I watched this game in person and also watched Belgium Vs Brazil in the next round. After watching Belgium beat Brazil I left the Kazan stadium 100% certain that Belgium would win the World Cup in Russia. I respectfully disagree with you.
They cornered a great team like the Dream Team. And they lost to the best in the world. It was a valuable game for Japan to realize the level of play at that time.
I was there in Japan during the WC, I watched the games with the Japanese. After this game, I walked the streets of osaka with thousand of others at dawn, and while everyone was at least a little sad, they were also proud, proud that their boys delivered such an amazing game.
I'm Croatian and my heart broke for Japan. They were the WC sweethearts, both team and their wonderfully well mannered fans. On the other hand, the Belgian golden generation never should've gotten themselves in a postion to chase the comeback but still came in clutch for their country. Deserved the win, all in all a marvelous match. One for the ages!
Fellaini was an underrated player. He was so important in moments such as these. He scored here, and assisted for Man United's equaliser in the FA Cup final.
I admit I was disappointed to see Japan not trying to win the group stage with the fear that Poland would send them home, they just relied on the Nigerian yellow cards and finished in the tough side of the knockout stage. If they were brave enough they would have encountered easier teams and make it through the semifinal if not even the final. So I was disappointed, but seeing the miracle they were doing against Belgium I forgave that choice to arrive 2nd. Japan soon will play well enough to make it to the quarterfinals and semifinals.
Missed loads for Everton, but scored loads as well, touch and finishing can let him down, otherwise he would be regarded as 1 of the greatest strikers of all time

My team has the comeback contender of all time. We were down 4:0 after 20 minutes, but ended up winning 4:5 (4:2 at half time), scoring the winner in the last minute of overtime. For me it was my debut match. I wish there were cameras, but at least we have the scoreboard online.
