Studer's timbre corresponds exactly to Elsa as I imagine her. She has an aristocratic splendor, a certainty in her interpretation, a legato that melts and resists every temptation to make the role more dramatic than it should be. And Abbado also conducts this to die for.
Both are magnificent here, but Waltraud Meier surely deserves to go down in history as one the greatest Wagnerian interpreters and singers that ever lived.

I think her timbre fits the character well as it is at once bright but with dark overtones. It seems appropriate for Ortrude to have a vocal profile fitting a still energetic woman young in spirit if not in age. Ortrude's character might be a bit more advanced in age and experience than the younger Elsa, but she has plenty of fire in her.

The first part of ACT 11 LOHENGRIN is very dark and sinister..it is also in my opinion Wagner at his best.

unnatural and insincere, plus the annoying vibrato
Fram Meyer is a real zwischen , ja wohl.I dont like her nor do i like Miss Studer.
She always had this fast vibrato when it came to the high notes. And they weren't always secure either.
