Uber, Lyft drivers constantly cancel on blind passengers with guide dogs, San Jose teacher says

- There’s an issue involving Uber and Lyft. Some people who are legally blind say rideshare drivers are seeing their service dogs and cancelling their rides. They say what these companies are doing is humiliating, and illegal. Investigative reporter Candice Nguyen reports.

Drivers shouldn't cancel on people with actual service animals, but something needs to be done to identify service animals, bc too many people lie. Not only in Ubers, but bringing their dogs into grocery stores & other places animals shouldn't be.
And as long as there's no way to differentiate service animals from support animals & pets, this will continue
Service animals, especially those for the blind have special harnesses. But either way it's wrong. If I could I would drive her for free every day.
The issue is the dog is based on the person with disabilities. A person with pots, seizures, and chronic migraines all use them for different reasons. There should be a certification process but it should also be used to help people with disabilities get more access to service dogs. Some people with disabilities can't afford a professional trained dog. So they do what they can get by with.
Preach!!!!
You do know they have paper work and official service dog apparatus
@@anthonyjones7264 I feel like we're talking about 2 different things. I'm saying there should be a way for a driver or someone working at a grocery store (and I see a TON of dogs that I know aren't service animals in grocery stores) to be able to verify that the dog is an actual service dog, as opposed to a support animal or pet.
Like an ID that shows both the owner and the dog, bc a vest can be shared like a handicap placard. I don't want disabled folks denied access, but I don't wanna let a potentially untrained pet in my uber, and it bites me, plus animals tend to smell. Also, when people bring their pets in grocery stores, it's wildly inconsiderate, as not everyone is comfortable with dogs
The fake service animals behaving badly on planes and in stores have ruined it for people with real guide dogs.
Maybe she should say "I'm blind" because I don't think some of the drivers understand it's a service dog and not a pet.
Thats irrelevant

So get a different Job because if you can't follow the law you shouldn't be working for them. Hope all these drivers that are saying no are jobless now. How hard has it become to just follow the rules it's the law. And shame on you for making someone with a disability feel this way.

I get that it's not a good practice but you can't force people to do these jobs...Im pretty sure Uber/Lyft isn't going to reimburse if there's a mishap. Some drivers probably aren't going against the disability.....just the animal. Ive done Doordash/Instacart because I prefer to deal with goods than actual people simple because of things like this. It's a very touchy subject but what about people who are allergic to animals....a person can get in afterwards and have a full attack simple because they weren't aware of the previous passenger. My concern is Uber/Lyft going to reimburse me for cleaning up after the job...otherwise, I wouldn't do it either. Everybody should be comfortable...not just a few....EVERYBODY!!! And before anybody come attempting to troll me as uncaring, Im a disabled Veteran....so yeah.....just keep scrolling.
This is why I only do delivery. People don't train thir animals correctly or others have allergies it's a no win.
@jakeshields2905 Since most laws get broken anyways, it will continue. Furthermore there are plenty of Federal Laws that goes against peoples morals and beliefs, so yea, I don't see these drivers being any different. Laws are made up by humans. They can be revised to cease the crybabies humans and then, it'll still piss off other humans. Like I said, that's why I don't do Uber/Lyft.....I can choose if I want to delivery you your food for no tip or just because of the area your delivery is
in. My life and property is more important in the end since that by law, is my responsibility. People get so caught up in thinking they're being done unfairly when at the end of the day, shouldn't everybody be comfortable?? Or is there a law against being comfortable??
@@annstillwell730 Exactly....but if Uber offers the PET option like they say, then I would use that...but as they said in the video......its not a pet (cue eye rolling). So maybe they can come up with an ANIMAL Transport option...then the drivers can sign up to also do those assignments. Now after that, if the clients don't sign up for that option because they feel that dosen't apply...then don't cry unfair...because now, you're being irrational.
Is Lyft gonna pay ruined seats every time ? Thought so
I can’t understand how you would make any money. Your car, your insurance, your registration, your fuel, your maintenance, your accidents, your mileage, your car payments, your problems. Biggest scam I have ever seen! Uber and Lyft do absolutely nothing. A computer takes the information via the app then assigns a “driver” when someone responds. Uber and Lyft could be a 15 year old kid in his garage!
what’s sad is the app allows you to specifically order a Uber Pet and they still deny you. I ordered a disability one and got denied for having a medical equipment by a driver.
Uber and Lyft drivers have been know to cancel rides based off a users race this is something that not new this has been happening since the start of lyft and uber first came to town. I used to be a driver for Lyft stopped driving for them after a passenger disrespected my car by throwing trash in it.

Wait.. So as independent contractor, we are now unable to make decisions on who we pick up or not? sounds like Uber wants an employee and not an independent contractor.
Edit: Take accountability? I'm not saying getting denied because you have a service dog is right, however that is what's happening, so work around it. The second you match with a driver call him and ask if a dog is ok, rather than wait for him to get to your door then surprise him with the dog.

I've been driving for Uber and Lyft for 5 years. I HAVE taken these types of rides but I can fully understand why a driver would refuse. The last one I took I picked up two blind people from a train station going to nearby hotel. They were legit blind and needed the service animal, one was a german shepherd the other a lab. Both animals were very well trained, both passengers were very nice. I did the job, got them and their animals in and out of my car as well as luggage. My total fare was 8.00 and they tipped 5.00, but then I had to take my car out of service because there was a HUGE about of animal hair all through my car. I spent at least 20 minutes shop vaccuming the hair out but it was actually took a few weeks for me to eventually get all of the hair out. It really does make a mess. What if my next passenger is allergic? It's not the animals or the disabled passengers themselves, it's the mess it makes in your car. For the amount of aggrevation these trips cause it's NOT WORTH the small amount of money the driver makes. Please keep that in mind before you judge a driver for not wanting to take these rides.
You signed up for public transportation and one of the biggest scams out there. Get over it or good luck fighting ADA laws.

They should just have a special blanket to cover the seats, duh.
Too much hassle for 8-10 dollars, nope not worth it.
These cars don’t belong to Uber. They belong to individuals.
You are wrong. If the animal disrupts the ordinary operation of a business, and the owner can’t bring the dog under their control, they may be denied service. If they were shedding, and substantial amount of hair was shed this would apply, and you could be booted. These instances where they flat out deny her when explaining it s a service dog, and just looking at her no reasonable person could assume otherwise she needs an assistant dog, should be fired, no second chance. Saying it as a driver. Same for service animal fraud. You commit such a crime once, proven to Lyft or Uber and you should never be allowed back on the platform. Not because the event itself is so outrageous but because it destroys the foundation of trust that when a passenger says service animal it be a service animal that is trained to assist the particular handler who wants to travel with you. A driver should never have to make split second evals because there are service dog fraudsters who are not willing to pay $3 for the per service, and then jeopardizing the drivers job.
The problem is that the rates Uber/Lyft pay the drivers is too low. Many feel to just conplete quick rides with no stops. Having a service animal gets the car dirty with hairs, mostly always, other times the car will stink, i personally dont mind that because i am prepared with cleaning supplies and a small vacuum, however, years ago, normal service (with a service animal as well) used to pay way more than nowadays. If Uber/Lyft would pay a fair wage, this would not happen as much, or not at all. Blame Uber/Lyft and their practices. The same goes if you need a ride to the airport for example, a 20 mile ride might run you 50/60 dollarss and the driver is getting at most 20 with maybe an extra dollar. Such driver pay is also why riders have to wait longer to get a vehicle, such low pay is why the friendly customer service is mostly gone, for drivers to make money, they need to complete as many trips as possible, no time for helping with service animals, no time for extra stops (that do not pay the driver more), no time for anything extra for the driver to do. Make no mistake, this is the companies fault. For anyone that has used this service for years, you know service was much different before than now.
please call uber & lift pet ok
Being an independent contractor doesn't matter by law you can not denied them if you cannot understand that you should be deactivated permanently
Exactly!
Both sides have good points. Uber could easily resolve this by allowing Uber Pet to be the same price as Uber x for people with service animals. As a ride share driver I 100% understand not wanting animals in your car. Blaming the driver solely is short sighted. Hopefully a resolution is reached.
Just fake a breakdown.
These cars are owned by the drivers, and they should have the right to decide who they drive and who they refuse. It’s unreasonable for them to pick up someone for $5 and end up with ruined seats due to dog hair and dirt from the dogs’ feet. Most dogs are not kept clean, so why should drivers have to endure that smell for the entire ride? Isn’t it enough that they already deal with some horribly smelly customers? Enough is enough, Uber
They aren’t being picked up because of other passengers. Passengers who lie about the status of their dogs have caused drivers to not want to deal with pets at all. Most people with dogs don’t notice the smell, but every dog stinks. Most don’t behave either. They jump on seats, fling their fur everywhere, and are scary. Many pet owners never scroll down to the Uber Pets option, so they think they have to lie about their pets. Just pay the $5! I had one lady lie about her disability. She saw me well enough from a distance to run to my car, but claimed she was blind. Then her “service animal” made a mess of my car. She then said she had a vacuum to clean up the mess. Of course when we arrived at her place she admitted there wasn’t a vacuum. I knew that already. We know when riders are lying.
Dog hair is really hard to vacuum up and will warrant a stoppage just to get it removed properly ($$$). The next riders probably won’t be happy to get any on their clothes. But if they do, who do these liars think they’re going to blame? The driver or some previous rider lying about a service animal? They will blame the driver. Uber and Lyft don’t care. A driver or his family member can have a severe allergy to fur and they’re told they will just have to suffer.
Full time Uber and Lyft driver here. And we are independent contractors we have the right to decline any ride doesn’t matter the situation. If the driver doesn’t feel comfortable we can decline. That’s in the contract like it or not. It’s our car not uber or Lyft vehicle! And Uber and Lyft will not pay for damage or scratched up seats do to having an animal in your vehicle!
And you can get fine. You can pay the $10,000 fine? By the way Lyft can deactivate you
I'm disabled and i love dogs, a trained dog can ride in my car anytime, but you cannot be realistic in trying to force someone with allergies or a fear of dogs to takes those dogs, both of those things are also disabilities and would also violate the ada. Further, the government routinely violates those laws and since care. It's should be the owner of the properties choice
Uber/Lyft needs to create a Disability app for things like this.
All them dogs ain’t service dogs and we are independent contractors we don’t have to do anything
Uber/Lyft barely pays just create a driver/rider app for pets etc Uber took the Uber pet away and they don’t compensate app for those ppl only and pay accordingly to provide the services we are not healthcare providers and these are our personal cars
I totally agree with it

Being an independent contractor means NOTHING. You allow the public in your car, so you fall under public access rights. Stop being such a whiny wimp.
Problem is you can’t isolate them. Besides Lyft already provides that
The main causes of cancel is drivers are being pay like shyt. If drivers are well pay there will be no problems. All Uber can do is deactivate drivers. And majority of drivers would cancel so if Uber and Lyft deactivated majority of drivers there will not be enough services. It's all come down to money 💰.
The part of independent contractor that doesn't conform.

There are ride services for people with disabilities. These riders don't want to pay extra and they want us to take the time to stop and clean up the dog hair at our expense. Plus, they never tip even though we have to fold up walkers and wheelchairs, take all the extra time
Sadly, I support this comment. I drive for both Uner & Lyft and it's sad that no one is considering the drivers could be allergic or the next passengers could be allergic - vacuuming doesn't solve the issue for many with pet allergies. Tipping would be awesome when accepting these rides and/or assisting with medical equipment. It would be greater if they utilized the resources avail to them for transportation as opposed to have a news segment created.. but I get, I guess
Ride services disabled people are often limited to medical or legal transport. Most don't include transportation for recreational purposes. Speaking as a disabled person with a service animal I can say that we don't get cost of living adjusted for service animal expenses. Therefore when living on a fixed income that's barely enough for a single person we are also paying unavoidable expenses associated with having a dog. That said I tip when I can but this is not often or on every ride.
Then get out of the industry... evidently you are a law breaker and discrimatory... also in emergencies those services you mention require 24 hour notification in order to utilize
Still look at ada laws you can't deny rides due to allergies... and 24 hour notice is usually required so emergency rides are not covered
@lakeshjasarevic4955 that's crazy that you all with service animals aren't receiving supplemental income as well bc it costs to take care of any animal. I guess both sides needs to head to Congress for a better solution.
If you have a service animal why not just charge them more

@@Whitneypyant I look at it this way, just because you have a service animal doesn't mean you get to abuse the system

Kinda shocked that allergies are not an accepted reason to deny dogs because some people can go into anaphylactic shock in the presence of animal fur - hair.
Surely people with a medical condition as severe as you’ve described could obtain a medical exemption. Anaphylaxis is on the extreme end of the spectrum when accounting for all fur related allergies, and if they fall into said category, they deserve to be excluded. How much of the Uber and Lyft driver population do you believe has such an obscure condition?
They should give you an option to accept or deny the ride. The dog needs a car seat with protective padding.
@@spiritualvibrations2825 Its ILLEGAL you cannot deny a service animal.
@@aa777flyer So the driver should accept a ride that will give them anaphylactic shock?
there is an easy fix if Uber wasn't so greedy. people with dog fur allergies shouldn't even get ride requests from people with service dogs .the app itself is at fault.
First this is wrong. Second the policy of allergies not being a valid excuse, yet allergies are considered a disability by ADA, I guess one ADA accommodation does not trump another? Third I honestly blame all the people who bring their animals everywhere and claim "emotional support animal" which FYI are not service animals and are not covered under ADA. Lastly, maybe if uber wasn't so cheap and put the onus on the drivers to keep their car clean who they are paying a pittance in wages they perhaps would be more receptive to service animals, I mean throw in free auto-detailing after a certain number of customers doesn't seem unreasonable, after all they are representing your company.
Exactly because some allergies are so bad they can be fatal. That is my one and only plight.
I would get out of the car and help them. As a Uber and Lyft driver I would happily without a thought help my passenger get into the car.
One of my friend's dads was legally blind, He said it was like looking throw a tiny hole. On some days when it was sunny, he could move around the garden and in the house on his own. But if it was dark or low light he couldn't see anything and would need his stick or someone to help him, We couldn't move things in the house or put things down anywhere where he could trip up because he couldn't see his feet. He got a guide dog and then after a few trips out with us and the guide dog he learned to trust he was safe he then would go out on his own with the dog. It gave him life and independence again.
It breaks my heart when I hear stories of people not being allowed everywhere with their guide dogs.

Firstly, it's not JUST Uber and Lyft. I was just in NYC with my service dog and denied a ride from the airport by several taxi drivers.
Second, not all service dogs are seeing eye dogs, some are medical alert or for psychiatric disorders.
Third service dogs are trained not to willfully destroy property (ie. Chewing, scratching, urinating)

As a former Uber driver, who had a bad experience with a blind man, I can honestly say that there should be a premium pay for drivers as it can be a much more challenging service to complete. I picked a guy up and took him to his destination and he screamed at me claiming I was trying to drop him off into oncoming traffic. The guy was a huge asshole! Same with people in a wheelchair. It should pay drivers more. I got a whopping $4 after getting screamed at. So glad I got out of doing rideshare! A lot of risk for little reward. Rideshare companies need to identify their disabled passengers so they can deactivate those bad drivers.
They aren't 'bad' drivers. The vehicle belongs to the driver, and not the company. Not everyone wants a dog in their own vehicles. And after they transport a dog, they have to clean out their vehicles, which costs time and money. A persons private vehcile that they pay for and are paying the insurance on, doesn't have to transport anyone, or a dog, if they don't want to. A big part of this problem is completely not addressed here. Uber drivers pick up passengers with pets who claim they are their service dogs, but they are not. People know that drivers shouldn't deny service dogs a ride and all passengers are required to do is say that thir dog is a service dog. Alot of times dogs are not trained or groomed and leave hair everywhere. Also, dogs urinate and drool on your seats. If the driver has another ride already waiting whats he/she to do? Lose the ride because a cleanup needs to take place? How does the next passenger feel getting into the vehicle that smells bad and is dirty because an untrained pet was in the back seat?
Shouldn't service dog owners have proof of a registered service animal?
I drive buses and yes, they are supposed to have some sort of card that identifies the animal (I have yet to see this card).
It’s THE reason I stopped driving, along with the poor compensation.
Hey, Uber drivers they sell dog car covers you can easily put down the seats... I think it is disgusting to turn a handicapped person away.. Hopefully, it's not your family member one day that gets this treatment. I no matter what help the handicapped if possible and PROUD OF IT!! Get a different job if you don't like it!!
I have a dog and have dog fur all over my car. When I drove for Uber that day, the customer said he had cancer and can't ride with dog fur because he is allergic. So I guess Uber providing a Dust buster vacuum for all Uber drivers could be a solution.
This happens to me too, so very often. I cant drive due to my disability and my service dog HAS TO come with me. When I get an uber I text the driver immediately “I have a service dog, is that ok?” Normally they say yes. When they pull up though they say no or “Im allergic” and cancel and drive away. I can go through two or three drivers and usually its the same ones in the area. It takes me an extra two hours to go anywhere. Ive basically just become a shut in cause I cant leave the house… It builds on my depression that I cant get out of the house. Lyft is no better. My service dog is also my profile icon so they can see him instantly.
Contractors can decline a job
Fake a breakdown
I have never canceled a ride because of a blind person, or a dog. I have signed for Uber pets.
It is cultural, Asian and south Asian drivers, especially immigrants who have grown up in other countries do that. According to my Uber clients … and there are many drivers like that.
I hate to say it, but Uber and Lyft drivers should not be allowed to drive if they are going to deny a passenger who is blind who has a guide dog with them or service animal. I am an Uber driver and I have never ever turned down any animals For a disabled person or not a disabled person it’s still a paycheck to me. Fire Those guys.
That's a bit much.. I drive for both and don't decline those rides but what is ur position when your next passenger has an allergic reaction and wants to sue you? Or you now have to beeline to the nearest er bc they can't breathe? If passengers utilized the UberPet feature and Lyft also added that feature, it would minimize cancelled rides for many.. Oh and the passengers in need NEED to utilize it as well so drivers aren't arriving then canceling. It sux and shouldn't happen but ummm no, why force or threaten ppl into something potentially physically & financially harmful to them?
The problem is two-fold. First, educate the drivers on the law. Second, people with pets who falsely claim them as Emotional Support Animals which is *not* the same as Service Animal. The law applies to Service Animals only, not to ESAs.
as well Uber does not supply and tools or funds to purchase tools for animals to ride in the car. i had to cancel on someone who purchased a two hour ride had a huge dog but no carrier & no blanket. i was driving a rental car with a sign that says i am responsible for a $400 cleaning charge if applicable
Sued them!!!!! We are all equal!!!!! Screw lyft and ubber
I use uber pet and I've never been denied.
everybody wants to be a victim today , life's not fare , boo-who , meme
Because the driver knows before they accept the ride. It's in the story if you pay attention
NOT PETS
Because you have common sense to request uber pet, but theres very few of you. Uber pet costs extra so they dont want to pay extra
@soliniv1411 it's just like the ppl that select ubershare and get mad when you detour to pick up another passenger. 🤦🏾♀️
The homeless bring their dogs onto the bus every day and quickly state "they're service animals". All 5 of them apparently. Being pulled in a wagon.
What's your point? Dumb joke.
@@roachtoastiesi think his point is that as long as there are loopholes they will be abused to oblivion
@@roachtoasties You are the joke for not understanding.
Honestly I don’t a person with allergies to be forced to transport animals. I personally don’t have an issue with real service animals. But I worked at Walmart and a “ service animal “ attacked an actual service animal in the store. So get why people don’t want the risk
Some people are allergic to cats and dogs.
You need to read the Americans with disabilities act regarding service animals - please educate yourself
@@JettePorrazzoAllergies and asthma both all.under the ADA, please read the rules before posting next time, thanks!
@@Justnothankyou132 I think you need to re-read it! It actually says that allergies and be allergic to service animal is not a reason to discriminate! In fact you all are a bunch of discriminating a-holes imo
Rideshare is public transportation! If you don't want to work with the public and provide public transportation regardless of being an independent contractor then you're in the wrong business!
Can you open yourself up for big lawsuits and fines for refusing to provide service to someone with a service animal!
I've been a service dog handler since 2006, that makes me the expert.
People with service animals are not entitled! They are disabled people who are working an independent and want to live their life!
So, how did these people get around before Uber and Lyft?
My blind brother and sister-in-law who are both legally blind and rely on Uber and Lyft to get around a lot. And they both have told me about this situation happening to them as well.
Let's put this way....uber.lift should localized a pet person to ride passenger..... unfortunately allergy and fear is a issues too...
I did rideshare in detroit michigan and had extra covers and protection for my car to accommodate people with service animals. I also have ver y bad allergies to dogs. The problem is every person with a dog claimed to be a service aninal when they weren't. Many of the passengers were entitled assholes and their dog/ service animal would make a huge mess, shit and shed in my vehicle making it impossible to clean and the next passenger would complain giving me a violation. My allergic reaction caused me to swell up very bad and sneeze uncontrollably. Some passengers woulld mistake this for being high and complain. i'd still perform my job correct and these passengers would still lie after the ride and claim i discriminated against them in someway for a free ride like most passengers I picked up in Detroit. it may be law to accommodate people with disabilities but they should also be responsible for all damage and fees needed to clean and sanitize the car and bring it back to its original condition and not giving a pass to destroy a persons work/personal vehicle. Uber and lyft is the only scenario ive heard of where its ok to destory my property for another person and then be responsible for fixing it.
If Lyft and Uber were more transparent and notify the driver that the passenger is traveling with a dog then the driver would have the option to accept or not. It's sucks that as a driver you show up only to find out that they have a dog with em. Sure you get an extra 50¢ BUT that doesn't nearly cover the cost to clean the amount of furr they will leave all over my car.
The fact they say driver allergies is not enough to refuse to carry a dog is all you need to know. That was a one-sided hit piece if you ever saw one.
As somone with a physical disability I can attest to the fact that discrimination is alive and well for all of us.
My physical disability is Asthma, set off by pet dander. Cry more please
The hard part about enforcing these “rules” or “laws” (and why Uber hasn’t deactivated its drivers for it) is because technically none of the drivers are considered employees of the company. They’re all independent contractors using their private vehicles. The only service Uber actually provides is acting as the intermediary to connect the passenger and the driver. When you get in a Lyft or Uber vehicle, your service contract is between you and the driver, and they have their right to cancel the ride for whatever reason. This is only enforced when the drivers are actual employees of the company, using company fleet vehicles, and get paid a salary and issued a W-2 for their work.
But as a fellow Uber driver, I would suggest those who drive a hatchback/SUV/Minivan and have any last ounce of decency in your heart for disabled passengers with service animals, to line your trunk with protective covering that you can get for a few dollars, and ask that passenger to board their service animal in the trunk. That will keep the animal secure in place in one part of the vehicle rather than it getting all over the upholstery in the seats.
The first part so accurate
I will drive anywhere for anyone for their dogs cats birds fish as long as I'm getting paid I don't care I can always clean my car after the ride !! I live in Tulsa Oklahoma
There are a lot of foreigners that work for Uber and Lyft that can’t read or speak English. I know for a fact that their family and friends help them with the hiring process. So they have no clue about law of policy. They come to this country hungry and Uber takes advantage of that paying them a low wage so expect more of the same.
Let them request Uber pet and once the fair is completed, Uber reimburse the customer the additional fee for a service animal. If the customers can show proof that it is a legitimate service animal. And everyone wins.
Or it should be a permanent thing on their profile so they don’t have to do it daily
So who's going to pay for the mess that the dog creates in the car
You as the driver. They don't charge those with service animals.
Uber will pay the cleaning fee I've contacted Uber with pictures and stuff after somebody puked in my car they gave me $100 for it to clean up it took me like 5 minutes to clean up the car
Upload your service animal paperwork to the company and make Uber pet included.
@mygoogleyoutube issue is ADA requires no paper work but my state on his license marks him as a special dog...
People with service dogs are treated so poorly. It’s wrong.
Yeah cool.. but no dogs in my car.
Hear hear
"It's illegal, you can't say no" Well tell that to my car payment, gas/charge, and insurance 😂. These are just apps that don't provide a car or pay for the car.
Then don't drive for Uber if you are going to discriminate.
Than you can get fine more money than you can afford. ADA doesn’t play when it comes to discrimination. A heard of restaurant having to closed due to denying a service dog
Also provide free cleaning materials to the drivers and a big blanket or sheet to protect the seats from the dogs. the driver is under pay and has to pay from his pocket which is very unfear .
I used to drive for Lyft, I had rides with service animals in Austin market frequent. The problem I had is rides after having dogs i got reported frequently for having a dirty car and all rides hares expect you to clean right after one ride is unrealistic.
Why can't rideshare make it to let the driver know in advance service Animal is expected so one's that don't want to handle don't have to handle these awkward moments. Yeah you're right drivers are not suppose to not service. But this brings up another issue, the drivers are independent contractors not employees so technically they can regardless of rules set by companies or they are in non compliance of independent contractor model.
Also time to make lyft/Uber Ada rides hare program to handle these type of rides and make them employees this will settle issues on all sides.
I will never again carry Riders with service, or Pet dogs because Uber does not PAY CLEAN FEE, imagine me carrying a Rider with a dog for a fare of $9, and I ended up spending $28 to detail my car because of the mess caused by the dog, I called Uber, and they told me they don't pay cleaning fee, that it is my responsibility to keep my car clean. So I am sorry, I am not discriminating, but if I get to a Rider, and I see a dog, my apologies, I am cancelling the trip. Nobody is getting a Champagne treatment from me, for the price of a gas station fountain drink. So Riders before getting angry with a driver, always ask the driver how much he or she is getting for the trip, even if a rider pays $60 for a trip, the maximum Uber will give that driver is $22, so I as a driver will give you the $22 service, and definitely a service of $60 you paid. When Uber start paying us cleaning fee for service dogs, then we will start accepting those rides
no one wants dog smell in the car. next customer will not take the uber. if they refuse all animals its not prejudice becuase they refuse animal not the person.
That basically the same thing. And they can get fired and fine up $10,000
Let's report on the outrage of drivers canceling rides on *VISUALLY* impaired people as we don't provide CC for *HEARING* impaired people.
Hello
There you go... if people that thinks they are limóns, we have to respect and allowe them to do as they wish... this one will have to be accepted. If not hypocrecy from the goberment.
Uber could easily fix this by having uber pet service where they waive the 5 dollar fee for diasabled people, when a dog damages the car uber does nothing
For driver's who rent their Uber/Lyft vehicle from Hertz ot Avis, the rental agreement prohibits pets of any kind in the vehicle. If a driver transports a pet the car rental companies charge a fine. Some drivers just can't transport a pet even if they wanted to
This shit needs to stop. It’s gotten out of hand. If having a service dog or service animal goes against your religious beliefs or using the “I’m allergic to service animals excuse.”, then you should not be working in the transportation industry.
That is their right.
I would not want a door in my car -- regardless!!
Then you can be fired from working at uber
Im a driver and I was all for picking up riders with dogs but Ive notice their dogs leave alot of hair and bad smells in my truck. Its not worth the hassle of cleaning up after. Some of the dogs hair wont come out and the smell makes the next rider uncomfortable. I just unchecked the pet option.
You realize that service dogs aren’t pets right? Even if you unchecked the pet option you still by your contract that you signed with Lyft or Uber require to take service dogs. Service dogs are considered medical equipment. They can detected when your sugar low and they detected when are about to have seizure. Yea they aren’t pets
I drove Uber and and you have the option to chose to accept dogs or not. When you do it pays maybe $2 more. The problem is that some people take advantage and the don’t order Uber pet and they get in your car and say it’s only a small dog or it’s a service dog. How does a driver know what service dog this is for. Not all people are blind. Some people have hidden disabilities. I’ve had people get in my car and the ride does not say Uber pet and then they tell me it’s a service dog. According to Uber I am not supposed to question someone. In the end I just turn Uber pet off,as I have had dogs piss in my car. There is always a ton of hair left on the back seat when they leave and then another rider gets in the car and says, don’t you clean your car. It’s not as easy as it appears. This story makes sense but in the big picture it’s very one sided. The lady keeps saying it’s a service dog but dogs shed hair and can piss, sh,t, fart etc. The drivers are leaving because they don’t want a dog in the car. It does not matter that it’s a service dog it’s still a dog.
As a service animal owner I understand to pay five dollars extra they need to clean up the car ,they need to pick up more passengers
If I were an Uber driver I’d only want to take fares with service animals/pets.
Well tell them to create an app where u and others who willingly want to will
@@MiiTheProfessaI’ll tell them
They are not denied the services because of their disability, they are denied the ride because of the dog. Uber/Lyft drivers should have the right to decide if they want pets/service animals in their cars. Also, pay the extra fee if you need your service animal.
Charging extra is an ADA violation because it is a form of discrimination.
@@lisafreebairn7736 we need to be considerate and also think about the drivers car. The service to the disable is not the issue, the issue is that the car owner will have to be the one to clean it up (not cool).
@@miroyukithat is exactly the issue.
The problem is not actual service dogs. It’s the entitled people that saying their dog is a service dog when it’s not even an emotional support dog that’s the problem.
The second a passenger tells me I have to do something I would speed off too.
1. It is the government's fault! 2. All service animals MUST be issued ID cards with dogs and owners' names! 3. All disabled owners must be issued special ID cards by DMV that they are disable and accompanied by dogs. 4. All owners must present those cards when they ask to when they are entering any business. Including any transportation. There is nothing discriminating there! It's better for all disabled people. 5. Dogs and only dogs must be registered as service animal! No other animal can do what a trained dog can do. All that BS with snakes, lizards, parrots, pigs, hamsters, etc, as service animals MUST be STOPPED! And stopped by the federal government once and for all! No court should accept any cases from the owners of any animal for not getting permitted to enter if it is not approved service animals.
And another thing. There are special transportation vans that exist for disabled people with plenty of spaces inside where dogs can sit on the floor. Why do the service animal owners not hiring them? Why are drivers' health issues not taken into consideration? Why do drivers should lose time, even day, and money to clean their own vehicles after giving a ride to service dogs? Aren't drivers humans too? Aren't drivers have rights? Until all the above issues are not fixed as such, we will have what we have.
P.S. Will you take a seat on the seat covered with a dog's hair? I won't.
What if the driver is allergic? Or the next passenger is allergic???
What if you are going to a business meeting and show up in dog hair? No one can force anyone to do a service. What they should do, is have indications in the app, that matches the rider with only drivers, who are willing to do so.
The second lady , has 2 dogs. and she is complaining. Pay the drivers more money.
What if a driver has a disability too like a severe allergic reaction to cats and dogs?
A fear of dogs is not a legitime excuse??? What???! I am sorry, but this is ridiculous. This can be traumatizing for the driver, trigger PTSD or get them all into an accident if the dog moves and the driver reacts badly on the wheel, spooked. Ridiculous.
There should be a system that links those riders to only drivers who are dog friendly, to not waste everyone’s time.
As far as I know if you fight with dogs you pay for it , why don’t pay driver extra to clean the car after the trip?
