Welcome to Minivan Camper Gal! I'm Kelly and I camp and travel in a Chrysler Pacifica Minivan, doing part-time van life. Here you will find van build videos, tips on the digital nomad lifestyle, general travel vlog videos, and more. I'm into minimalism, and I eat a mostly plant-based vegan diet. I'm still learning how to do vegan vanlife well! I have some great vegan camping recipes to share with you, but would love some suggestions, too! Sometimes I stealth camp in the city, but mostly I like to boondock. Join me and my camper van as we embark on all the car camping adventures!

I went on a guided mushroom tour here in Germany. It was absolutely amazing! We went to the forest with the tour guide, searched for mushrooms and then showed it to him (while still in the forst) and he would explain in front of the group what mushroom it was and if it was edible. After this tour I went home and prepared the very best mushroom dish I have ever eaten. Mushrooms that grow wild just taste more intense and there is more variety.
If you have any chance go on a guided tour. If you cannot find one in the US come to Germany haha ;-)

OMG, even taking a picture of the mushroom, and it's ok to eat, I don't eat them, oh, no no, we never know... :-) I absolutely love your channel. Thanks for the update ! Cheers from Belgium.

Hi Roger, haha, yeah, it’s a little scary. But I’d like to get over that fear and be more knowledgeable about food growing around us! Thanks for watching!

I have several friends who hunt and gather Morels in Kansas and also Texas. I've just never been that brave. Funny how I'm brave enough to camp in my van, though! LOL. The park you hiked was beautiful. Hope I can find something similar when I go to Colorado in July.

Yes, I have some family that finds buckets of mushrooms in Idaho. I think I’ll have to plan a trip with them next time, ha! Hope you enjoy your trip!

How fun is that! I read somewhere that the French have their pigs hunt mushrooms or maybe just truffles.

Hello and thanks for providing such an enjoyable, relaxing video. You have quite the world-wide following and I was especially tickled by Roberto's question regarding your eyes! Too funny!
One thing you didn't mention (or perhaps I missed it) is what you do to deter ticks. I live in the Northeast and at every park, there are plenty of signs warning about ticks and possible Lyme disease. Perhaps there are not as many ticks in the West?
Now I'm off to try your Namaste videos!

Hi Becky! Yes, it's so fun to hear from people all over the world that are into the same things as me! (And, yes...I have been in the mirror going "Uh...DO my eyes look like moons?!" Haha.) Yes, we have ticks in the West, and admittedly, I need to up my game! When I'm on a major hike, I use Dirty Girl Gaiters, and spray permethrin on my pants, gaiters and shoes. I hope you like my "Namaste Nature Immersion" channel!

I've had my best luck finding Morel mushrooms in a burn area, under and around fir trees.

Your ridge monkey reminds me of the “pie irons” my mom would bring camping. Just smaller. It magically made delightful pie out of two slices of bread and a bit of jelly!

What a beautiful place Kelly. I think the best place to find mushrooms is somewhere called a supermarket - and you're not too exhausted to cook them 😀❤

I'm so glad you didn't eat those mushrooms without absolute knowledge of what they are. Besides the pasta recipes I sent yesterday, here's my other favorite wfpb no-refrigerator, quick, one-person, one-pot recipe. My son calls it pilaf, but I just call it good. Bring 2 c water, 1/4 c bulger wheat, 1/4 c soy curls broken up, a minced garlic clove or 1/2 t garlic powder, a little minced onion or green onion or 1/2 t onion powder, 1/2 t favorite dried herbs, 1/2 T soy sauce (or braggs or bullion or vegan soup base,) pepper, red pepper flakes, any other seasonings that sound good to a boil and cook for 3 minutes. Add 1-2 cups of cut-up vegetables, and cook for 3 more minutes. Enjoy! You can also use dehydrated or freeze-dried vegetables, but they don't taste as good. Red and green cabbage, carrots, celery, onions, snap peas, tomatoes, and garlic keep for at least a week without refrigeration. But you have to grate carrots for this dish. You can top it with vegan cheese, but it's not very healthy or tasty. Nutritional yeast is better.

Are there bears in that area? Do you ever worry?

    • @minivancampergal1554
      @minivancampergal1554  Рік тому +1

Hey Bonnie! The area I was in was really populated, so no, I didn’t worry too much. I do avoid going to bear problem-areas, (usually national parks and the like) because, yes, I worry about the food in my van attracting them.

I'm not a mushroom lover but love hiking and searching out plants and animals. This evening we saw a lot of little baby toads hoping on and near the trail. Have you watched "Life Is Too Short" youtubers in the UK? Ken and Carol travel in a Nissan campervan and they use a ridgemonkey a lot. They will fold up a pizza in one as well. Happy Hunting!

Foraging for mushrooms sounds fun but I would be nervous to eat anything I identify. I live near the Canadian rockies and go hiking frequently. I'll have to keep an eye out for morels....I don't think I've ever seen any. My friend finds them out east a lot where they get more rain. I live in Alberta and the smoke was terrible here a few weeks ago. We're now having fires in other provinces as well.

Hey Amy! Haha, yeah, I'll be nervous the first time I try something I identify! My course recommended having just a tiny piece to make sure you're right. I loved the CO area so much, it was so beautiful. Lucky you!
