Vin brought it up during pearl grabber, I think a decent amount of cynicism is fine. It keeps us from buying into every new thing that comes up. There just needs to be some balance, like when you feel you haven't taken any risks and tried something new because everything seems like it would be shit, then you probably should just try something new or take a break for a while.
I feel like "Emily is Away" is really only great if you actually found its story to be relatable, otherwise it's just a bit of a nothingburger with some admittedly pleasing aesthetics and sounds.
I think it's somewhat relatable on paper but at least to me it removes a lot of its relatability by sort of forcing actions / parts of the story on the player. The idea makes sense but in execution it ends up feeling underwhelming and unnatural as a result.
Oh boy, it was so good to see Emily Is Away after all these years. It was important game for me back then when I dealed with the same sort of Emilys and felt really insecure in general. Back then it was a tragic story with open end "what if I had played my cards differently?". Now, it is a tragic story about lack of selves and how insecurity circles around.
Emily is Away is a really great example of an indie game that pulls off something that most triple-A companies could not do, in a seemingly simple way. It really gets at the human experience of people who grew up during this time with computers and internet in an uncannily visceral way, as a lot of people ended up viewing the world through a lens of a computer screen and interacting with some of their best friends in this exact manner. I didn't realize there was a sequel!
@@MaTaMaDia Much worse ideas have been sold to triple A companies. I don't think they would've had to pay a fortune to publish Emily Is Away if they had the sense to try. We can now influence these companies through online discourse to attempt to do these kinds of things.

I have recently started to create some UA-cam videos to try to deal with the fact that I am not very happy with my life and trying to do something that makes me happy, and 2:14:17 really hit me hard. Learning from failure is cool but when it happens often it's very easy to give up on your dreams and on yourself. I did not expect to have feelings from a Vinny pack video where we usually just see shitshow games.
I like how Vinny called Rain (the protagonist of Lycanthorn) a guy even tho you can clearly see cleavage in the sprite, that's a certified Vinny moment right there
One of the games from the first Lizard Crate (the one about adopting a demon lizard baby during the apocalypse) had an androgynous protagonist with a female ex, and Vin/a good chunk of chat were referring to the character as “him”. The Steam (or itchio, I forget) page refers to them as a woman, but it’s not mentioned in game/I don’t think they were maliciously misgendering her/I didn’t want to start discourse in the chat, so I said nothing about it at the time.

I badly want Vinny to play A Short Hike, if he liked Pearl Grabber I think he'll find A Short Hike really satisfying. I got totally sucked into it collecting everything and exploring the island.
I think it’s the way that particular game was being captured. If you notice at the beginning he says it isn’t windowed but it isn’t full screen, and I think however the capture happened it added a delay on the recording side.
This is a super awesome way to compile a bunch of Indies, although obviously expensive to make happen, I can absolutely appreciate what the creators did here!

I wouldn't even play it not as a streamer. Vin's suggestion of it looking through a specific folder(one that comes with the game) is a better idea. I wouldn't trust a random indie title to scan through my PC and yoink what it finds onto a game.

Game jolt is one of those sorts of places where the good games are buried underneath _experiences_ that likely appeared on Sunday stream. And when one does find something good, nintendo swoops in and C&D’s it because usually it’s a good fan game mean while itch the reverse is true, even steam keys can be bought off of itch if a dev offers it. it’s the mileage in quality that I believe is why they are usually overlooked

Lycanthorn is a game I wish that would release on consoles but I feel like that would never happen, but still! I wish I could play it
