First time commenter. :). Sounds like a good one for an early whisky journey-person to buy and take a wee step up. Thanks. Happy New Year to you. :)
Hey Richard! Yeah definitely a good one to pick up if you're just starting out or want to explore higher ABV's. Decent bang for your buck if you ask me.
Thank you for the review. I would’ve given it a B+ thought it was a really great tasting whisky with a excellent price point and at 48%. Well done Glenlivet!
Yes, well done Glenlivet! It's so easy to get good flavors if you amp up the ABV and not chill filter, right? So easy!
Great review, I will probably pick this up next time I go whisky shopping.
You should!
Trying find my bottle in my part of the world, nice review as always it acts as a trigger to pull the trigger.
Good luck Ravi. Let me know when you find one!
As usual, a wonderfully entertaining review. Will really try to find a bottle.
Do let me know when you do Cliff. Good seeing you again.
Looking forward to opening my bottle. By your tasting notes it looks like a typical bourbon matured Glenlivet. A little cheaper here in Germany. As always a throughly enjoyable video. Slàinte Mhath.
Thank you. Yes, I feel it's just a higher strength standard 12 ( MAYBE ) with a slightly higher percentage of first fill bourbon barrels. Anyway, that's just my guess.
Love the stash
Thank you!
I've seen this and wondered about it. Thank you, I shall buy it. The one thing that will be a minor reservation in my mind is the 'pear' comment. Several lifetimes ago when I was a new Postgraduate student, there was a project on new spirit (less than two year old) in our Food Science department, where people were invited to taste and comment. The key elements of these were a strong grassy, pear-drops, general ester-y (ethyl acetate, isoamyl acetate) and whenever I hear this or detect it, it always makes me think that there's too much young spirit in the mix. For the price, it might make a nice addition to my go-tp $50 Machir Bay, Talisker Storm and Oban Little Bay trinity. Thanks!
That's very interesting about the pear nose. Well the youngest whisky in here is 12 so we're good on that front. I think this is more of a fruity pear than an estery pear (I think!). Give it a try and let me know what you think.
Happy new year
Happy New Year to you too!
I do like this bottle. It's a very good Glenlivet. Much better then the regular 12yo 👌
Definitely better than the standard 12 for sure
I was hoping you did a review on this whiskey. I saw this at my Costco and wondered being new to the Scotch game what your take
I think it's worth buying
I got one at Costco for $33 USD. With some of the characteristics, I think it might pair well in Tiki cocktails.
Great idea! Lemme know when you try
TABS: Great contest for 2k subscriber mark! All Arran is great, but the one you feature in contest must be fantastic, as Arran produces only great whisky!
That's true!!
If you have a Signatory Glenlivet single 1st fill sherry cask 46% it's worth blending a small sample bottle 50/50 and letting it sit a week. Cheers
Damn, that sounds like fun. I don't have a Signatory Glenlivet but let me see what else I can do.
I just can't take the name seriously, theres a lot of fluff with history in Scottish whisky marketing., some of it I like I'm a sucker for a good story but sometimes it seems a bit contrived...especially so with this one considering that Glenlivet was given credit for being one of the first to go legal and pay taxes and supposedly upset the rest of the industry so much that George Smith had to carry a gun in order go about his business of running a legal distillery to come out with this seems a bit disingenuous. Its a shame because I don't think Glenlivet needs to try so hard, they make a decent malt, they don't need a circumspect back story.
Hey Steven. While I agree with what you're saying I've long stopped trying to make sense of the marketing department. I say do what you have to do just give me a good whisky. If it's illicit stills it's illicit stills - go make merry.
