Yes, PCD started out as a burlesque troupe, but the only girl that actually danced in the viper room that was in the main group was Carmit. 1) Please don't jump in a year-old argument if you don't even know the main issue, which was, Nicole was the last person selected to be in PCD (the recording group) and she was NOT why PCD made it to the main stage (Carmen Elektra was). 2) Carmit was in PCD WAY before Ashley came along. Actually, it would make sense to put a dancer in a recording group, which is why hardly ANY of the girls could actually sing well other than Melody and Nicole. Commonly, Ashley/Kim would be put in the group for dancing, especially at the time we're in now. They needed dancers to add a little flavor to the group and make them POP. It's called marketing. People fall for gimmicks, so them just standing around singing would be boring. Half the artists out now can't REALLY sing, anyway(Auto-Tune).
There's a REASON nicole's the lead!!! The others, aside from melody, are mediocre singers at best. They're professional dancers who ended up in a singing/performance group whereas nicole is a classically trained singer. Mel has a lovely voice but she doesnt have the same "quality" that nic has...nicole's just..a star. She has "that thing" and THATS why shes the one pulling the weight and fronting the group. Without her the PCD would still be in the viper room, she DESERVES to be up front :)
