I play the pipes by myself. But I' ve never seen how it's made. It' s quite interesting and sophisticated. And also an art for itself.

Bagpipe are so cool. Like Hurst gurgys to. But those bag pipes , wow. Love the sound.
Legend has it, the bagpipes are the only instrument the dead can hear. I guess, love it or hate it, you gotta agree.

nice craftsmanship ! Question : does the drones thickness modulation of the outside diameter (not just the decorative engravements) impacts the sound in any way (if so in which way?) or is it purely decorative ?thanks

From an audiology perspective the outside profile could have a minimal effect on the sound, the thickness of the pipe walls etc, but the difference is not noticeable to the human ear. What is noticeable is changes in the internal bore, different makers use different dimensions to create a different sound.

What's the species of wood which is used to make the pipes ?

Old ones are ebony but more now from cocus wood of african black wood (abw). I have seen pipes made from maple but they look funny. Polypenco is a dense plastic resin that is also coming to the fore and makes for a very stable and durable set of fair sounding pipes.
