  • In 1964, one man had an idea. Inspired by what he had seen...he wouldn't just reinvent the wheel he'd completely discard them. His invention would be light and agile, a product that would take off like no other. And in 1965 Flymo released its iconic Hover lawn mower. Hover mowers are designed to glide effortlessly across your lawn. They float on a cushion of air making them lightweight and easy to manoeuvre, allowing you to mow your lawn quickly and easily.

I was amazed to run across this video. My dad bought a Flymo lawn mower when I was kid in the 1980's in Portland, OR. I think he got it and the Fred Meyer's store. We had a lawn that ended in a drop off that was very hard to cut with a normal mower. With the Flymo I was able to stand at the top and swing the mower back and forth by holding on to the handle. I had no idea it was still being made.

I remember my dad using the flymo back in the 1960’s for the steepest hills he used a doubled up rope guided it back and forth up and down the hillside it was perfect for that and it was good for water area’s! It was built heavy duty plastic or maybe fibreglass back then and powerful!

My sister has one and is quite satisfied with it. I'm skeptical of the cutting ability due to the airflow principles, but i live a few continents away from her so i haven't had a chance to try it myself and compare it with the hundred or more mowers i've used in my life. She says it really is great for edging and for the uneven front lawn they have.
While i am guessing i would be disappointed with it in heavy use, if it works in areas i would have to use a weed trimmer, then that's a big bonus, as weed trimmers can be very fussy (managing the twine) and the vibrations and noise and mess are usually awful.

You unscrew the grey hand bolts on each side of the handle a little bit and the handle will become loose. When it’s loose enough, you can fold over the handle and screw the hand bolts back up

I am still using one after 35 years. Does not like wet grass and needs the clippings scraped off the bottom, but it is made how things used to be before we were seduced by globalisation cheap throwaway rubbish.

Flymo turbo lite 330 was promising but even the simplicity of opening the grass box lid was not as manual said. Throwing in tip. Piece of rubbish.
