Such a cool design. I've been looking forward to seeing VW make this for years. I don't have a problem with the range or the fact it doesn't accelerate like a Tesla, but the price just puts it completely out of the realm of consideration. And that's before dealers add $20-30K in markups because of the exclusivity. Really would've loved to have owned of of these otherwise. It looks like they did a great job with it.
Like TFL showed on their road trip, the short range of the Buzz, combined with not being compatible with Tesla superchargers, is an anxiety-inducing problem. People who just drive locally that want something different compared to all the big luxury SUVs might like it... but I can't imagine passing on an Expedition or Tahoe for this.
Definitely, especially if they want to advertise this as a road tripper. If the range is only 231 miles, going to be searching for a charging station often. Would be awesome to be able to advertise it as having a 500 something mile range. I would definitely have seriously considered buying this.
Great review! I had a 66 13 window Deluxe and I miss it terribly. This van is great and being electric make sense as a commuter, though hopefully VW will bring the California package model from Europe over here. Can’t wait to cruise one down PCH in Malibu.
I love this! Although I would think it needs a bigger battery though. I also test drove this and love the way it drive. It looks so much cooler than EV9 even though yes it’s got better range.
I have a 76 VW Bus camper. Fully restored. I've been looking forward to this new BUZZ for the full 20 years that VW has been toying with the design and cancelling the build due to typical VW procrastination. Like Diesel Gate. Yet another cancellation. VW has had a waiting list for the Buzz for about 2 years, and now it's here. My local dealer has 5. They arrived 2 weeks ago. So much for the waiting list, not one has sold yet. Price is at least 20K higher than "promised", but the worst part is the range. A total failure of VW to bring this out with range that's simply not acceptable considering it was promised to be in excess of 300-350 miles. The Tesla adapter isn't available yet, so who is going to be buying them?. The base model is REAR WHEEL DRIVE. WTF were they thinking. I like it a lot, but Volkswagen's broken promises once again just won't fly.
Regarding that comment: As the original VW Bus had a gas tank of about 10 gallons for many years, that would have also made it worthless, as it would perhaps achieve only 15 to 20 miles per gallon when carrying a load. So the original VW bus was worthless to people all over the World, as it had less range than the ID Buzz. Amazing how the original bus was so popular for so many years, being worthless and all.
The generation that enjoyed the old version is much older and don’t drive anymore, who did they market it for? It’s different than the Honda odyssey, at least people have options, though I do agree with another person, they should have had a hybrid. If my adult son had a small family, it wouldn’t be his first choice. Price?
OMG.... He looks worse everyday.... he has aged so fast... how did he get from a clean youthful look to a sloppy Scottish highlander???? Changed so much so fast...
It interesting looks-wise, but price-wise it is completely unaffordable. The other thing (for me) is the glass roof...I live in a hot climate and I don't want or need any glass roof. Why the obsession with glass roofs on electric vehicles where energy is at a premium?
Honestly VW is trying for retro so hard(Beetle III in 2025) that it is beginning to hurt to look at them. And all electric on top of it all. This one with its limited range and high price doesn’t seem to have any real application. Maybe once again the gotta have it crowd will save them but…. Most folks who remember the early transporter are giving up driving or dead. Those of us who do remember them and ever drove one are usually trying to forget them.
If they sell in the thousands and thousands and are a great success call me on it. If you are right I will apologize here in front of Ben and everyone. But I don’t think I will have to do that.
@Fevebblefester leave it because nor everyone can afford this there are a lot of broke people so thatswhy you are saying thousands so u don't have to do it.
Ok, what level of sales do you consider a success then? And what level of sales does VW consider a success then? VW is in financial trouble. Closing plants and Laying off workers for the first time in decades if not ever. If you are a proponent of EV’s then good for you. But right now no matter how you measure it you are in the minority. Maybe in a decade or so things will change but not now. EVs are sitting on lots everywhere.
Nice looking vehicle but it needs an engine. The VW group is pushing to electrify their vehicles to meet EU regs while neglecting some gas models. Europe has shorter driving distances and a better charging infrastructure than we have. Not just VW but Porsche is limiting their model offerings while they change some ICE models to electric. Nice review.

Tesla Supercharger network available to VW in 2025.
Probably would be a sales success if it wasn’t fully electric.
The fact that it's nearly $70K for an all wheel drive version with barely 200 miles of range is the killer for me.
The reason people buy iBUzzz is it being electric.
This should have a 3 cycl enginer for range extender. Similar to bmw i3. Wouldve made the best road tripper. 230miles is nothing.
Dude a vw beetle EV with 300 miles of range would be amazing
Should have been a hybrid....
NO EV is the best thing good it's electric.
At the least a gas range extender
@@frankjohns6062That would add another few thousand dollars to the price.

The kind of car that turns a lot of heads at release and then is quickly forgotten because it’s worthless junk
I love this! Although I would think it needs a bigger battery though. I also test drove this and love the way it drive. It looks so much cooler than EV9 even though yes it’s got better range.

2025 Volkswagen ID.Buzz 1st Edition 4MOTION AWD Long Wheelbase!
If VW would make another new Beetle, and put a air-cooled engine in the rear, I would buy it.
Range makes
It worthless. Love retro look. That price and range? NOPE
No just admit you are jealous.

Take a shot every time Ben says "Cool". 😵💫
Looks like a rolling Hippy Dippy Orange Cream Pop from the 1960"s
I would love it if it was a bit smaller it to me looks so weird being the size as an oversized SUV of today
I like it. But it needs more range 231 miles is not enough!
I saw the commercial maybe 1.5 months ago on TV. I like this version, very cool. However, if it was gas engine, I would be tempted to get one.
@@PRO4XKEV And that would make a big difference.

Shame. I wasted 11 minutes to find out your drive was in transport mode

Hybrid or gas or it's a no go for me.

No they have done the best job ever it is not hurting them and being electric is the best thing cherry on top

you could buy 2-3 really nice examples of the old ones for the cost of this one. the older ones will continue to rise in value too..

Way to expensive and can't do fully electric with only a 235 mile range. 😢
its cute.

Not a fan of EV’s but that does look pretty cool…just can’t get over the EV part..so it’s a hard pass
