I upgraded to it from my first real kit Sparrows Tuxedo. I love it. I heard someone say in another review that the ,4 picks are no good for beginners and that we are likely to break them fast. I get that opinion, for a complete beginner that probably is 100% accurate but at the same time i dont think that complete beginners are the ones buying this kit. I find it very helpful and have learnt a lot about tension, feedback and nuance because i've switched between the 0,4 and the 0,6 versions of the picks. I start with the thick one because it's easier for me and when i picked the lock a couple of times and are familiar with how the lock feels and how much tension it likes then i try to pick it with the thinner pick. It's still the same lock and method but you need to adapt your tension, your use of leverage and be more accurate in placement on the pins and the angles. Very good pratice. Also i like the steep, deep hooks. They let me attack just the pin i mean to attack and i'm able to set the pin without feeling like i lift 5 pins with the same movement. Maybe me being a Swede has something to do with it too? Liking the SSDev style picks. In Sweden we have ASSA locks everywhere. On my keychain i have maybe 8 different ASSA keys. To work and home and family. No other brands at all. I'm trying to find a lockpicking community in Stockholm with no luck yet. If anyone know anything about communities in Stockholm or anywhere in Sweden please tell me. Here or you find my email here on my About-page on youtube. Just found this channel. I picked for a couple years 30 years ago in college. I got the MIT lockpickers guide off a BBS. Made my own tools out of nails and sweeper blades. Good fun. Lost interest when didn’t have to break into the laundry room to do late night washing.
Nice kit, as always from Multpick. A side note; as mentioned before - you can easily make (TOK) tensioners out of music (piano) wire that fits perfectly in a specific lock. 3 mm or 3.5 mm diameter is perfect. A multi-tool (like Gerber or Leatherman) usually have all the tools you need to make one on the fly. At home you use needle files. The tip you file will be soft and will wear. Cut it off and file a new tip when that happens. You can even make tensioners that will NOT fall out of the lock when tilted. Perfect control for spool type pins.

I don't use power tools, just needle files to shape them and pliers to bend them. Not hard really, as long as you don't use wire too thick to manually bend. A vise could be of help. Edit: Buy music wire. Pre-cut a few into a suitable lengths using a hack saw and store them in your EDC or BOB. In the wild: When you encounter a lock where you have no suitable tensioner (wrong size, obstructed angle...) - make one on the fly from the straight stock you carry. At home: just make or modify them NOT using your Leatherman/Gerber/... - tool. The multi-tool should only be used when you positively and definitively have no other option. Always keep pristine unused stuff in your BOB. That's a general rule for anything that goes into your BOB.

Love the intro's! Definitely for the advanced picker. No fast gimmicks no rakes or bypass tools. Go right to SPP with a fine selection of hooks and TOKs in graduated sizes. This set is made for seasoned lock pickers only, not for beginners.

If you can't buy the TOK tensioners separately, you can make them out of various thickness piano wire. The piano wire tip can be filed to the angle you require, so the tensioner can sit in the top of the keyway straight up or at whatever angle you desire. Thicker piano wire has less flex than wiper inserts as well.
Started to pick locks for fun after watching hours and hours of this channel. Thanks for getting me addicted. I picked a bunch of padlocks and opened every one but one little one. My chinese amazon picks dont get in the keyway very good, so, maybe with this lockpick set? Best wishes from Germany.

That's a really good price for such a high quality kit. I'm not a competitor so I wanted some more rakes for cheap everyday locks, but those would be easy enought to add. I'd love to buy those top of the keyway tension tools. Hopefully, they sell them as a set.
Checking on the MultiPick store it seems they only offer those TOK tensionors with the Champion kit. They name them (SP20 - SP24) but they aren't listed for individual sale. 1 x Tension wrench (SP20) - 0.8 x 2.4 mm 1 x Tension wrench (SP21) - 1.0 x 2.4 mm 1 x Tension wrench (SP22) - 1.2 x 2.4 mm 1 x Tension wrench (SP23) - 1.0 x 2.5 mm 1 x Tension wrench (SP24) - 0.8 x 2.5 mm
Well that's a bummer. On dimple locks I remember GorillaPicking uses an Allen wrench and grinds a perfect taper on the short end to slide in a wedge for that full control you need for spools and other security pins. I would think Bill, LPL, and Sir Noob of Locks (LockNoob to the rabble 😉) might be able to put their heads together on an adjustable TOK-tool. OOHHHHH! How about something along the lines of a slotted screwstarter?

Has Bosnianbill mentioned or reviewed the Peterson Shrike line of picks without handles? A quick search doesn't turn up anything, but that doesn't mean he hasn't mentioned them in a video I haven't seen.
The set is pretty nice and so are the tensioners. I wish those were available outside of the set, which does not seem to be the case (yet). The same unfortunately seems to be true for the Christina Palmer sets. One advice on the case: I own the same one, it came with my 27pcs dual gauge set and because it's pretty packed in both rows the leather seems to slightly mark up on the outside where the pick edges are. Using a bit of leather conditioner and/or Dubbin helped countering that effect. With this one it's probably unnecessary as there are no picks in the back row but it can't hurt to give it a once over to preserve the beautiful leather a bit better
@@JoeHamelin sure, buying new always is an option but taking care of nice things just feels better. Leather conditioner and dubbin can be had for under 10 bucks total and last for a long long time - and if you wear eg leather boots you might already have them. Also well nourished leather ages beautifully, so it's win:win

I feel like those TOK tensioners could be double-ended too, with one end thinned down in either width or depth, to give a total of ten different end profiles.
Variable thicknesses give you positive control over lock cores of many keyway sizes instead of just a few. That's why I have more tension tools than I have picks that I use, anything wide open can be picked fairly easily with a sloppy but flexible tensioner, but with the tighter and more irregular key ways (assuming there are a variety of security pins with a intentional binding order from production) you need more precise tension control since interior warding can cause slipping, and counter rotation needs light enough tension to clear the sheer line but maintain positive control to prevent wider diameter previously set pins from falling back into the key way (especially specialty spools with two different diameters top and bottom that allow for hard to percieve traps, since the base and head of a spool of this variant could have different binding orders) forcing you to restart once that wider security pin causes enough counter rotation to drop more previously set pins, many hard to pick locks use a few deceptive tricks like this to force a skill and equipment requirement on the would be lock picker.
Well, cylinders are usually mounted the other way around in Europe. So a “top of key way” tension wrench is applied to the bottom of a mounted Euro cylinder… which makes it natural for a European company to name those wrenches bottom of the key way.
