BMT Bluebird: New York's Best Subway Car

In 1939 the Brooklyn-Manhattan Transit Corporation introduced to New York what is arguably the best subway car ever made. It included such amenities as open gangways between cars, mohair upholstered seats, filtered air, and rubber sandwiched wheels for a quiet ride. Unfortunately politics and the government takeover of the BMT in 1940 ended the innovation.
