Something gets me about that turn she does when she dodges the can thrown on stage. Part of me loves it because it shows how dedicated and professional she is that she doesn't stop the show, she turns the dodge into part of the dance. Another part of me is sad that she seems so practiced in dodging things being thrown at her, like it happens often enough that she's become graceful at it.
I never noticed until now that the shots of them dancing are not exactly in unison, especially at the 1:00 mark. The late Satoshi Kon was not fucking around with the realism in his directorial debut.
Just because an anime is old doesnt mean the animation cant be mind blowing. Some anime fans act like animation has only been quality for the last 20 years, when in reality, you can find stellar animation as far back as the 1930s. I see people say this a lot, and it just really bugs me. You just have to look, and also keep in mind that a film can and most likely will have better animation than a tv series due to staff and budgeting restraints.
I love that shot of Me Mania’s perspective, with Mima dancing on his hand. It says so much and so powerful! It breaks the 180 rule to his perspective, with a blur surrounding Mima dancing on his hand. Symbolizing that he doesn’t see Mima in the same way as everyone else, he sees her like a goddess on a pedestal, he idolized her. To him, she is perfection. And when his image was ruined by the kids trowing a can at her but she dodged it, he gets angry at the punks and fights them, foreshadowing him attacking Mima for ruining the cute bubbly image he loves after she did that rape scene.
It was all away around a fantastic movie just wish the animation kept the same quality the entire movie. There are scenes where things look badly animated in the opening of this movie then after that the rest of the film the animation looks amazing.
I know plenty of people have praised it already, but Me-Mania "holding" Mima in his hand is one of the most surreal and memorable scenes in any anime I've ever watched.
This beginning means so much more after watching the whole thing . Watching the movie feels like being In a trance, a state of confusion, a terrifying one.
Looking at this scene now, I somewhat get the idea of what it's like to attend a certain performance where you would not expect to see a bunch of adults attend. Back in the fall of 2016, the Kratt Brothers were performing LIVE near my home town. I was so excited about the VIP ticket option because it meant I would be able to meet them backstage after the performance. I've been in love with those 2 ever since I watched "Zoboomafoo" back in kindergarten. While it was no surprise to see a bunch of families at the show, I did initially feel a little weird about being the only young adult attending a kids show but it was all for a good cause because I was not able to meet them anywhere during my childhood. I'm sure a lot of 90's kids probably did the same at other performances.
Yes, but the actual events are that way. I happened to walk by a public gathering that was watching a showcase of groups like this, I don't think any man below the age of 40 was there, few children, and few women as I recall. This kind of music kind of became its own subculture unfortunately.
@@twister1154 i used to watch some love live when I was younger, I remember participating on the subreddit often, I’m fine with people with waifuism, although most people were chill, I’ve seen some guys take it to the extreme on there

Unfortunately, I am one who appreciates the song in an unironic way. The movie is spectacular in every way, but it reveals to me something deep down inside: these idol songs, and the culture they represent, appeal to a Me-Mania resting deep within us all.
@jakubadhd it's much different in japan. mainly the more "moe" type of girl bands have a bigger male fanbase and not a lot of girls like that type of group other than the younger girls.
@Trademarc1977 Geez, pretty lax rules, don't you think. "Hmm, you look creepy and appear to have a history of strange fantasies...everything checks out okay! Now go and protect that J-Pop star who dresses like a little girl!"
I can see why the fan base consists of creepy men. I wonder if the company who started the band had intentions on entertaining children but didn't realize men were going to instead.🤔
Just realized the main reason why Uchida gets mad is not just that they threw a can at Mima, but Mima had to duck to get away from the can, making her move from the center of his hand...
So, what was the deal with those haters? If they hated Mima so much then why did they pay to get in? And yes, I'm assuming you'd have to pay to get in. Are their lives THAT miserable that they feel the need to take it out on people they don't even know? If they hate their lives so much, then they should do what Lois Griffin suggested Meg do in that episode of Family Guy when Chris became popular because of Connie Demico.
Wamu’s gang from devilman: crybaby made their special guest appearance when they started throwing cans at them. Perfect blue and devilman are connected.

Subtlety like that is what makes Kon's films great.
I think the shot of her in the creeps hand is far more impactful but to each their own
Love the finger gun before she ducks, though
@@robertcalifornia9641 i thought of a creeper stalker in this scene because of so many horror films I have scene before.

@Lock Bresnar not really that hard to miss in my opnionion..? XD
When i first time watch it i was blown away by the fluid animation (given the release of the anime itself)
Most likely filmed real girls dancing, then drew it frame by frame.

Same!!!
Those dance moves must've been really hard to draw and animate.
I think animating them dancing not fully in unison is even harder than it looks.

That's the point.
The whole film and this sequence is an attack on pop culture and it's rampant sexism and creepiness.
Mmh, not at all. What did you watch?
Not the whole movie
It's one of the point of the movie , it's not the main point though
Chelsea9 I wouldn’t say not at all. No it’s not the main point, but it’s definitely an underlying theme, the whole internet celebrity thing is.
Losing touch with reality
Satoshi Kon films are some of the most smoothly-animated anime out there.
