At long last, I bring to you an introduction to the Blackletter or 'Gothic' hand.
In this video I'll give a quick overview of the history of the hand, a peek at the full alphabet and then get into the first set of letters for you to learn; the 'Closed' letters.

I've watched several hundred videos on black letter and yours is by far the best as far as going into detail about how it's done. great video.
the best video on basics of blackletters, love how you patiently showed the formation of each letter and the repetition helped very much.

After my love affair with uncial, I have given in and decided it is time to learn blackletter. This video had been a great help. Looking forward to the rest of the series.
Lovely instructional video. You're so kind and soft spoken; a wonderful teacher. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Good going, thanks for clear separation of letter groups. A real help, especially when combined with practical demos. of each letter. Each description done at a pace easy to follow especially for people learning the " architecture " of each letter. Thank you. You are the professor extraordinaire of Blackletter.

please give workseet if you have in pdf...
where can I get those guidelines?
Because I'm new at this, I would like to know, where can we get your blackletter worksheets. It would be nice if you were giving us a printable copy of your worksheet. Thanks in advance!
When you gonna upload more
What kind of nib is that?
I'm going to have to add you to my ASMR Playlist. I do want to learn Blackletter enough to do it without a guide, you are probably not ideal. I don't want to go to sleep while trying to learn it.
How do I create your template practice sheet you are writing on?
The best way to do it is to;
1. rule out those vertical lines first in increments of about 5mm
2. measure about 1cm from the top of your page and draw a horizontal line.
3. using whichever sized nib you are using, hold the nib vertically and draw those three alternating square shapes you see on the left hand side. when the ink dries, measure that distance and draw the second horizontal line that distance below the first line.
4.doing the same thing with the nib as last time except measuring out about 5 nib-widths, mark out and rule the second line to form the x-height
4. repeat step 3 to create
the descender line
6. repeat that process for as many full sets of lines as you can fit on the page.
I tend to just draw one 'master copy' then photocopy it so that every practise sheet is the same =)
Thanks man. Will do :)
Very soft voice. You could do ASMR videos well.
Am I not creating ASMR already? ;)
hello
Good video mate.. but why are you whispering?
sepioify it's an asmr video£~
Pushka Gib'en no it's not!
He is not whispering it's his style of talking and he soft talker.
Hate to break it to you buddy but including elements of ASMR was an intentional part of this series!
Pushka Gib'en u were right ayeee
what about the letter "b" .......
That letter is grouped with the 'Ascender letters' i.e. l, f, h, k and long S, and I'l cover those in an upcoming video soon!
@@ScribeLife could you make a video explaining how to draw that sheet you're using?
i cannot hear the nib scraping the paper >:(
WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT
