Set Western music on a new course. I took 2 senior-level elective courses in Music in a PhD program (long story). Opera and 20th century music. This Opera figured prominently in both courses.

What a legend Waltraud Meier is. The looks on the choir members' faces says a lot. Professional singers mesmerized, stunned, entranced, with an absorbed smile.
I am grateful to have heard her sing the Wesendonck Lieder in concert. This woman knows how to captivate every soul in a room.

I take my hat off the Wagnerian singers! It’s definitely something you can or can’t do. The power it requires to sing above the music is incredible.

❤ The production is what you call perfect. However, I would like to add, the enormous amount of work involved in creating such a sound creates colour, space, form and balance. I am very moved by how engaged the orchestra is. Be the only one lives into and can see all the way into the soul and originates its power in an element that gives us listeners - what they themselves do not get, because, they work to create - what we get. Learning to listen is learning to linger. You see Wagner, you feel his spirit. Tragedy yes. It is what we are as humans. Many classical enthusiasts make the fatal mistake of comparing who is the best. Instead of watching and listening to the interaction. Many productions - especially classical records or LP's
has been produced over many years. Some up to 7 years. Before it goes into production. Striving for perfection can be destructive, as mistakes are not mistakes, but provide a dynamic human content. The classical world is not to satisfy its audience by proving its perfection. The art of being alive. Unfortunately, this world has lost so many talented musicians and singers because it was ruined by bad talk and publicity, by people who do not understand or are capable of dynamic humanity and strive to turn art into a kind of sporting competition. And saying "the best" is not nice. Because I can say that Copenhagen has the best Wagner voices in the world. That's not the point. Even those who qualify as the best do not like that role at all. So if Opera is to survive, it is a strong necessity to open up to empathy and the ability to see the joy it is. Anyone can, when they have their heart and soul. Thank you for being able to experience this living space and thank you UA-cam for making it possible for everyone to listen. Oh, if only we could get the very young involved, and let them play with words, thoughts and uplift others, instead of being derogatory and offensive or the bullies. A good unity is to lift, bring out the rare talents we have. We have many wagons, but unfortunately we are unable to bring them forward. Be aware and take care. All are good enough.❤

I recently came across it reading Spengler's Decline of the West. There is are so many references to art. You really need to delve in to achieve a full understanding of the text. He keeps referring to Tristan over and over. So I grabbed my head phones and dove in. Moved to tears and so thankful to know this beauty exists. Art stands on its own despite the channel. ❤

Bravo to the Berlin audience for holding absolute stillness in the hall after the cutoff, until DB dropped his hands. Even the Maestro himself seemed reluctant to let go of the ephemeral moment. In the States, it seems there is invariably one lout who is compelled to scream "Braaaavaaaaaaaa!" in the split-second after the cutoff.

    Just love Tristan and Isolde!💖
The music and the voice together are incredible!🤯
I always wonder if Wagner heard this music in his mind and heart and was driven to compose the score?
Likewise, I have the same thoughts about other great composers.
Perhaps it is the difference between 'genius' and the rest of us who can only wonder about it.
    Thank you Mr. Wagner.

, I would imagine that Wagner heard everyghing in his head, and was able to transpose it to sheet music.
What is so amazing is his capability on some of his orchestral compositions where he was able to create up to 4 melodies and counter melodies running concurrently without any discords. A prime example of that technique was Maestrosingers.

At the exact moment when Waltraud hits her highest, and most powerful note, the camera switches from a close up of her, to a long shot of the orchestra. While Waltraud sings with mellifluous gut-wrenching beauty, the camera is on the balding heads of the old men in the orchestra. We live in a fallen world where nothing is ever perfect. Greatest soprano, greatest soprano aria, crappy camera work.

Extraordinary. I happened on this today totally out-of-the-blue. As it began, I immediately noticed the camerawork here is sheer genius.
Meier and Barenboim shown displaying (without obstruction) what made/makes them the artistic lightening rods and spell-casters that they are.
Every single performative detail here is individually completely fascinating and yet somehow totally subsumed into one coherent and potent whole.

Exquisite beyond all delicious anguish. Bravo. Brava. Bravi. Liked / subd / notif / playlists. When Meier was paired with the Great Placido Domingo in Die Walkure, it was so magical as to be nearly unbearable. Mil gracias.

Note how Barenboim opens his mouth at the point where Meier is to begin singing. The ultimate visual que.
