Not gonna lie, when I first watched this show almost 4 years ago I wasn't expecting it to ever be renewed or to ever get so many seasons that they would kiss... LOOK AT US NOW! Season 4, episode 4 my beloved. I thought it was so well done. I really loved that they gave us their whole backstory (finally!) and then spent an entire episode on William getting the courage to finally tell her. I'm guessing there were some scheduling issues which is why they had to do it like this but I honestly think they did a great job with the episodes that they had William/Stuart for. I would love one final season with William returning to England and becoming a private detective alongside her.

That was beautiful and really captured the longing they both feel for the other. I haven't seen the second half of season 4 yet, but, after William's coma, I really thought Eliza had awakened to her love for William as he had already awakened to his love for her. It's devastating to learn that he is leaving her, even if it's supposedly temporary. For me, what makes the show is their undeniable chemistry. When William/Stuart isn't in an episode, I tend to lose interest in the story because, by herself, or even with what's-his-name (nash??), her character feels flat and uninteresting. It's the spark with William, whether in a romantic moment or just when they're clashing, that provides the fire in the belly of the
show's premise. Please let Season 5 be William's return and Eliza's realization that she loves and needs him. Since he loves an unconventional woman, why can't they just have an unconventional marriage?? It would certainly never be dull in that household!!

It is not easy to be a strong-minded woman in any era. Eliza's intelligence and strength is trapped in trauma. The trauma of loss, which has forced her to be hyper-independent. She has not grieved properly. She can't get outside of her head and lean in to someone else. Too much fear of abandonment. It takes a strong and patient man to break through that barrier, but he succeeds, he will have the most fierce loyalty of a queen.

All this...! If only the show would actually GO INTO this kind of thing. Bc yes, Eliza is SO closed off (to romance, to dependence, to a personal life), deflects nearly every attempt anyone makes to broach the topic of her non-professional future (we still have no idea what her feelings are regarding things like marriage or children), and whatever she feels for William more than friendship she's compartmentalized away so adamantly she was trying to pretend they had a sibling dynamic, lol.
Character-wise, there's a lot to dig into here, the whys of it all, but they just... don't, really. I know MS&tD is more procedural than introspective character drama, but this is the CENTRAL, LEAD character, and I don't think they give us nearly enough insight into her emotional internality.

Amazing point. Which makes that interview with Rachael New more nauseating that they are introducing a new romance in Season 5. How in the world does that make sense? If she couldn't open up to William, a man she's known forever and trusts, because of her trauma. How is she just suddenly going to in Season 5. It's appalling really. I'm so irritated at the writers.

So beautiful and yet so heartbreaking. The love is so palpable between them. How she can let him go without saying how she feels is so sad. Those words and feelings for William are bottled up inside her somewhere I just know it. Thank you for this video. I loved it!

I got my kiss, but now I have to have more. I've binged the entire season and am irritated I now have to wait till end of 2024 at least before we come back to them.
I hate screenwriters who don't want to see Eliza and William together. That's why the actor Stuart Martin left. He was the linchpin of the show. Without him, Eliza's character is in danger of becoming annoying if it's allow her to behave like a touchy-feely child.
By the way, your video is just amazing. Even if it breaks my heart so much more about their love story.

I saw all the thumbnails for the edits for Miss Scarlet and the duke but I didn't want to catch up bc I had a lot of other shows I was watching. So I (not so) accidentally spoiled myself to see what was going on. It was then that I knew I just couldn't hold off to watch season 4. And now, I NEED season 5. Eliza and William need to be together!

At least we hope so! I blame the writers for thinking that any man treating a woman the way William treats the Eliza character is *good thing*, when it's incredibly dysfunctional, wrong and abusive!
