A couple basic things to know: they can only throw straight to their side or backwards , kick can go forward , play dosent stop after tackle they just continue , the ‘touchdown’ is called a try and is worth 5 points, after every try you get a conversion worth 2 points which is basically like a football free kick to kick it between the posts for additional points.
if you score the try between the posts it makes it easier for the conversion as the conversion is taken in line from where the try was made (which is why they try to go that way when possible )

@Mystic gamer That's why World rugby are changing the Northern hemisphere and Southern hemisphere seasons to coincide in future years.
Southern hemisphere teams have had a very long, drawn out season playing club, super rugby, npc, 4 nations, bledisloe, International matches then finally a European tour where they play all of the six nations.
The fact 6 nation teams in the midst of a season at arguably their peak can only just sneak out a single win at home against a battered, well travelled team at the end of a drawn out hard fought season with the odd injury casualty this long of a season dictates only further proves the disparity, laughable so..
It's not uncommon for NZ to drop a few games against leading teams trialling combos and tactics in the year prior to a world cup.
NH teams can give themselves a pat on the back for a single win and focus on making it out of their pools first come world cup..
NZ vs Ireland or South Africa final. Nz taking the cup home again

I have watched a few videos about Americans reaction to rugby as I use to play (only AMATEUR)
and there are two reason they still try and stop someone even if they are behind the tryline.
1 if you tackle someone behind the tryline and stop them from touching the ball onto the ground it is not a try.
2 after the try you are awarded a "conversion" kick at goal. The kick is taken from a point in line with where the ball was grounded for the try, as near or as far from the goal-line as the kicker desires. the ball is NOT place in the center.
the helmets they wear are only made of fabric some player wear them to protect their ears.

The term Soccer comes from Socker. Socker was the British nickname for association football, people either referred to it as Socker or football for short, Americans did the same with American Football and just called it Football for short like we did with association football. The term Socker or soccer to describe the game is older than the use of the term football to describe it as football as we know it today (association football) is not the same as football, it’s what’s known as a code of football, like rugby is a code of football, there are many codes of football. American Football is a code of football, it took its origins from the rugby code though not the association football code, as did rugby league, you can throw Canadian football in there, Aussie rules football in there, Gaelic football too.

Tacklers go for the body to try to wrap up both man and ball, maybe even make them drop it forwards (a knock-on and therefore a scrum with turnover of the ball).

The rugby helmet is primarily to prevent cauliflower ear, which is a common and unsightly affliction caused by rough handling around the head in scrums, rucks and mauls. It also gives a limited amount of protection against head injury. Sometimes you will see props and forwards wearing a narrow tight head band wrapped around the head and over the ears instead. I think that in the early days of American football the players wore something similar but now replaced by a metal helmet.

Not going to read through the hundreds of comments to see if someone else has posted these three major differences between US football & Rugby League.
    1. A forward pass is a no no. Not even slightly forward.
    2. You can only tackle the man with the ball. This business of tackling players without the ball is absolutely not on.
    3. In order to score a "try" [touchdown] the player must have control of the ball & the ball must actually touch the ground all at the same time. All three, ground, ball & player must be in contact with each other in order for it to be a "try". All of this must be done between the end of the playing field & and the 'dead ball' line, a short distance beyond.
There are many other differences of course, but these three stood out in your video.

Another thing you gotta remember about Rugby is there is non of that stoppage time that you get in American football... You know in American football how the stop the game every 10 seconds? Nope... In rugby you get one half time of fifteen minutes and then you're straight back into it.
So it's like American Football but with no pads and you're running consistently for 80 minutes... You have to basically be a body builder and a marathon runner at the same time.

There are no "plays" in rugby. You learn the rules, you make it up as you go along. You "play" the game in front of you... not from a book of set moves.
The name is "rugby football"... you kick the ball as often as you like.
    You can only pass backward.
The ball must touch the ground to score a try. So tackling after the try line is allowed.
The helmets are cloth and are there to stop their ears getting torn off.
Some of those men are 6ft8 and 20+ stone running 11s 100m, multiple times, in 80 minute games (80 play time with the clock stopped between fouls, penalties and injuries)

antony aiken ok so in my school we had a play called pigdog for example. Pigdog works by missing out the inside centre, who would then overlap the outside centre giving us an overload if the opposing centres didn’t follow the overlap. We practised it, along with other plays in training, and used it in games when the scrum half called pigdog out as he pulled the call out of the scrum.

My grandson plays American football for an academy near London and will soon be going to America to study and play your football, it's so exciting and he was worried I would miss him too much but I just want him to go out and do stuff. If you think this is rough you should watch rugby league, it's mainly played in the north and it's really dirty. Remember, when they are tackled, the game continues, it doesn't stop. They have to get as near to the posts as possible, because the 2 points after kick is taken in line with where the try was put down. It's not taken from in front of the posts like NFL

    Rugby:
Tackles: below the shoulder and above the knee. Can't dump a player down or shoulder charge, have to go with the tackled player.
Pass: goes laterally and back. Can't pass forward even 5 inches in front of passing player.
Score: Try-grounding the ball with control on or over the try line(5 points)
Conversion-after a successful try you kick the ball from the ground (on a tee) through the goal post(2 points)
Penalty goal kick- same as conversion but earn 3 points.
Dropgoal-drop from hand and kick as it bounces up through the goal post(3 points)
Scrums-8 players(forwards) form a pack(800-1000kg) huddle and contest for the ball pushing with shoulders in contact. Happens a lot when you drop the ball forward or knock on.
Ruck-clearing and protecting the ball after a tackle so play can continue. Shielding the ball from turnovers(steal)
Maul-huddle together protecting the ball and also pushing forward to gain ground while on your feet.
Offload- passing the ball from a tackle while standing or before 3 seconds if you on the ground.
Chip or box kick- kicking the ball forward for you to recover and keep or kicking it for someone else but they have to be behind the kicker before he kicks it.
And you are not allowed to block players from tackling the ball carrier,if you are carrying the ball prepare yourself to be tackled.
These a few basic methods used in rugby. Cheers

Good to see Americans enjoying the gentleman's sport.
I played for club and school around the time American football was introduced to our Tv's. Loved it!
Pick a classic match to watch.
For total carnage, look up the Tuilangi brothers (I think that's how you spell it) they are brutal.

    Scoring in Rugby Union:
Try (cross the try line and place the ball down): 5 points
Conversion (place kick after a try, taken in line with where the try was scored, ball must go between the uprights and over the cross bar): 2 points
Penalty (like a conversion but taken from where the infringement happened): 3 points
Drop Goal (drop kick in open play): 3 points.

best thing of all about rugby is, you know your team is good if you score a try because of plenty of phases of passing backwards (which is the only way you're allowed to pass)
whereas in football you can literally just throw the bal to your teammate who's standing by the touchdown line.

The videos show both Rugby Union (15 man a team) and Rugby League (13 man a team) and different rules and plays. Union has line outs, mauls and scrums. League has scrums and tackling.
They have different scoring system etc. Both tough games.

In Footy, It's called a try not a "touchdown"

The reason they dive into the end zone is because their point after kick is taken from a point inline with where the ball is " downed " in the end zone . You'll see a guy cross into the end zone and turn to try and get lined up with the goal posts before downing the ball. The play ends when the ball is downed , not when it crosses the goal line. The " in-your-face " play is when you cross the goal line untouched and place the ball dead center in the end zone. You can still lose the ball if you don't down it and the defenders can run it back out again if they still it from you.
