I'm French. French is my momther tongue. I had a girlfriend from Quebec. It requires me a lot of attention to follow what they say. Don't be depressed They have a very peculiar accent. And they speak about places from Canada I don't know about.
The Joual accent of Montréal's really difficult to understand, but the rest of Québec's pretty easy, especially la ville de Québec. If you want to try a really difficult accent, try Nouveau Brunswick.
@@jeffburdick869 I would say yes and no. I studied the phonology of English, both American and British and I've lived in both countries. It is still very subjective because I'd never really quantified those differences. 1- if you compare the accents in the interview and continental standard French, it is the same difference, more or less, than between British Received Pronunciation and Standard American. 2- If you compare southern French accent with, say, Sherbrooke accent, then the difference is more like between Mancunian and a deep Midland American accent. If people are not familiar with the other's accent, it sounds like two separate languages.
@@CyrilleParis I took French 101 and my professor was from France. He went to visit Quebec during one of our breaks and he said he'd speak French to the people there, but the Quebecois would reply to him in English. I found that very interesting.
Régine speaks flawless French and English. There is a touch of South Shore accent to (probably) both, but so slight that you would have to live in the Montreal region and really pay attention to notice it.
Don't worry, it's because French people from Canada have a very special pronunciation. I'm french, and sometimes it's hard for me to understand what they're saying when they speak fast. Keep learnin dude :)
@julienalexandre ok first of all OUR french is NOT a bad French so please do not confuse us! it's more or less like and English from Australia or from New Zealand.
Your hope is granted, I'm french and, of course, any Quebequois speaks Québéquois, not only French with accent but their own expressions, like old French.
@allnightdwight I am not badmouthing Australia or New Zealand so chill out dude! No, I didnt feel like saying English from America...
This is the most I've ever heard Régine speak, and I don't even understand it. French 2 just does not help with this, haha. It's really fun to watch though :)
l'interviewer posait les pires questions sérieux .. t'oublies pas d'où tu viens.. he was just making ignorant assumptions about the band and you could tell it was aggravating Régine
Anglos learning french in Québec should just keep trying to learn about all the different kinds of french here. Like the wild variety of English you might encounter in a Calgary mall or a rural Ontario coffee shop. Anglos do not notice how varied english is because they usually know only one language and in generally have little awareness of it. Québec french is full of english syntax in places like Montreal because the kids are all so bilingual and surrounded by anglos like you.
It ain't proper French, it's Canadian French. This is more or less like Jamaïcan or Indian English for you guys : exotic but still understandable :-) Great gig last Wednesday in Marseilles! Arcade Fire forever!
2:18 she says no..... Man i speak french so well :-)
Régine is so adorable! She went to my high school!
HUH¿.???!?!?!? HOLY MOLY 😭😭😭😭😭
She's cute even when you can't understand a word she's saying lol.
You didn't understand "non"??🫣😆

Is the difference more significant than the English spoken in the UK and the English spoken in the US?

@@CyrilleParis I have no issues understanding Mancs. Some of the Scottish accents though...I'm just like...was that English??
there is something sooooo sexy about win butler omfg
I didn't understand a word, but it's 8 minutes of my life you can keep! :)
Very pretty language too. I've always thought that.
Régine speaks flawless French and English. There is a touch of South Shore accent to (probably) both, but so slight that you would have to live in the Montreal region and really pay attention to notice it.
Je aime Arcade Fire !!
Ohh...Thank you!!
I don't understand a shit. Still great interview, they're Arcade Fire!!
Don't worry, it's because French people from Canada have a very special pronunciation. I'm french, and sometimes it's hard for me to understand what they're saying when they speak fast.
Keep learnin dude :)
Elle est charmante et naturelle. J'aime bien son attitude.
I seen Jacques Villeneuve in the video
The Taschereau Boulevard, Main st from her hometown, Brossard
@MrElectricdude sure... my pleasure! ;)
The "ne" is not always dropped. I do say the "ne" if I talk formally, but between friends I may drop it.
I wanna learn french so bad, im canadiab so itd be great to open up doors to a french demographic.
@Inkblot1218 I'm french... It is not that easy to understand for me. The canadian accent is very strong and the language is a bit different.
@Boddah45
@julienalexandre ok first of all OUR french is NOT a bad French so please do not confuse us! it's more or less like and English from Australia or from New Zealand.
Damn I love french.
@BehindTheSea29 Regine grew up in Quebec
Régine is sooooo cute!
@Ruby95v me too.. and I speak it! :P
She was born in Montreal and grew up on the south shore, I sure hope she has a Quebecois accent.
Your hope is granted, I'm french and, of course, any Quebequois speaks Québéquois, not only French with accent but their own expressions, like old French.
@musicandWriting77 I think you mean 'jamais' instead of 'ne' ... 'jamais'. The 'ne' is almost always dropped in spoken French. Vive Arcade Fire!
frickin' camera keeps moving. Nowadays we have tripods.
Hey, he has the album art I have!!! (the parking lot)
Franz Morin-Mor haha dafuq yes ;p
oh my god...I'm glad to speaking english and german...but french =)
Régine est tellement cute
3:06 Est-ce Jacques Villeneuve ?
3 years of French in high school and I learn POOP! *depressed*
What is Régine shouting at 2.26??
Laura Hoch She's shouting "Le boulevard Tashereau!" because he said they've both been raised near that boulevard
@AnnaBananax2 Well I didn't hear him...
@MrElectricdude learn! :P
@musicandWriting77 jamais pas is incorrect

Je me demande si j'ai deja rencontrer Regine alors...
@ispyonu20 teach me? lol.
Quebec french is proper french thank you.
ugh! I wish I knew how to speak French :(
This is the most I've ever heard Régine speak, and I don't even understand it. French 2 just does not help with this, haha. It's really fun to watch though :)
Regine Chassagne is so hot!
l'interviewer posait les pires questions sérieux .. t'oublies pas d'où tu viens.. he was just making ignorant assumptions about the band and you could tell it was aggravating Régine
@xdestroymecarefully looool... u have to learn French so you understand what she's sayin! :P
REGINE OUR HAITIAN SIGNER
Un eug de groupeu hahaha
I wish they didn't speak so fast ... XD. My meager grade-nine French didn't suffice.
same with american interview, or english as well: they speak too fast for my English school level...Oh I'm French by the way!
You didn't apply yourself enough, tbh.
0:54 Marc-André Grondin
0:57 Anne-Marie Withenshaw
singer, not signer, she is not signing anything
@ispyonu20 hey hey stop badmouthing australia and new zealand. you coulda said "english from america" but no you had badmouth us.
merci mon chum :|
