    There are 3 major international economic regions. North America, Europe, and East Asia, (becoming Asia more broadly now and the largest likely in the future). NCY dominates North America, London dominate Europe, but in Asia there is no dominant city, hence why there are many cities there in the Alpha+ range but none in the Alpha++, and why the NA and EU regions don't have many Alpha+ cities because of the dominance of NCY and LON in those areas, especially NYC in NA which is the Number 1 city realistically in the world.

    India had a fertility rate of 2.14 in 2023. Within a few years it might fall below replacement rate. The fundamental flaw in many population predictions is that the models assume that the fertility rate will not continue decreasing at the same amount each year as previous decades, but magically flattens out. I think a more correct prediction would be that it flattens out at about 1 child per woman. Assuming 10 billion people in 2100, 3 generations per century, 1 child per woman and constant average average life expectancy, the planet will have 1.25 billion people in 2200, 156 millions in 2300, 19.5 millions in 2400, and 2.4 millions in 2500. Exponential calculation is fun!

    • @ssssaa2
      @ssssaa2 День тому

      Some new religion or ideology will sweep over the depopulating regions and the fertility rate will go much up under the new system, so the population will not possibly fall that much globally for such a long time. Simple Natural selection will enforce this. Any society/culture/religion that doesn't have kids will just be replaced.

I live in the north of England and whilst it is not wealthy in the way that London is, where my daughter lives and I have lived previously, there are lots of people with money here and it is a million miles from being a 3rd world country.

    • @ssssaa2
      @ssssaa2 День тому +3

      You mean the country that is set to start halving or worse in population every single generation moving forwards? If it weren't for that you would probably be right, but it is almost certainly going to be in steep decline within 1 and especially 2 generations time if the fertility rate doesn't go up enormously.

    • @shqip_sumejja
      @shqip_sumejja 21 годину тому

      @@ssssaa2 the population shrink is a huge problem but no doubt the economy is strong enough to accommodate for an aging population. The country's shifting its objectives to be less reliant on a large workforce anyway with more focus on highly educated sectors like the technology industry.
      Also... even with decline, they are still going to remain hugely populated compared to other countries

    • @pineapplesareyummy6352

      @@ssssaa2 Even the most dire predictions have China's population halving by the year 2100. And that still puts China's population at double that of the US. Keep in mind countries like Japan, Germany and Italy have been stuck in extreme low fertility for the last 40 years. They are still there and kicking. China is many times larger.

    Well, there is the fact that China is the largest manufacturer and exporter in the world, by far, so it would make sense it has the most cities that "dominate global business". Being ALpha ++ doesn't mean that things are better. I haven't been to NY, but in London the impression I got that everything is very commercial, franchised, globalized, boring. There's no character to anything and nothing exceptional that sticks out. It probably exists, but it's very expensive and not for the common man. These places are for very rich elite and the rest has to content itself with terrible choices. Life is much better in other places.

    • @iliamanolov5926
      @iliamanolov5926 День тому +7

      Nah, London has spaces that have some of the most character I've ever been to, you just have to go a bit outside the city centre. Shoreditch, Angel, Brixton, Hackney - all of those are still mostly not commercialised and differ a lot from what you see in the West End.
      Same applies to Tokyo and NYC really, not to mention that each of the large cities has its own character even in the commercialised touristy spots.
