- Sorry for the extra shaky camera work at times in this one, hard to keep the camera still when in a moving vehicle. But we didn't want to press our luck and get out of the vehicle in the middle of a major rail yard. Wouldn't want to be arrested for trespassing and labeled a terrorist. So with that out of the way...
After a train show Sunday (the 18th of March), we took a drive through the locomotive facility at UP's Neff Yard in the Bottoms of Kansas City, MO. GP38-2 #556 is focused on a little bit more in this video for a special reason...
First, I have a model of it and after seeing it Sunday, I need to update mine with a yellow sill stripe, piping running the length of the long hood, an extra set of exhaust stacks and various other details. The second reason this unit is a bit special is that it was one of just 60 GP38-2s UP bought back in the 70s. It's original number was #2056 which is the number Athearn used on their original UP GP38-2. UP was one of the few railroads to order them with the larger 3000 gallon fuel tank, SP was another with the bigger tanks and look where they ended up!
There will be another one of these coming up this week, but it will be at the Kansas City Southern locomotive facility which we also did a drive by on the same day. So stay tuned for more, and thanks fro watching.
I don't know how many times I've been on the other side of that fence (to the north) and wanted to get in to see this! Thanks man
15 years ago a sd38 or 40 w/no turbo was working the hump.
it was numbered '844'
They sure have some nice power in this yard! Your camera work is not that bad, it's good for being from a car
Great video!
What engine is that at 1:04?? weird cab!?
My home state of Kansas is the best place to railfaning, along with Missouri, and Texas
Nice!
