- Welcome back to the Scribe Life series! In this episode I introduce you to the first of the 'hands' or scripts for you to learn - Uncial. I give a quick overview of the letters in this hand, then perform a stroke by stroke demonstration of how several of these letters are formed.
This was very helpful, thanks for sharing! Are you making more videos?
It never occurred to me how similar the letters end up being when you break them into these base categories.
Please do a series on copperplate next!!
In each group of letters, the style applies to all of the letter symbols or just to the ones you have written down in the diagram? By that I mean if for example the letter "A" can be written in the circular style or is it just circular & diagonal?
+RedBlade3 These groupings of letter type are simply identifying the main type of stroke they use, it's not necessarily a prescriptive separation of the letters and some letters have strokes that belong to different groupings. This is just the easiest arrangement I could find that allows you to learn letters in groups of similar shape rather than switching between strokes as you learn the whole alphabet.
In answer to your question, the 'A' has one or two variations ways of being written, but both use that single diagonal stroke. I will demonstrate how it is written in a video that is coming up soon!.
It's been 2 years, is there a chance you can see my comment and answer my question please ?
Am in love with type of calligraphy, but just looking at someone's writing is not enough. Is there any website I can download a guide or traceable script from ?
I feel sad reading this comment ... I hope you found your answer already and continued with your calligraphy journey. There's plenty of helpful calligraphy enthusiasts in Instagram.
I can't get the thick to thin
Make sure your broad nib is in an angle and you don't change that when you create your letters.
