I love watching this documentry. It was my father Cal Newman who wrote and sings the songs about The Saltings. I can remember him not always fancying going down there for the gigs. He did though, not sure where he played mind. Cal passed away on August 12th 2014.
I grew up in nearby Lansawel Crescent but just after the saltings were demolished. Still go there now up the mountain with my dog, really brings back memories with the old co-op and the park.
I spent my childhood living in Heol Morfa - from about 1960 to 1969 - It really was a good place to be brought up as a child - Plenty of adventurous places around that area for us kids to have fun in - It didn't start to go bad until the 1970s - I wouldn't change my childhood spent in Heol Morfa for the world - there were some really nice and good people living there, the block of flats I lived in was kept clan and tidy at all times - And I had some of the best friends a kid could ever want: Gareth, Billy, and Adrian
I was brought up in the Saltings, im very proud of my upbringing and my parants, its 2013 now and my company is doing well, thanks to the friends and people of my day. I can associate with all sorts of people and make judgement for spoilt brats that had it all, I am a Neath boy and i don't forget where im from, the saltings made me who I am today :)
My bampa and nan lived there for years untill they moved Stephen and Melanie Morgan they loved it there but we still live in the area but sadly my bampa died 9 years ago but still rember the stories he told me about the place
I lived there until I was 11. Then I went to a "Residential" School. Heol Morfa was the safest of places, with the kindest of People. We were the "Kings of the Castle" . It was the quiet end! Peter, thank you for such a true, and great comment.

My home from the age of 0 to 18 yrs {off and on} Sadly I stole Blackjacks and Fruit Salad from the boys club. In their kindness, they made me the youngest committee member. I loved being the DJ, at the weekly disco I had turntables. Ha ha.
I live in Llansawel crescent and the boys club is still there my uncle Ian Morgan and the football boys own it its so different from years ago my family the Morgans have lived around the area for years xx
@@bethanymorgan4980 I went to Hengwrt School, with, David Morgan. My Best Friend, in Many Many Memories of Fun. If Stephen was, Ian's Dad. Then there is a connection there somewhere. Morgans and Smiths have a Great History. Kindest Wishes from Leeds.
lastoftheurgents1965 Hi, glad you asked about the song. My father 'Cal Newman' who died Aug 2014 wrote, sung and played this wonderful song. unfortunately there is no copy of it anywhere. He was commissioned to do this back in the day. 😎

Thanks for the great knowledge of the song. Love from Leeds.
I really don't know why they continue to build flats down there when they just end up knocking them down again.
