeride 41. The drop will give you enough leverage to really carve the board but it initiates a lot easier than a pintial for learning to slide. Plus its cheap ($99), so a good starter choice.
Yah, I was looking at the Apex 40 board from one of your other videos, the Double Concave Diamond is my favorite, I'm going to look into those boards you mentioned. I appreciate you're feedback SO THANKS!!!! no ones ever helped me out with anything longboarding because everyone i talk to about it just tells me to get a skateboard so this means a lot to hear from a pros perspective
Hi! For your size, I'd go with the Pintail 40 with S8 trucks. It's a good length for your height and is made with 7 plys of maple, so it will provide you with the right amount of stability for cruising, and the spring loaded trucks will allow you to carve easily. -Lindsay
Yes to NJ haha This was filmed in Barcelona, a city in which we are lucky enough to have many friends. Riding with friends is great, traveling to ride with friends might be the only thing better.
Propelling your self forward on your board without pushing is called "Pumping" some boards are better for pumping than others but it has a lot to do with practicing / mastering the technique, and having a good board / truck combination to make it happen.
Right on, Well I think really the only tough part here is getting it to you under that 150 euro max. Usually shipping from here to the EU costs about $60USD (roughyl 45 euros). So 30% of what you have is gone to shipping. One thing you could do is check out the Arbiter 36 deck. It ships for free (to Belgium also) and gets there in 3 to 5 days. Its $99USD or roughly 75EUR. That would leave you with 75 EUR to buy trucks and wheels. BUT thats just one solution : )
It was an Original Skateboards Pintail 46 with the tail chopped off, probably ended up being 38 or 40 inches long, but thats just a guess as to the ending length.
Hmm, two for one eh? Don't know if we have ever had a question like that before haha It depends on the type of riding you want to do. For pure carving and cruising, good slide initiation but very low stability for high speed downhill / high speed sliding, the Pintail 40 for you, and the Pintail 37 for your lady friend. More stability but less carving performance, the Drop Freeride 41 might be a good fit for you while the Freeride 38 would work well for her I think!
The Apex 40 Diamond Drop would be great for you if you're looking to slide. It's also super durable since it is made with 3 plys of maple, quad-axial fiber glass, and has carbon reinforcement bars. You can also add the PK Nose Guards to it which will enhance the kicks and also protect your board even more. -Lindsay

And my friends say Longboarding is stupid. It's not!
Sounds like you need to find some friends to ride with or convert your friends ! Thanks for the support! #golongboard
You need new friends.
haha extreme measures, possibly called for.
Idiots they are. Ilike both skatin and longboarding, I prefer longboarding tho the speed, bombing hills, and a much smoother ride
yes original.. show everyone that skating with flip flops is cool.. genius!
Douwe deboer your argument is invalid - now go and share the love!
Jesus Christ LLOYD you fucking dope... come on. I'm sure you're real fun at parties. Come on kid; be impresed. Don't worry about what "example" he's setting, please tell me you're not a grown ass man.
Got my pintail 43 today! I absolutely love it! Thank you all for the DVD and the stickers! Those will look good on my helmet.
Have fun on that skate deck and maybe have a look at one of the decks from us over here at Original Skateboards next time around : )
original, please make your longboards cheaper
you can't be serious
You have to pay for quality... They are like the *Rolls Royce* of downhill/freeride longboards.
Tamás Beviz a
Gh8-1-17august1
That would be nice but you are paying for quality
What trick was that at 0:54?
hellflip i guess
i know this comment is like 6 years old but he did an OLDSCHOOL KICKFLIP
I am a loyal riviera rider since I support local brands who have treated me well, but I have to give you credit because this guy is a major asset to your team and the guy can really skate like crazy.... even in flip flops.
Sure do. Depends on how you order them.
One thing to remember is that we have a pretty in depth tutorial on assembly.
While you can always choose assembled or not from Original, as a beginner its a great idea to learn your setup and whats important (as far as hardware etc) by assembling your deck first time around!
Im a huge fan of long boarding and your boards look fantastic and i love watching your vids to see different peoples styles of riding
-Lindsay
One of the sickest, free ride vids I have seen. Keep up the exceptional work sir !
You're sounding less like a business and more like a bunch of people trying to help fellow skaters now. Good stuff.
Here it is almost 6 years since I saw this video, and I still want this pintail.
Thank you! Ordered my Pintail 43 today!
I'm super excited to get on it!
I like this video a lot, good scenery, variety, and amazing riding. I never felt bored. The only thing that I thought was strange was how he was wearing flip flops... But that did not affect him in the least, original has done it again.
Aleix is rocking Otangs here but has recently swapped teams and I believe is now working with Seismic. Both great companies, both great wheels!
I could watch this a thousand times
Aleix was able to ride with out sandals because, well, he is Aleix, and it's Spain. Spain makes your longboarding better, even spanish sandals improve skill.
Paris + Pintails is a great match, I rode Aleix's deck and had a lot of fun on it. Snag a low duro bushing and its a lot of fun on the flats.
Haha, no problem fable. Thanks for the stoke, have fun out there!
He is riding in sandals deff respect !
Pintail 46 with Paris 180s and Otangs I believe!
Hey Retro,
That form of the board (no long tail) is not available for sale, BUT you can make one, just cut the tail off!
Hey Noah! Thanks for the feedback! Enjoy your new ride! -Lindsay
Hey fog,
I think you have a couple options.
Hey Hunter,
As far as the stuff from us here at Original Skateboards is concerned that Pintail 43 would certainly work.
This is so nostalgic cus I went exactly where this guy is skating for my last holiday like I recognise every building
A good friend of mine is 6'4 and loves the heck out of the Pintail 46. Which is a coincidence as Aleix is actually riding that board in this video (though he chopped the tail off, for what reason I am not totally sure haha)
If you want to go with great carving and cruising / flatland / small hill performance I honestly would check out the S8 trucks. If you want more stability but less slow speed maneuverability a traditional truck like a Paris, Caliber or Bear would help you more w/ bomb runs
You can cut the tail off any board you like, so long as you don't cut off a set of mounting brackets and forget to redrill them haha
A lot of people do it because there is not a whole lot of difference between a chopped pintail cruiser and a legit topmount.
While the Arbiter has some more concave and some features a chopped Pin won't have, if you HAVE a Pintail and a saw and want to have something more DH specific, its an awful lot cheaper to chop it than to but a new deck : )
Thanks for your input originalskateboards! :)
If you're just starting out you may want to get something that's a bit more stable like a cruiser board. The Pintail series are easy to learn on and are meant for cruising and carving purposes. -Lindsay
Thanks for the godo word Dread,
There are a lot of people out there making longboarding look fun... probably because it is haha
As a bigger guy just cruising around, the Original Pintail 46 is an awesome option.
-Lindsay
Hey Chave,
First off, we are stoked to get someone new on a board even if it isn't one of ours. So no worries there haha
Of course there is a difference between the cheapo stuff and what we are doing but the main thing we would rather see you do is build on what you have, build out your quiver, and add functionalit by adding other boards.
This is my favorite video ... Beautiful rider style
Hi! For your size, I'd go with the Pintail 40 with S8 trucks. It's a good length for your height and is made with 7 plys of maple, so it will provide you with the right amount of stability for cruising, and the spring loaded trucks will allow you to carve easily. -Lindsay
i love watching videos like this
Yes to NJ haha
This was filmed in Barcelona, a city in which we are lucky enough to have many friends.
Riding with friends is great, traveling to ride with friends might be the only thing better.
Hey original i'm new to this and this video was kinda what got me started. So thank you i'm enjoying it a lot!
Propelling your self forward on your board without pushing is called "Pumping" some boards are better for pumping than others but it has a lot to do with practicing / mastering the technique, and having a good board / truck combination to make it happen.
Right on,
Well I think really the only tough part here is getting it to you under that 150 euro max. BUT thats just one solution : )
that is an aboslute vibe, love it
It was an Original Skateboards Pintail 46 with the tail chopped off, probably ended up being 38 or 40 inches long, but thats just a guess as to the ending length.
Hmm, two for one eh? Don't know if we have ever had a question like that before haha
It depends on the type of riding you want to do.
-Lindsay
The part just before the end of the jumping and dancing really got me into it ;)
That's awesome Josh! Be sure to post back and let us know what you thought of it!
