I have a favorite moment from one of the lives, but I don’t remember which one! I just remember being taking to a lovely feeling with the rain and greenery. I was glad you didn’t fall on that particular set of stairs.
Have to say the tunnel through the mountain after exploring the abandoned school was probably my favourite. Not knowing what was coming and just enjoying those few moments of Ghibli mystery and wonder…that was probably the sweet spot for me. Thanks Norm. Just cannot imagine a better vicarious experience than yours 😅

I love how Norm basically lives out an open world exploration video game. Just stumbling across random things and going into them to explore. That weird shrine also really reminds me of all the hidden shrines in Ghost of Tsushima.
Japan is an openworld game that just doesn't quit!

This is the best way to celebrate 1M milestone! Driving through Japan in a tiny camper van, lots of new places to explore, meeting old friends and..I love the small scenes that show yourself! (Like tripping over, eating ice cream, chilling in the laundromat etc🤭)

The amount of editing that Norm put in to this video is just amazing. For all those who have not watched the other videos of the trip on the Explore channel, I can only say you are missing out on a whole bunch of great stories unfolding as Norm walk around, being the Norm we love.

I used to watch your vids a lot until i went to Kyoto last November, finally fulfilling my childhood dream. I stopped watching, not because you're bad or something, but i know if i watch another Japan vlog my heart will ache because of how much i miss my time i spent there, how unburdened i am, and it was the first time after years that i genuinely feel happy. Couldn't bear to finish this video after 9:12, seeing those shrines reminds me of Kyoto so much, the way you shoot your vids feels like as if i am really there and it somehow hurts. I really miss Japan ..
Two minutes in and "tiny danger shrine" already has me smiling...it looked like the steps went right up into the sky

This is exactly what I would do as a tourist. I would come to Japan and stay maybe 1-2 months and just explore everything
I wish more people WOULD do this~
If you can manage to do it, do it. I went in summer 2023 for 3 months before the tourist explosion and to this day Its left a hole in me ever since I left. I'm able to somewhat speak Japanese and it made my experience 10 times more amazing. Knowing the language opens up so many doors.
Just watching your adventures ABSOLUTELY making me fall in love in Japan again and again. For sure, I will be back to live in this country.
It all started with you spending 3 months with a Japanese Master Craftsman. Was inspired to build my own live edge resin desk. Thanks for taking us along man, really means a lot to so many of us. Living the Japan dream exactly how I would, exploring!

One big thing that stands out hugely, coming from the UK, is the lack of pot holes in the roads. The UK is twinned with the moon when it comes to the amount of craters our road infrastructure has but it seems the Japanese do take pride in their roads. They must be extremely pleasurable to drive on.

The cinematography, the music and of course the way you are Norm, make this video perfect!!!❤
Here I go with a convoluted and backwards compliment. There's a few scenes (i.e. the PoV of driving "home" through rain, the long take of night sky it turns into a circle) here that are almost perfect and induce this almost unfulfillable yearning and nostalgia for a place I have never been in - the more rural and non mainstream japan - experienced only through movies and anime. Yes, this was the aim, to show the hidden gems, but I think it was almost overshadowed by the technique of the making: you managed to go on the brink of unreality/fantasy with how you managed to shoot and cut it. Now, for the backwards part. I think those idyllic "episodes" can be perfected even further in another video with less pressure of content and perhaps in another channel - longer takes of driving, longer shots of barbecueing with friends. 5-10 seconds extra and let the audience take in the supermundane reality.
For anyone whos reading this, you don't have to go to japan to experience this kind of life and have this kind of attitude towards life. You can do it without much money, without airing it for the whole world (which is a burden). Make the simple -> magical.

Thanks for these amazingly wonderful videos and congratulations on getting your UA-cam recognition, hope your leg is OK. You really inspire me to get a car and drive all around Japan, I so love this. I've driven around Kyushu which is my favourite place, I'm from Australia so the fact the driving thing is the same is so cool, I love the square cars that we can't get here but I love that no matter where we drove in Kyushu the people were absolutely beautiful. The narrow streets with the big deep gulleys were a bit scary when I had to pull off for the bigger cars lol, but it all added to the fun. Thanks again for being such a positive person, I love your videos and I love the fact that I feel like I'm walking right next to you, not thousands of miles away.
