Thanks for the video tour. My dad served his tour of duty on the Midway from December 1982 to December 1985.his first two years of duty from 1982 to 1983 he was an Airmen was in the S-6 Division then from 1984 to 1985 he was promoted SK3(StoreKeeper Third Class) and was assigned to the S-9 (Supply Department Division)
My wife brought this old veteran( me) for my birthday. It was a amazing day and humbling knowing all the people that bravely served on that proud ship .
Served on the Coral Sea during the 80s. I could almost smell breakfast when you went through the chow hall . I actually liked the dehydrated eggs covered in hot sauce .
I'm there 2-3 times a week now training as a Docent. Really love this amazing historically significant ship. Best part is I get to hang with all the amazing veterans of this ship...and others including aviators. I have a classmate that was a Top Gun aviator and flew f-14 Tomcats. As you walked through I was naming all the spaces - good practice for me - thanks.
Thank you for the video. Midway was my home for two years, 1979 to 1981. It was nice to see some of the areas that I remember. I have been back aboard twice, once before it was refurbished and once in 2006. I would love to go back. I served on five ships and Midway was my favorite. Of the five three are now razor blades and one serves in Turkey. Again, thank you.
what a great set up it is so much like being on board your self.. i could show my grand kid what i was alway talking about. maybe other s will do it. like uss new jersey we are going there in 2024 please show them how to do it...great job everyone....
LOL! I saw my old rack from 1985 @ 32:00.Funny thing; I NEVER saw almost any of those other spaces on the tour. Sure didn't recall the First Class mess being located where it said it was. I thought it was off from the AFT mess decks...
It’s also crazy to think that, if this ship was thrown into a dry dock for a few months, it could be out defending our country again, and it STILL would be a better carrier than most countries have today (cough cough admiral kiznetsov lmao😂👍)
It’s sad to think that all the other Essex class ships that looked identical (mostly) to this ship are either now refrigerators and pop cans, or at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean 😢 I know it’s a blessing that we managed to save 5 of them, and I also know we can’t save every single warship, 1, because our coastlines would be chalked full of unused ships, to the point of being unusable, and 2, because even if we did manage to save all warships with some sort of prestige due to battles won, we wouldn’t have enough money to keep them all in museum condition .. they’d all just rot away slowly, like us Texas did before she got 100,000,000 dollars worth of reconditioning It’s just a shame that we throw these hulks away like they’re nothing.. uss nevada is a prime example of a ship that damn well should have been preserved.. she went through hell during the pearl harbour attack.. hundreds of sailors died in her hull, and she was literally raised from her grave, like a mid 20th century Lazarus, repaired and pressed back into service to show the Japanese that even our ships that were considered destroyed beyond repair are still capable of returning from the dead and killing everything in front of it, like the reaper himself .. yet, at the end of the war, we painted her completely red and dropped a nuke on her head like she meant absolutely nothing (which, to the admiralty was probably true.. all she represented at that point was gunnery target experience).. a ship like that deserved to wear and show off her war medals to the country she served and protected for a few decades 😢😞
As I understand it you are referring to the three dimensional address of each space or compartment I visited, painted on adjacent walls. I assume these were there but I did not know to look for them. Thanks for the pointer I will look for and include these any more videos I do like this one in the future.
FYI I also recorded a time-lapse of my visit to this aircraft carrier in 360° VR that you might be able to see some of the bulls-eyes in if you look around (use mouse on PC or finger on mobile to look in any direction): ua-cam.com/video/jtsp2LLCPD8/v-deo.html
I am sorry it made you dizzy Kim! Thanks for your feedback. They were about to close to I had to rush around! I have another recording of this same ship using a different camera from earlier the same day that you might like more: ua-cam.com/video/jtsp2LLCPD8/v-deo.html. It's a time-lapse and recorded in 360 degrees so you can look in any direction, maybe making it easier to view.

@@AdamHems over my 32 Year Navy Career I deployed on 13 different Carriers. The Nimitz Class were the Best.
