The Rolleiflex camera is a classic medium format camera that was popular during the mid-20th century. It features a twin-lens reflex design, which means that there are two lenses mounted on the camera, one for taking the picture and the other for viewing the scene. This design allows for precise framing and composition, making it a favorite among professional film photographers.

Yeeeees more analogue, he’s becoming one of us. Don’t worry too much about exposure, as long as you’re giving it more light not less negative film is very forgiving to exposures being wrong.
Also dang a 2.8f that can’t have been cheap. Haha $3k you even said.

When I was young (many years ago) this camera was the Rolls Royce of cameras. The resolution was incredible. Very easy to use. If you get a chance the Nikonos underwater camera is also worth a look. Tough but very clear photography. My dad dropped it from a helicopter in Viet Nam from 500 m . He found it and kept shooting.

I LOVE these photos! Just enough of the contrast and, honestly, being a bit closer will bring more emotion.. for me, that’s my opinion. I was emotionally invested the photo of the girl putting the makeup on. I think too, that since your looking down, like you said, you’ll be able to get closer and that will make you enjoy your work even more

Man, this video reminded me of when I held my dream camera for the first time, in my case a Hasselblad 500cm. They are difficult cameras, but as you say, addictive, and very interesting. What I don't understand is that rollei are so expensive compared to hassel. Congratulations

A fine machine you have got. I own a Rolleicord Va without lightmeter but you don't really need it these days, there's a bunch of smartphone apps that will do the job. I agree with you, Ilford is more forgiving a film, I usually shoot FP4 125 and reserve the Tri X for 35mm (I shoot a Contax II and a Nikon FM2, both great cameras and gorgeous looking also) snapshots. My Rollei cost me less than 400$, 3,5 aperture, sturdy as a sledgehammer. That's another advantage of the Rollei. Combined with the leatherband it makes an excellent defensive weapon. You can knock off any knave's teeth with a single blow.
One gizmo you may like to use is a cable trigger. It makes you much more unconspicuous and it helps a lot with slower speeds.

Congratulations on the rolleiflex! It’s a beauty! I have my beloved 2.8 E that is a bit more worn than yours, but take care of it and it will last you a lifetime!! Also the built in meters on these guys can get a little tricky as i you’ve found. They’re far from spot. A trick i like using with mine is lightly cupping my hand slightly in front of the meter and getting a similar light condition of your subject but at an angle away from the sun, then meter off the hand. This works in most cases with mine, but you’ll find where yours is happiest in backlit situations as you use it. Enjoy it in good health!

I kind of play it by ear but in truth I am not so sure what I am doing. The picture when sharp, turn out really well. But I think I need more understanding of how the whole thing works. Congrats on getting your dream camera. I just got mine a few weeks ago. A Nikon f3. I've wanted one ever since I was in high school in the late 1980's and met a genuine photojournalist who was shooting a local event with one. It was my opinion then and today that it's one of the most beautiful cameras ever made. There was no way I could afford it back then, but recently I found one at a bargain price and made that dream come true.

The camera was probably really stealthy back in the day but now its so iconic that it attracts immediate attention. That is actually one of the reasons why I would like to get one: people seem sort of eager to be photographed with it :)
