    Looking at the Amazon reviews of the competition the price is only understandable if the Gitzo doesn't have the quality issues of the other products. The Manfrotto Pixi Evo looks like an awesome product but there are - for my taste - too many bad reviews.

      I know a few photographers/vloggers who go through a few Pixi tripods because they get such heavy daily use. It will be interesting to see how the Gitzo holds up to this kind of use as you could buy a good few Pixies for the price of the Gitzo.
      What I was most impressed with was the fact the legs can hold 25KG and the head 3KG. It’s a very neat little head that I hope they sell separately at some stage

    Totally buying one. I hear it includes two $100 bills in the box and a $30 mail-in rebate.

    I have a Gitzo tripod and monopod, both carbon fiber, but I have trouble understanding what the point is of carbon fiber legs on a tripod this small.

    Any tutorial for removing the ball head? I’ve followed the manual, but the screw is very hard to remove.

    • @Photogearnews
      @Photogearnews  5 років тому

      Sorry Stanley! No such luck. She removed it a demo before we filmed the video and I remember it being quite hard to remove despite the fact that she has obviously done it a few times during the show. Maybe drop Gitzo/Manfrotto and message on Twitter or Facebook and see if they can suggest anything.

      @@Photogearnews I had to return it to B&H because I thought I got a defective copy. The ball head was way to hard to remove. ( I could not remove it at all). The overall build quality is nice thou

    I got one 3weeks ago from Adorama. This tiny one hold GH5 with Leica 100-200mm lens very stable for filming. You pay what you get!

      Cerritosmike would it be able to hold something like Nikon D850 + 70-200mm lens ?

    • @dalethorn2
      @dalethorn2 5 років тому

      At the low height yes, but higher up the lens could tip it over unless you add a weight to balance.

    With the 25KG payload on the legs only, this would be awesome for a low angle tripod for when you don't want to carry something huge. Could be really nice for low angle wildlife photography!

    • @Photogearnews
      @Photogearnews  6 років тому

      Yup! Apparently, unofficially, it broke at 40kg when tested! I guess it comes down to balance more than payload

      Indeed, I'm thinking this could be good fun with a fluid gimbal on top + a longer lens - Awesome for travelling!

    They can stick that where the sun don't shine. 199 do they think we get paid in gold.

      hahahaha!
      199 and it is with a crappy head for compact cameras - do they not realised that compact cameras are not even worth the price of the tripod? this product is so crazy stupid that i must get two to show everyone!

      Photogearnews - good point! but on a serious note, i am using sunwayfoto's mini tripod. so good, and strong enough for my a7Riii with a 100-400 GM lens mounted on it.

    • @Photogearnews
      @Photogearnews  6 років тому +1

      The Gitzo is expensive, no doubt... but those wee legs can hold 25KG! The head is pretty neat for its size 3KG and very small. I’d contemplate one of those for a standard travel tripod.
      It’s like Leica - excellently made, but you pay real premium when you can get 90% of the features for about 25% of the price.

      @@Photogearnews yeah you're right you want to feel confident in it holding expensive equipment, I would love one but it s a lot of money. I guess tripod manufacturers must be running out of ideas now there's only so much you can do with them 3 legs.

    No thanks ! I will stick with my 60 year old Leitz (still made by Leica so it must be a great design) table tripod. In a tripod of this size the use of carbon fibre is an unnecessary expense for hardly any weight saving.

      The legs hold 25KG... that’s the same as the Manfrotto 545GB full size video tripod

    • @Photogearnews
      @Photogearnews  6 років тому

      (But it’s still v. Expensive)

    • @marom.ohayon
      @marom.ohayon 6 років тому +1

      But we count the weak point for the practical use, and it's the head with max payload of 3 KG. So the legs payload doesn't provide any real benefit.
      Companies really should reverse engineer their products from the user's POV and bring them value for the buck. This is really not the case here.

    • @Photogearnews
      @Photogearnews  6 років тому

      Whack another head on and your good to go. It would be interesting if the head and legs were sold separately. I’d actually be interested in the head as it was very solid when I tried it, and usually small ones like that are a bit rubbish. Legs were steady and as Tom Mason has pointed out in another comment, as a wildlife photographer have something that low to the ground that could hold a camera, telephoto lens and a gimbal head could save a lot of weight of carrying a standard small tripod.
      Gitzo is always extremely well engineered at a price that is way above the norm. They also have that brand identity. I was a little shocked at the price when I saw it. All things considered I was expecting it to be maybe €100.

    Buy it for the look. Buy it for the prestige. Buy because money is not an object to you. But ya damn well an idiot to pay that much for a simple tiny three legs tripod with a ball head. Then again there's always someone who has money to burn and addiction for gear. LOLz
