The Civil War often evokes glorified and romanticized images of battles, swirling smoke, bright flags and struggling masses of men. However, the drama and tension of battle was only a small part of the average soldier's life. Explore the realities of daily life for the Civil War infantryman in this living history reenactment video. Discover what type of men volunteered and why they decided to join the fight. Historic reenactors demonstrate how the infantrymen cooked and what they ate, how they dressed and what equipment they carried, and how they were trained to use muskets and work in formation. Sanitary conditions, illness and diseases, and medical care is also discussed.
For anyone who was part of the 125th Anniversary series of re-enactments, this film will bring back memories as it's sort of a 'Greatest Hits' from the re-enactments of that era.
Some Classic Re-enacting videos are already searchable on UA-cam, but we wanted to start a new series of some rarely or never before seen classics that either only aired once or where short lived and available only to a select few at the time. We hope you enjoy.

This is from the 80s?! It's much better than many things you see today, discounting your channel, of course

It’s a shame that nowadays, one side is demonized. I agree, never forget the sacrifice.

As a modern day infantryman, I can appreciate seeing a page of our beginnings. Thank you for the content.

I’m sure you were wondering, like I was, why the men at the beginning were sitting around with unloaded weapons, and had to be told to load them only when contact was made…. Their CO needed a talking to.

It’s a shame that nowadays films like these can’t be made because one side has to be demonized versus the other.

200,000 African Americans were Union soldiers fighting as United States Colored Troops. They were critical to the Union victory over the Confederacy.
