@@nerdwatch1017According to some pretty reliable leaks I’ve seen, he is supposedly supposed to show up alongside other cosmic entities to face off against Doom as a reference to what happened during the Infinity Gauntlet arc in the comics. However, the same person said The Watcher would make his live action debut during the Fantastic Four movie as a reference to the first appearance of Galactus in the comics. He is also supposed to give Reed some knowledge of the incursions and the MCU.
For me personally, this was absolutely the best of the season. I think it was the best use of the concept this season specifically and one of the best uses of it over the course of the entire show. Shang-Chi and Kate Bishop made up a pretty damn great duo. This was a great story that put our characters in a completely unique position that the MCU will never get a chance to explore and told a confined and appropriately lengthed story that didn't feel rushed and better fit the 30-minute time format. Cool twists with the hood and the kid that tagged along with them on the adventure. 9/10!
It felt like a lot of the script was referencing the alternate version of the Shang Chi vs Iron Fist Episode they were trying to do. And the Ghost Rider stuff.
We'll see the character come back. And a big reason why they haven't done more with him on what if, is because they're doing Shang Chi vs Iron Fist in live action!
I’m wondering if he will be Iron Fist towards the end of the season. We already know there will be a time jump in the Party Thor/ Birdie universe since Birdie will be an adult by the finale.
And Kurt Russell's father Bing Russell, acted in dozens of westerns, including The Magnificent Seven, Gunfight at the OK Corral, and for years as Deputy/Sheriff Clem on Bonanza!
Easily one of the best episodes of what if felt like one of the what if comics comes to life. The genre and setting , the themes of racial injustice that twist and that nice callout to another superhero adept at the martial art was tight and amazing.
This is my favorite episode of what if season 3. Shang Chi and Kate Bishop are a great duo and I love the wild west setting. The Hood being Shang Chi sister was really emotional.
There should totally be a full series about Marvel's western characters like Rawhide Kid, Two Gun Kid, the original Ghost Rider, the Texas Tornado, etc.
Maybe it could happen in the next 3 episodes but it would be cool to hear the watcher mention something about universes colliding being destroyed!! Maybe even saying it’s happening because of someone
The thing with the kid and the tease at the end, reminded me of that movie with Jackie Chang where a kid helps them through out the movie and at the end it’s reveal the kid is Charlie Chaplain.
By the way if you liked justified you should check out justified City primeval they did a new like rehash of the show and let me tell you it was good they had Boyd Holbrook play the villain and I'm sure you remember him as what's his name from Logan? Ya remember the guy with metal hand? I can't recall his damn name
Shang Chi sequel should be a Mortal Kombat style film Tournament of Seven Heavenly Kingdoms great way to bring back Iron Fist, Colleen Wing, Elektra, etc
The retrofuturistic ghost train design reminds me of the very end of "Back to the Future 3". When the DeLorean gets destroyed on the tracks right before Doc comes rolling through on his steampunk flying train so he can say goodbye to Marty. Just like Cap did with Sam in the finale of Endgame... Also reminded of Alan Rails from Rick and Morty: Vindicators 2 episode 👻 🚂
I think the three shards falling at the very end in the last scene is the Watchers way of calling for help to a few people like Peggy Carter, possibly in the form of portals to where he might be held prisoner by the other members of his race
Great episode with good twists! But as an equestrian, I'd like to talk to the animators about why Kate and Shang were riding with an arm stiffly out to the side.....no one rides like that... 😂
It might be coincidental, but... this had a very strong vibe from the TV show "Warrior". Dude chasing his sister who immigrated to the US in the late 19th century. There were many parallels in this episode to that show. Someone must have had that show in the back of their minds when writing this episode, which is a really good show btw.
I noticed some shards flying off of the multiversal plane when they smack the watcher into it. I wonder if that will be able to give a character some sort of power
Iron Fist and Shang-Chi crossover needs to happen because both are really goated martial artists and man they should kept all their really cool ideas but Marvel always biting the dust sometimes like dude a Ghost Rider and Iron Fist v Shang-Chi would’ve been peak for What-If concepts but hey Marvel going to be Marvel. Still love this episode overall it’s really nice to see Kate Bishop and Shang-Chi again in the MCU Multiverse.
I'm not usually a big Western person because I think they move a little too slow. However, I do like these characters and I thought the fight scenes were pretty solid. I wish they would have had more time at their disposal because I think there was a much bigger story that they could have told here but overall pretty good.
I'm happy the Iron Fist is coming back because that means The Defenders in general will likely be back at some point, a show that I think was great and they should give another crack at. It took the Iron Fist awhile to find its stride, but by season 2 and onward into The Defenders, he was a fun watch, especially with the others (i.e. - Luke Cage, Daredevil, et al).
It's funny how What If... ends up affecting the canon stories themselves. A lot of the original run of What If... comics (What if Hulk had Bruce Banner's mind? What if Captain America was unfrozen in 'Modern' times, etc.) became actual canon in later reboots or storylines and we're now seeing the same thing in the MCU (Can't do certain stories bc they are planning them for the main movies). Love this show though - it's easily the best Marvel Animation project so far.
That'd be cool but it'd have to be an MCU version of Sabertooth. And right now they're slowly building towards the X-Men. Deadpool and Wolverine doesn't count cause that was more of a farewell to the pre MCU era movies.
@kdusel1991 Yeah, I saw the movie too, but the weaving in of the TVA kind of brings that whole wing of the multiverse into play. The existence of a Sabretooth in the Deadpool/Fox Earth implies the existence of one on the MCU Earth.
I thought the pocket watch was a reference to Dr Faustus from Agent Carter? Since he mentioned getting it in Russia. Fun episode Hailee Steinfeld back in the West was perfection. More Shang-Chi & Kate Bishop please K.E.V.I.N.
This episode was dope a f. That train was so reminiscent of Doc Browns train in BTTF 3....YEAH DEFINITELY NEED MORE MCU STORIES TOLD IN THE 1800S I Got Tarantino vibes off this story too....yeah a bit of his cinematography from Kill Bill and even that western he did with Sam Jackson a few years back This was IMHO a VERY STRONG episode ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤oh man, 1800s Spiderman and Doc Strange and Hulk and Iron Man would be tough a.f.
"The Ghost Story" probably a recap from Captain America The Winter Soldier, when cap Steve Rogers mentioning about Bucky to Black Widow Natasha just after Nick Fury fake death scene.
That Iron Fist "cameo" was nice, I can't wait for Shang and IF to face-off. Hopefully it's even better than when IF and Luke Cage faced off for the first time in Defenders.
Iron fist needs a comic accurate suit man or at least something similar. Also I wonder if it’ll be Lin Lie considering he trained with Shang Chi in the comics. I learned that recently due to playing Marvel Rivals and wondering why Danny Rand looked different only to find out it wasn’t Danny Rand😅
I REALLY hope that the delay on SHANG-CHI 2 is because they're trying to put together a tournament that will bring in Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones, Punisher their characters and more to fight an army, assortment, splash page of characters who can't and CAN'T be brought back in future stories. Hi 👋 I kinda think marvel should recast iron fist I think they should be accurate to the comics
I'm wondering if they will somehow mess up the universe they fell into and that's how storm and the other hero's show up for their team up.
The WTF universes, at least the Pet Avengers and Crossbones pirates universes were both canceled episode plots.
Charlie do you think we could see the watcher in Secret Wars?

Iron fist needs to have the same choreographed fights as shang chi, would love to see that.
I think that's a big reason they haven't brought Iron Fist back more before now. They're trying to get the character right.
Hopefully they don’t have the same Netflix actor playing him
@thanos8914 I honestly didn't mind him, but I can see what you mean there are certainly alot of other reasons to not bring back the previous actor.

Kate Bishop was a badass in this episode. She knows how to use her guns lol
"If you haven't seen Tombstone, I'd recommend checking it out."
Understatement of the century, that movie is so freakin special

All of that Tesseract gear looks exactly like Red Skull's tech in First Avenger.
The cracks in the dome that fell towards the multiverse(i think) may be the watchers' contingency plan
Nice theory!
The watcher needs a proper spanking on the bum-bum from the other watchers. He’s not living up to his name, might as well be called the interruptor.
Those two make a kick ass team.
They're pretty cool together ngl. This episode was pretty decent!
Shang Chi and Iron Fist! We gotta get these two together! Thank you Charlie!
Jun fan is Bruce lees birth name
Iron Fist is one of my favorite Marvel heroes. I want to see him done right.

Especially, if you read the comic-book.
Bring Finn Jones as Iron Fist back!
This was definitely the best episode so far. The iron fist mention was the cherry on top.
After the 4th Iron Fist namedrop, it felt very obvious, lol.
That kid is actually Iron Fist in the comics, he was based in Texas.
