I hope you like "The Killer Angels". There is a 1993 TV film adaptation of the book called "Gettysburg". It was filmed on location at Gettysburg. It's a mixed bag of a film, but I do enjoy it. It's a fairly faithful film adaptation. I have not read the sequel to Riders of the Purple Sage. I know nothing about it. I read "Flags of Our Fathers" a long time ago. I thought it was good. It was interesting learning about Ira Hayes. I only knew him from the Johnny Cash song before reading the book. IMO Hook is unjustly maligned. I like that movie. I think all the interactions between Dustin Hoffman (Captain Hook) & Bob Hoskins (Smee) are hilarious. I own that same book "Wyatt Earp: The Life Behind the Legend". I read it in the early 2000s and remember being scandalized by the true story. Happy reading Austin. You picked up some good ones.
I haven’t read a whole lot on the civil war so I’m very interested to see how the killer angels is. I’ve heard the song ira Hayes many times by Mr Cash and I really enjoy it. So I’m ready to see how the book is and read about their experiences. Hook is definitely underrated in my opinion and the interactions between hook and Smead are highlights of the movie lol and I forgot who told me about the Wyatt Earp book I should’ve guessed it was you lol
Good haul and I think you will really enjoy The Killer Angels. I read The Rainbow Trail in June and, yes, it is the sequel to Riders of the Purple Sage. Most of the characters are new but there are a couple of carryover characters and story thread. I have Epitaph and also her novel Doc but have not yet read them. They are supposed to be good. For a recommendation, I have a non-fiction book, Jesse James Last Rebel of the Civil War by T J Stiles. I really enjoyed it. Take care.
Those last 2 books look good... Nice little haul from the library! Are you going to do Hide & Reads Sackett Reads this month? If you are I'm wondering if you wanna push our buddy read off a bit. I don't want us to get burned out with too much westerns in one month... Let me know so I can plan accordingly. Thanks my friend!
Thanks! And yes sir I planned on joining the sackett read. And if you wanna push it back a bit then that’s ok with me sir. I definitely don’t want either one of us to get burned out on westerns lol
Nice little haul Austyn!
Thanks!
