I can tell you grew up in this era, your faithfulness to this sound feels the most authentic than any other the other ones that you’ve done. Brilliant!
This is more Tim and Bob. Timbaland has the meanest bounce that many failed to replicate. Nevertheless, this would be a mean beat in the 2000s. If it isn't a single definitely a dope album track. Now your old recording, that's Neptunes
What I love about the beats in the 2000s were the variety in sounds each region had. Everyone had their own sound and style. Some beats even had a mood to them, like some beats sounded happy some sounded sad, some even sounded like a specific season. This is what's missing from beats nowadays; variety and producers who have a great ear for samples
I don’t feel like that’s true. There’s more variety in rap music than ever and there are still several stylistic regions. Detroit has its own sound, New York and New Jersey got their own wave, Louisiana has its own sound, Memphis still has its three six mafia influence, and Cali has always had its own distinct style.
We actually had the Korg Trinity. The Trinity/Triton has the best key beds I have ever felt for a keyboard. And you taking me back. I had the VS880. I used that thing for everything.
It's crazy to think that my home studio is equipoed with tech that only s-tier producers of the early 2000s had access to; apart from the Triton, which I don't have anything equivalent to (but maybe could do in software), I have a tascam 24 bit multitrack digital recorder, an sp404 mk2 and a bunch of synths and drum machines, and yet I never get much further than a collection of 4 or 8 bar loops. You make it seem so effortless!
My dad had a wide collection of CDs and cassettes and tapes and live show dvds back when i was a kid. He was an underground DJ in the 80s (he was mixing on a tape decks) when he was young and since the beggining of my life i was always around music. I think that planting the passion for music was the best thing he ever did to me. Your dad is the GOAT for letting you play with his gear and explore your own passion for music making.
Definitely the platinum age of production bro…it’s ironic that this popped up in my feed because my producing partner and I said we need to take it back to the 2000s and we used exactly that MOC2000XL and Korg Triton to make so many tracks…that workflow is the best for creativity. I’m going back to that…great track and thanks for the inspiration!!!👊🏿👊🏿👊🏿
This is a true beauty of a retro modern beat creation!!!! Love the sample usage here, perfection!!!! Big ups to this creative producer and musician!! Much love, from one producer to another!!!
When I saw the title, I KNEW you were using a Triton. That was truly the go to keyboard for mainstream hit singles in that era. I personally liked the Motif better, but the Triton was a force. I also had the 2480. You could get high quality studio/industry recordings out of those Rolannd recorders. I'm shocked they haven't come out with new equipment like a new MV in this era.. Another great video. I love your work and music. That childhood song is hilarious.
Agreed! I have a later model motif too, I’m thinking of using it for a mid-2000s vid. Also, I’m surprised how good the audio quality is in the Roland, i didn’t realize it was 24bit at first
@@jaydiggsmusic the roland VS gear is 24-bit but it's not straight lossless PCM unless you're using MAS or CDR modes. Roland's RDAC data compression is a lot less severe than squeezing the tracks through a bad mp3 encoder, and demonstrably works great, but I guess DAWs got powerful enough that dealing with raw PCM stopped being a technical challenge as the 00s progressed. I still kinda want a VSR-880. stick it in the rack and treat it like a tape deck.
@@jaydiggsmusic the thing I loved about the Roland gear is that I could midi the mpc up to it. So if I wanted to remix a song or change drums, it was an easy fix since I could sync it.
the end product really just tells me you care about what you're doing unlike a lot of yt producers who just wanna get that bread. fantastic stuff man, seriously!
My thoughts exactly. Sounds like a beat they made for Bobby V back in the day. Timbaland has a distinctive bounce that many imitators failed to master.
Dude! Was your dad a producer? That’s some awesome stuff to just have in the basement. BTW, vinyl shrink-wrap has been known to shrink and warp records, even with some cut-open sides, once it’s old enough. It’s bad news when it happens! It’s mainly affecting 60s and 70s records right now AFAIK, but changes in best practices for record sleeve storage are slowly percolating through the vinyl collector community. Some are taking the plastic off once their records are 20-30 years old, others are foregoing it altogether now. Of course the cardboard might get scuffed without the plastic, but that’s preferable to the kind of damage to both sleeve and record that can occur from extreme shrinkage. Just thought you’d want to know if you have a lot of records 😊
@@imlxh7126 im 11 and all i have is a cheap mic, cheap keyboard, and a fl studio trial but at least im coming out with bangers (dont you dare banger-check me)
Those aluminum foil walls really do take me back to Y2K! Really love watching you work with the MPC, it’s amazing what you’re able to do with those samples. Thanks for the video!
Oh man, the Roland VS2000CD, with a CD recorder and also had a song box section with 808 sounds to record a track and rock in direct mode so you can adjust it. Keep it in storage and use it for 4 years until it outgrows the VGA monitor and is truly a complete 16 track stereo 32 mono DAW. It was a gem to have this recorder for guitarists, which in those days was more stable than any PC with Cubase. The nice thing about these multitrack things is that they have all the inputs available with the sidechain and all the things dedicated to each channel. The sound of the recording is very good and I usually transfer audios through the USB 2.0 cable. I usually burn CDs with the recorder to have ideas compiled in my collection of instrumentals so I can put them into anything standard. I bought the machine new and now I changed the SSD hard drive that the system supposedly cannot read, but being in Fat 16 format the machine can read very quickly and now it becomes more stable and has less delay when loading the audios. I use my MPC 2000XL with the 8 outputs connected to the 8 inputs of the mixer, it has the same green screen and the same firmware. VS2000CD came with a 40GB hard drive, I changed it several times and discovered that if I didn't have the internal hard drive, the machine continued to function as an analog table. So these machines are digital recorders with an analog mixer with analog inputs and outputs and with digital effects. Thanks for the video 😅👍👍
