    Thanks so much for your vids on the Vstrom 8 this year. I'm looking to sell my trusty DR 650 and buy a Vstrom 8 in the new year. I've been deliberating between Vstrom vs KTM 890 Adventure, but keep coming back to the Vstrom's reliability & better value. Will better suit my riding which is generally outback long distance out from Cairns. Anyway, cheers and have a great NY.

      It's a good bike, I'm enjoying it. You're right, it will definitely be more reliable. The KTM is more capable though

    I saw the Kwakka Sake video where Juddy and Josh were riding the same dirt roads. An old farmer ran them off uphill from that white gate. Juddy spilled his KLR on the low water bridge where you met the black pickup.
    You do some fantastic riding in wonderful country. If I wasn't still paying on my Africa Twin, I would have to buy an 800DE like yours.
    Happy New Year, looking forward to 2024 OnTheBackWheel.

    Curious, now that you have had the DE longer and put it through the ringer, would you consider it closer to the T7 in off-road capability than originally thought? The rough terrain and single-track stuff look crazy for an ADV bike!

    • @onthebackwheel
      @onthebackwheel  5 місяців тому

      Cheers! The T7 still has it covered by a bit off-road. The 800 would be closer with the suspension done but then it still doesn't have the ground clearance and extra weight

    As a returning rider who after almost bought a CR450RL last week but settled for a 300 rally instead😮…I can report I was averaging 50km per hour for awhile in the forests around Coffs Harbour , not quite the speeds you were hitting on the trails …😅…but close😊.

    • @onthebackwheel
      @onthebackwheel  6 місяців тому +1

    What would springs and revalving cost?

    • @onthebackwheel

    What tools do you keep on you ? Spare tubes and a way to change them ?

    • @onthebackwheel
      @onthebackwheel  6 місяців тому +1

      For small rides like this, just a front tube (it can double as a rear to get you out of trouble) and a tool roll bag. That has enough to get both the front and rear tyres off if need be. I'm just go ta little bicycle pump atm but might look into gettin a lightweight electric/battery pump

    Why did the QuadLock not Lock? I have the same setup, but now I wonder....

    • @onthebackwheel
      @onthebackwheel  6 місяців тому +1

      It's happened a few times now. I think riding on bumpy terrain it wiggles loose or when it's not exactly clipped on it falls off. When I click it on again properly it doesn't fall off

    0:18 that bottoming out 😬. Have you adjusted your suspension on the v storm ? I’m considering getting one next year.

    • @onthebackwheel
      @onthebackwheel  6 місяців тому +1

      That is adjusted! Compression is pretty well all the way in, preload in a bit too. Needs new springs and valving, most soft ADV bikes do unfortunately

    I see you haven't sold your YSS stuff, I had all most given up on finding a decent F800gs for a good price (I was too slow three times) and had almost decided to go for a nice low k KLR as an interim ride for a season or two, until Royal Enfield released the Au price for their new Himalayan 450. So I have decided to go down that path. Haven't owned a new bike since 1977. So the three-year warranty might see me out, or hopefully not. Still have my very clean KLX400r for day rides & weekend camping. So I'm giving up my aspirations of 80hp+ and keeping it tame. Stay safe and stop loosing electronic stuff. Cheers and stay on the back wheel. 👍

    • @onthebackwheel
      @onthebackwheel  6 місяців тому

      Yeah still hasn't sold which is strange. Great choice on the Himalayan, the new ones look great and are well priced

    • @ShadowVonChadwick
      @ShadowVonChadwick 6 місяців тому

      @@onthebackwheel Yes, I was about to contact you as I almost grabbed a great looking KLR. But the 450 is reported to have great suspension for that price point & good low/mid-range grunt. As well as a 400k + range on its tank. So I hope to stay fit enough for some long range camping trips north, south & west. And don't forget the 24/7 road assistance.
