Ever since I herd the story a year ago, something about it vibed with me. I've always had a fascination with normal ponies being in love with something supernatural, so this story just hit me the right way. Now this song is out, and I love it too. Thank you so much for writing and singing this Lost and Magpie. And of course a shout out to SonicScope for the tone and music and UrbanQhoul for the artwork that just makes the video more amazing and dark.
The rap segments were quite good. I really like some of the lyricism. 1:48 That "Splice in a pie slice, so they don't think twice" flowed so nicely. I also like how this song gave more information on who Vinyl stole her parts from. More lore is always great. RIP Lemon Hearts, Minuette and the colt who got his cutie mark stolen.
I just finished reading the fic and I LOVED IT! From what I can theorise is that Tavi almost died and Vinyl revived her and from that time one their bond deepend and with Vinyl needing a body and some features and a voice to be whole and to tell Tavi she loves her. That's how at least combining the song and fic how I see how they became to be. Really loved both of you're works and hope to maybe see an hour long prequal showing us how those two love birds met!!
Probably have to be the fact that either A. Their relationship has to do with the music that they make, even when their style of music are different. or B. Octavia probably may have fallen in love with Vinyl while in a drunken state at a nightclub one time.
From the song it implies that Octavia was killed by a pony, maybe a robbery gone wrong or just a random act of violence. While she was dying, Vinyl, a demon, saw or felt her soul and was drawn to it, possibly because Octavia had a darkness in her, or a potential for it anyway. The Demon Vinyl helped revive Octavia and stayed attached to her like some form of shadow, and Octavia got to know her and fell in love with her. So much so that when Vinyl started deteriorating, Octavia was more than willing to kill to help keep her "alive".
Who says the love goes both ways? Vinyl's a demon tethered to Octavia who needed her help to lure in ponies to harvest for parts and to eat their souls. Demons are known to lie to, trick and manipulate mortals to get/do what they want. IMO the "silence" at the end of the song was Vinyl, finally complete with a body tethering her to the moral realm no longer needing Octavia and killing/feeding on her
The fanfiction it's based on May go more in depth about it. I don't quite remember. I just recall Vinyl finally being whole and them cuddling at the end.

This song inspired me to check out the original story, which I loved! But something I think this song does nicely that I don't see many comments on is expanding the story! It's never mentioned where some of her other parts came from and doesn't go into exact details on how they met (through Octavia's death and revival). In Screams and Silence, we see the end of their journey, the final piece, but this song does a lovely job telling their whole story, from start to end. Beautiful job!

When Octavia says “There’s more ponies to slay”, maybe this hints that A. She’s killing ponies, B. She brings the ponies to Vinyl to either eat or kill for energy, OR C. She kills the ponies to make sure Vinyl stays alive. Perhaps Vinyl saw that Octavia had a type of music. Just like her. When they first saw eachother, maybe they fell in love with one another. Vinyl also said how she apparently “Loves her voicebox”, and Octavia said “You’re finally complete”, so maybe Vinyl took Octavia’s voice too? But maybe Vinyl borrowed it, and then gave it back. So, my conclusion is: Octavia was on the brick of death, and due to Vinyl liking her singing and looks, Vinyl saved her, and lived as her shadow. They soon had feelings for eachother. In favor for Vinyl needing souls to eat to survive, Octavia kills off ‘useless’ ponies, soon as the two were in a relationship!
