Keith's analogy to learning how to play chess is 100% right on. That's the best comparison I've heard in learning how to play the blues. The simple basics take a lifetime to master. But I think the best way to learn how to phrase is to listen to the great Masters, like Freddie, BB and Albert King.
Keith is great! After 30 years that I try to ply I need periodically to go back to the basic, and every time restarting you became aware of something you didn’t catch before. Thanks Keith
Very cool. Trying to learn lead after not touching a guitar for 29 years. I am getting scales. And licks but this is it. Phrasing. Is the ticket. Thanks
This is really great to learn from. Keith has lots of subtle things in his playing that makes the sound so smooth. It's a nice challenge to learn this.
The best lesson. No use just running up and down blues scales all day and adding in random 9th and 7th chords. The key to this style is all in the phrasing.
wow! that's cool! Interesting because i'm an intermediate player and i play stuff like this all the time but i thought i sounded boring because i'm not playing a zillion scales really fast etc.but this dude has encouraged me to keep playing what i feel as opposed to what impressive to others (well, myself really).Hard to be objective sometimes with your own playing.
speed will come with time, u should keep working on it. Because it will make you more free to express yourself. But the important thing is the musicality of your playing, as u said. It is non-negotiable, it is THE point!
Less is definitely more, just enough to have some fun. Take your time and it will come. From the fingers to the ear, the sound will be clear, from the ears to the finger, the sound will linger. Make the guitar become a singer and have something to say..... Thanks.
I washing this video several times and until today I got the second part. it is very nice training I like. I will work with this video more time. I wish you put a tab., thank you.
You are trying to run before you can walk! If you learn the pentatonic shape 1 and then progress to the other 4 shapes and "noodle around with them", then after you have practiced a bit more it will get easier!
at 2:55 he says it makes it sound like your saying something....all that means is phrasing the words...on 3:13 no rules on what note or what beat to start on....my hommie has a channle dave the prick, he teaches lessons but doesnt understand about prashing the words to the song, which is the whole point of any instrument
Yes, it's something that I've been doing for years. i think you misunderstood the kid. He wants to use the same backing track the guy was using without him soloing over it. The kid, Jim, asked for backing track and you brought tabs into this. So, don't try it make like I don't know what I'm talking about since you clearly misunderstood the first kid.
Duh! Tabs are the notes or number if you don't read musical notation. Back tracks are the basic song for soloing over, All I am saying is use your ears and your eyes! Transcribe! You know what that means right Billy?
Doesn't work for beginners. Listen to recordings instead. This guy does not add anything. No tabs. No nodes. Nothing. Listen to B.B. King and Muddy Waters. This is BS. Sorry Miles, you have to do better than this.

Forever blues! Yeah...

Is this backing track online anywhere? I'd love to have it to practice with.
How do I get that tone on the intro??
the blues is easy to play but hard to feel
"jimi hendrix"
cool!
it's very hard to find the notes he playing, it seems i'm wasting my time, but first part is informative and playing in rythms is useful

You know tabs and backing tracks are two different things, right?

wish he would step out and show where the notes are. Also explaining about what keys he is using. Otherwise good video.

lol cant play any of these
Why the hell do you need tabs for this? Keith is basicaly spoon feeding you.

it so easy to criticize what you don't understand. Get better and this will make sense
