    The emotions you felt during the funeral just imagine being in a theater on opening night to witness the cold open. It was one of the few times a character/actor life felt intertwined. We weren't just mourning the larger than life character but the actor that surpassed the greatest traits of the character he portrayed.
    Rest in peace, Chadwick

    Namor is such an interesting character. The movie changed his origins from his comic counterpart, but I didn’t mind the changes. In the comics Namor and his people are Atlanteans and he is the result of his Atlantean mother falling for a sailor during WW1 (he has a lot of similarities to Aquaman but Namor was first). Namor is considered comics first mutant even being used for reference when X-Men was being pitched. He also is the first comic book character to fly, Superman was still just leaping tall buildings at the time.
    Namor the Sub-Mariner was a member of The Invaders, Captain America’s team during WW2. He’s been an Avenger, an X-Man, an ally to the Fantastic Four, and founded the Defenders. Not only has he aided those teams he’s also been an adversary to most of them. M’Baku’s claim that Namor could match the Hulk isn’t an exaggeration, Namor has gone toe to toe with some of Marvel’s heaviest hitters and he uses the line between hero and villain like a jump rope.
    Namor is also bipolar in the comics because half his physiology craves air and the other craves water so it creates a chemical imbalance in his brain.
    Imperious Rex is his comic book catch phrase and just means Emperor King. He’s most designed after Greek and Roman conquerors, in fact his name is just Roman backwards.
    Sorry for the info dump. Namor is one of my favorite comic book characters and it’s a shame more people didn’t know about him before this movie.

    It's my understanding that Namor's people (i.e. Atlanteans) in the film appear to have blue skin only when on the surface because of their inability to extract oxygen from the air directly; however, upon returning to the ocean their skin typically looks like Namor's since within that environment they become able to breathe normally processing the oxygen through the circulatory system. I loved how Ryan Coogler directed the scene with Shuri going to the ancestral plane because she started off submerged in water which was symbolic of Shuri being drowned by her grief and isolation as a result of her mother and brother's deaths; and once she reached the surface you could tell the fire was representative of Shuri's hatred and rage towards Namor and perhaps the world in general.

    Episode 3 of TLOU followed by Wakanda Forever? You doing OK? That's an emotional one-two punch.
    To the surprise of nobody, Angela Bassett absolutely owned her role and knocked it out of the park. Letitia Wright deserves a lot of credit for carrying her part in a very emotionally driven lead role.
    A little easter egg relating to the post-credit scene reveal: Nakia tells Shuri that Ramonda knew of and had met her grandson. Earlier on in the scene with Ramonda and Shuri on the shore burning the ceremonial dresses, Ramonda is about to tell Shuri something but gets interrupted by Namor making his first appearance in Wakanda. It's a heavy implication that Ramonda was going to tell Shuri about her nephew

    I don't know if the protagonist was "dumbed down" I see it as the leader is so grief stricken her anger allows her to miss things. She was warned not to go to war for revenge. The reason they gave was philosophical but there's a strategic reason too. Scientifically speaking you cannot access the higher functions of your brain when raging making fighting a strong enemy or communication virtually impossible. And who can blame her really after all she lost but when the black panther is ruler, general and greatest warrior you cannot afford to cut off the strategic part of your brain it will cause your troops to loose formation,l and ground and with that goes hope of victory. They pulled it off in the end because of their strength and tech and this was partially a way to show off that strength. It's a testament to nemors intelligence: attack the people so they leadership will be vulnerable then destroy shuris hope, she will either be a great leader (by his measure) that can help him or she will destroy herself and her country ridding him of his greatest foe. The risk is creating a bigger threat so ultimately he was the one who underestimated wakanda

    • @umi_ah9814
      @umi_ah9814 Рік тому

      I disagree. I don’t believe that Namor went about things correctly at all, especially in his first interaction with Queen Ramonda and Shuri. He treated them not as potential allies and rulers to receive aid from, but as enemies: sneaking into the country and approaching the Queen and Princess at night without their guards (already making the two feel like they need to defend themselves), making demands, and threatening them when the Ramonda is rightfully defensive. In their positions, Namor wouldn’t have taken that kindly either. His diplomatic skills are really lacking throughout the film.

    • @umi_ah9814
      @umi_ah9814 Рік тому

      Also, when the Queen sends Okoye and Shuri to do as he asked and retrieve the scientist (to Namor’s knowledge; he has no way of knowing at this point that they aren’t planning on handing Riri over), he has his soldiers attack them, attempt to kill her general, and take the princess. Meeting with Namor makes her desperation worse, as he-when the Queen demands that her daughter be returned to her-threatens to kill Shuri. All this coupled into the fact that Ramonda had just lost her son, and Shuri is the only family member she has left. No shit she’d send Nakia in to get her child back.
      As a character, his motivations and actions are understandable, however that doesn’t make them right. If Ramonda had treated Namor and the people of Talokan as he treated her and the Wakandans, he’d have waged war with them to begin with.

    • @TonyStark-qq3qs
      @TonyStark-qq3qs Рік тому +2

      @@umi_ah9814 why would he reveal himself first off if his people weren’t at risk due to tchallla revelations of vibrainium one two Namor treated shuri with respect showing her his home basically exposing their location to her and in return his people get killed. Wakanda basically started all this. Also if your the queen why would you openly threaten a being that’s stronger than anyone you had currently especially since you had no black panther? Dumb decision on her part. Lik ik talokan!!!!!

    • @umi_ah9814
      @umi_ah9814 Рік тому

      @@TonyStark-qq3qs What do you mean by “reveal himself”? He revealed himself to the Wakandans in the beginning of the movie, as Ramonda told the council and guards about him after their first meeting. I’m not sure what you mean. Also, Namor only showed Shuri to Talokan after the bridge fight (which didn’t need to happen in the first place, and added to the negative relationship between the two leaders-him and Ramonda-as stated in my previous comments). I was referring to their first encounter. He didn’t approach Queen Ramonda and Shuri with respect, or as leaders of a country he wanted to actually get along with (once again, I went into more detail in my previous comments).
      My point was that the two nations could have had a completely different, much more amiable relationship from the beginning. I do agree that T’Challa revealing Wakanda to the world affected the people of Talokan, but there’s also the fact that he had no knowledge of them and how his actions would affect them at the time.

    • @umi_ah9814
      @umi_ah9814 Рік тому +1

      @@TonyStark-qq3qs Also, Ramonda had no knowledge of the strength or style of combat of K’uk’ulkan before the attack on Wakanda, so that’s a moot point. She was just trying to get her daughter back, and was using the only bit of leverage that she had. As I said before, he threatened to kill the queen’s daughter to her face while Shuri was in Talokan, and refused to take her back to Ramonda. Why wouldn’t she have sent Nakiya? I do believe that Nakiya should’ve used non-lethal rounds instead, to avoid killing any of his people. However, she tried to not kill the two women and told them to drop their weapons, but the guard immediately tried to kill Shuri, and the other woman kept her knife against Shuri’s neck (even after being to to drop it about four times). Nakiya also didn’t know how many opponents she would face, or how non-lethal rounds would affect the people of Talokan (if they would even work or not).
      Anyways, I’m not hating on Namor or Talokan. I love how they wrote his character in this film and the representation in this whole movie. I understand his beliefs-especially about the world-and why he took the approach he did with Wakanda, but I don’t believe it was the best one.

    I’m glad you enjoyed this movie.
    I admit I didn’t find much to complain about the cinematography despite the drop in grandiose quality, I find Namor to be a decent antagonist and the attempt at worldbuilding is appreciated, all traces of the atmospheric music is heavenly to the ears, the CGI has some tweaked polish to it and between the sumptuous production design mixed with the elaborate, peacocking costumes, most of this film is gorgeous to look at. And the way they handle Chadwick’s passing makes it a heartfelt eulogy.
    Me personally……it feels like they were trying to do too much. Ryan Coogler did make a smart play to have the characters go through the same emotions so it can attempt to make time for grief (as it was the central then of Phase 4) but then there’s having to set up new heroes and villains, exploring political conflicts, trying to branch out in the overarching world of the MCU, uncovering a new and mysterious civilization, reflecting on the phase’s themes of tragedy and loss, you see where I’m getting at?
    It is simply way too much for the poor man to tackle and build a convincing narrative around in under three hours. And……ok, I’m doing too much.

    Tbh, when they announced this movie, I was a bit sceptical, because in my mind, how they will do this IMPOSSIBLE task, without recasting the Black Panther? Without T'challa, the main character, the center of it all??
    Then the trailers out, and I recently watched this movie on Disney+ yesterday, and I gotta say....this movie is AMAZING. They really did thr hardest task behind the scenes, and really dedicated the lost of Chadwick so well, in certain moments for either Shuri, even Queen Ramonda (which...Angela Basset MURDERED the performance, and truly deserved that Oscar). Namor is by far, interesting character. I like that they changes his origins, and adding sort of Aztec-Mayan-South American culture, just like what they did with Black Panther, with their African culture in most places.
    Even though the pacing were a bit...off sometimes, but I still have a good time, and still understand the story, and conflict.
    Overall, a fantastic watch. Solid 8,5/10 for me.

The third asks her to find acceptance in her grief. And with the fourth, she is being asked to take on the responsibility to help guide another.

I know there are many that'll disagree but I don't find that society embraces the type of toxic feminist vibes prevalent today. At no time do we get the feeling that the women believe they are superior to men. The respect for men are equal to the respect for women. I really like that. There is no need to push down one gender to lift up the other. We can highlight the strengths of both.

    I actually do not know the directors reason for the Talokan skin changing from blue to normal.
    My Theory, is a matter of oxidation or lack thereof depending on where they are. Their natural habitat allows them to have normal skin tones underwater because they're getting oxygenated. On the surface it's just not happening in contact, maybe even deep sea pressure adding a balance as well?

I love angela Basett in everything that she does and I am so glad she is nominaited. I loved this movie so much and it does a good job making you feel all the emotions it wants you to. I was shocked when they killed the queen but it also makes sense in order for Suri to find her way in the world and give her the push she needed to take over as the Black Panther. I love how her suit is a mix between her brother with the silver and Kilmonger with the gold.

    Riri in the armor is Ironheart. :)
    Also, Wakanda underestimating Talokan made sense to me. They have the most technologically advanced military on the planet. And they're so far ahead that the second place nation is completely outmatched. They've never met an equal and it's going to take some time to change that mindset. And once they do, Talokan is gonna be in for a world of hurt. But I also don't think either side would win. They won't lose, technically, but they won't win either. With the rest of the world in the crossfire.

  • @nintenmetro
    @nintenmetro Рік тому +2

    This may be an unpopular opinion, but I feel like Nakia is as much to blame as Ramonda for sparking a war between Wakanda and Talokan.
    On a brighter note, I’m gonna miss Trevor Noah on the Daily Show but I’m glad he had more lines as Griot this time around.
    I’m personally glad this film wasn’t too funny, but Riri and M’Baku helped to bring some lightheartedness during this hard time.
    One particular thing that I like about this movie was that we got not one but TWO indigenous actresses from Guatemala. María Mercedes Coroy (Namor’s mom) and Doña María Telón (the elder Nakia spoke to) are both from Santa María de Jesús in the Sacatepéquez Deparment. My parents are from Quetzaltenango.
    The film’s score includes edited versions for some of the soundtracks’ songs, but they didn’t add the film’s version of Alone by Burna Boy which includes an excerpt of Stormzy’s Interlude at the start of the song. In the soundtrack, both songs are separate.
    Senegalese musician Baaba Maal who provided vocals for some of the background music in Black Panther 1 and 2 got to a cameo singing at T’Challa’s funeral.
    Tenoch Huerta got to reprise his role for the Latin Spanish dub.
    Riri may not have been allowed to take her suit, but that doesn’t mean we’ve seen the last of them. In fact, we’re just getting started. Riri’s superhero codename is Ironheart. She’s gonna have her own series later this year.
    I hope you check out Moon Knight soon. There’s so much to unravel.
    We now leave phase four and enter phase five. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3, and The Marvels are approaching.
    We’re also getting new shows on Disney Plus:
    Secret Invasion - Nick Fury’s solo series
    Echo - Alaqua Cox returns from Hawkeye as Maya Lopez in her own series
    Loki season 2
    X-Men ‘97 - the continuation of X-Men: The Animated Series. It’s not part of the MCU, but it’s produced by Marvel Studios. Most of the original voice cast is returning. You could say it’s season six, and there’s also a season seven on the way.
    Agatha: Coven of Chaos - Kathryn Hahn returns from WandaVision in her own series coming later this year.
    There’s more on the way, but Valentina will return in the Thunderbolts July of next year. She’ll lead a team on antiheroes. The squad so far consists of Bucky, Yelena, Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster, John Walker/US Agent, and Ava Starr/Ghost.
    We’re also getting a fourth Captain America film titled New World Order in May of next year, but now is Sam’s time to shine under the mantle.
    It’s all leading up to Phase Six which will include Fantastic Four and two Avengers films called The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars.
    The new F4 will be directed by Matt Shakman who previously worked on all nine episodes of WandaVision. The Kang Dynasty will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton who previously directed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. They both got their work cut out for them.

      It doesn't matter. It's proven that there's no specific order that the stages of grief happen, even if DABDA is what's generally taught. People experience grief in their own ways, and experience the stages in whatever order it happens for them. This is also a film that has to work narratively, so adhering to a strict order may not work for the flow of the story. This is how Shuri experienced it, and I thought that was a beautiful way to structure the film.

    the 2nd MCU movie The Incredible Hulk has a lot to do with the television show which was a big hit in its time. Starring Bill Bixby who always had to walk away from any town he visits because of the monster lurking within him. There is a sad piano theme whenever he walks away and there are a few memes and parodies and homages to this online. Some of the lines in the film are a callback to the TV show such as...

      lol I just myself did it, I searched for "sad walking away piano song" and yes there are 20, 30, 50 videos? How to make your own walking away parody video... you need a backpack to hold all your belongings and an empty road that you are walking on, now hold on to the strap with one hand and with the other extend a thumb out as if hitchhiking like you were in the late 70s... "You've gotten angry and did some major destruction and perhaps put the lives of those you love in danger. So now you leave and you're walking away alone... slowly down an empty road... until next time..." forever wandering to keep at bay that monster that lurks within you... (none of this is a spoiler to the movie by the way, the piano bit is in a world all its own.)

    Jacqui! I just watched this for the first night on the night it was on Disney Plus. So, when I saw this...I couldn't click on it fast enough!
    I watched this with huge hope for it as 'Black Panther' is my absolute favorite MCU film. It was not a bad sequel in my opinion, either...but it was...a good sequel. I was so heartbroken when Chadwick Boseman passed that not having more of T'Challa/Black Panther feels like robbery on a cosmic scale. I totally agree that Angela Bassett should just be handed the Oscar. I was also so happy with Winston Duke's performance, too. I think if more Black Panther films happen with Shuri, they will probably excellent...but everything getting turned upside down with Chadwick's death, this was as good as it was gonna get. And that is okay...we lost someone we loved on screen, they all lost a collegue, friend, and leader in their franchise. It made me cry quite a lot (not hard, really), but it was still a gut punch at moments.
    The character of Namor in film form was a let down from what I remember of the character as a kid. He was kind of a Marvel version of Aquaman (although Namor was created first, I believe) and Black Adam...sometimes a hero, sometimes an antihero. But, my knowledge of Namor is more based on what I remember as a kid from just a few comics and more Saturday morning cartoons created by Marvel (and often narrated by Stan Lee himself!).
    30:52 - Enter...Ironheart! Riri Williams is sometimes referred to as Ironheart, although, from what I know, it's not official...she kinda takes on the name to honor Tony Stark, who she did meet in the comics.
    33:34 - THANK YOU! I thought I was missing something because the Wakandans were getting their butts kicked. You hit the nail on the head!!! You would have thought that after Thanos, they would take that kinda thing into consideration in any other dealings they might have as a nation. Never underestimate an enemy...and the third act was rife with this! Dramatically...yeah, it's understandable...but, it's not in the character of any of the major allies (M'Baku, Nakia, and Okoye) to lose sight of that, although it is perfectly right for Shuri to (the stages of her grief would make her do stupid things, which it does).
    See you in the next video!

I think they did a remarkable job with what they had to do post-Black Panther/Chadwick Boseman, and I think he would be proud.

But it bugged me a little that Namor is NOT no amor so is not No Love as they claimed. They shouldn't have tried for that because the original character was not Mexican so the spelling doesn't work and I can't believe the writers didn't know a tiny bit of spanish and didn't see they messed up.
