Enjoy a circuit around the airfield for a planned hangar landing, and watch as I find myself too high with full airbrakes extended, making a sideslip/forward slip necessary to lose height and land on the grass runway. Always remember to take into account the headwind component (wind was calm that day) as well as the airbrake effectiveness when turning final.

I loved flying the K 8 so much lighter than the K 13. We were discouraged from side slipping in instil we had more hours!
Beautiful mate!
Thank you so much, glad you liked it!
@@greatflyer_aviation :)
Slipped down from 1500m AGL with an ASK-21 :)
btw my flight teacher wasn't very amused...
Lol why weren't they amused?
That was a extremly short sideslip.
Thanks!
Stunning views. Keep the great content up mate!!
Thanks my friend, stay tuned!
Where was this video take? It looks amazing with all that greenery
Weston on the Green, Oxfordshire, UK.
Very nice video mate!! Like your vids!
Thanks mate! I'll be thrilled if you stay tuned for more ☺️✈️
I flew the k-8 with too much complacency while listening to Roxy Music. A gentle stall, slow speed, and overall good demeanor. Very different from the Austria.
A nice old glider indeed!
Amazing again
Thanks buddy!
Tiny slip. The pilot of Air Canada Flight 143 side slipped a Boeing 767.
It's funny because that was actually his first time too
Opa!
Where was this camera mounted?
Shoulder strap!
Hi I know absolutely nothing about gliding but I'm curious what this is. Was this just like a drift but for gliders apparently
A glider or sailplane is a powerless airplane, launched in the air by being towed by a powered airplane or, in this case, by winch! Check out my other gliding videos to get a better idea ✈️
@@greatflyer_aviation so what exactly is a sideslip landing?
@@feather9115 A sideslip can happen when you are coming in for a landing, but you are way too fast and high. The sideslip creates a lot of drag quickly, and enables you to lose speed and altitude in a short time. This is very important in gliding since you don't get a 2nd shot at landing because of the lack of motor. Missing the runway could be deadly.
Anyway I hope I have made a better job than the bot at explaining this :,)
@@bigbazar5226 That was a great explanation, thank you!
Nice bro
Thanks mate!
*forward slip
That term is not used in Europe.
@@greatflyer_aviation ..thank you... ONLY "Sideslip" should be used.
@@raymunro9894 There's no backward slip is there?
