As someone who's been overwhelming trained to fall by different government agencies it's awesome to see how the same tree can be felled in so many different ways to pursue different objectives. And yes I'd say that's a gorgeous stump, a bit shallower of face cut then you'd see with the feds and they like a little more stumpshot but they're not getting paid to produce usable lumber so I don't think that matters in the slightest here
Thanks for explaining the cuts for hardwood falling. I have pines and mixed hardwoods, oak cherry and hickory out here in Oklahoma. It is lots easier to find videos about fir spruce and pine but the larger tops and different wood changes things a bit. Thanks for the info again!
Generational family farmer here... its not like i can back a uhaul up to the barnyard and move out to wv, i gotta stay and defend the place for my kids. First they release the violent criminals, then they take away ones means of defense. All while forcing you to fund it each direction.
@@plowmaster1206 I hear ya 💯 and it’s a damn shame that these festering turds keep getting put into power. Most of em are crookeder than a dogs hind legs
Absolutely beautiful foliage this year! We are blessed. Nice job felling Harvey, it was great to see ya out in the woods. My dad logged with a pair of Arctic 046's he bought new from Sissons, he loved those saws. It brings back fond memories when I see another old logger running one. Thanks for sharing.
Damn nice looking crew Ironhorse 👍. That's how you get it all done in a short period of time Harv.. Those men all deserve a cold beer after a long day of hard work. By the way, love that crying baby sound of a well built and sharp saw.. Really like seeing the chaps and boots on the men doing most of the cutting. Harvey, you have so much experience that it's not a big deal with the few cuts your making. Have fun y'all.. Cheers from Canada
Ironhorse What a privilege it was to see and watch the saw you did for Buckin. I was at the Bunyan event along with many others over the weekend. That saw sounded and cut fantastic. 🙂
God Bless ya Harv, we're blessed to have you and appreciate you sharing your knowledge, tidbits, and great attitude. I know I appreciate it as many other of your followers do.
Nice video Ironhorse. I like the team work there harvesting wood. Your country is pretty. I like your gratitude as well. Need some more videos like this once in awhile.
Awesome looking saw there Harvey looks like you did a fine job on her! Good to see all the generations coming together and helping out don't see much of that in today's world and mighty fine looking country
Interesting to see different approaches to get the same result. Hinge wood sure was clean and looked very intentional - guess that stuff never leaves ya.
Nice demo Harv ! Good to see y’all having fun 🤩… I’ll give ya 5 outta 5 stars for that hinge and that ol 460 sounds like a keeper. Dead ash is about the only species native to wny (shagbark another) where you can drop a dead tree 🌲in the morning buck , split and then burn it that nite burn it when the sun goes down!!!
Well folks that's how it's done this ol cat has forgotten more than most of us will ever know !!! Excellent work my friend! Boy that was fun running that saw of Billy's wow !
Thank you THE IRONHORSE for stopping by our camp and demonstrating how friends and family (3 generations) come together to get work done. Stop by anytime. My boy is ecstatic that he is now a UA-cam star! God bless.
Looks just like southern Indiana. We have some very steep rugged terrain around here too. That road you were driving on reminds me of a road we call devils backbone. Several people have met their demise going over into that ravine.
AS SOON AS HARVEYS OUTSIDE CUTTING TREES OR AROUND FIREWOOD HE LIGHTS RIGHT UP ,,,LOGGERS SPIRIT,,MY DAD WAS THE SAME WAY,,,STAY SAFE HARVEY YOU BUILD ONE HECK OF A SAW BUDDY,,BEAUTIFUL SCENERY
I'm just starting to get into cutting my own firewood (12 face so far). Been working on the dead ash trees around my place trying to figure it out as I go with a little youtube schooling and my trusty $50 used stihl 290. It looked like you were cutting right in my neighborhood! Then you said you were in Upstate NY and I was like wait... Then at the end of the video I saw the road # and know that area, Maybe not my backyard but pretty darn close to me!
Knowing you touched that saw its got enough power to pull enough bar to mitigate all those extra cuts 😜 hahaha just bugging Harvey I couldn't help but give you the west coast poke..hope everyone has a great weekend and a wonderful Thanksgiving in Canada
Those tractor winches are pretty decent way to go Cullen, My father has a “farmi” brand on about a 35 hp Kubota 4wd with double ring chains in back. They have a place for sure haha.
Reminds me of me and my dad grandpa and uncles when I was young. Iron horse I have a 281xp my grandpa gave me and I think the clutch springs are shot the chain moves at idle then stalls the motor if I touch it to wood without throttle. I can cut with it just not safely
I'm just a firewood and storm clean up cutter so please excuse my ignorants. What's the advantage of doing a bore cut as opposed to cutting straight in from the back, putting wedges in after about halfway through the cut? Thanks, 6.4! 😉
Iron Horse..Dan here..understudy and friend of Buckin Billy..I’m a central NY state judge..(I think someone said you’re in NY too). Just got a vintage Husqvarna 380CD powerhead. Runs but it needs some tweaking. How can I get your help? Even advice? BTW, I’ve got the same 460 Magnum, but not with the Iron Horse touch. Congrats on the Buckin Billy Paul Bunyan saw. Amazing
I remember when I was a kid dad went around the neighborhood selling fire wood and people would ask him what kind he had and he would reply Oak , ash , hickory !
My question is re salmon running yet up that way lol. I got some friends up the Pulaski way sorta kinda . Actually Ben thinking of moving up that way but I’m worried about if I can work I’m a climber/ cutter brush stagger you know the deal
That's how country folk do it brother... all generations come together and families help other families neighbors helping neighbors not like the cities... man I'd love to pay harv to build me a 064 with a 066 top lol
Harvey, still investigating what I can do with the 048, other then doorstop or wall hanger. Could I swap the cylinder out to another stihl 52mm cyl from another model saw rathe easily or would I be wasting my time?
Wow small world im upstate NY as well Sarstoga county. Been harvesting wood too with my 74 yr old dad that can out hand split me with a heavy maul any day 😆😳😳

Ny is a beautiful state.... time for a new governor
It's a shame what they have done to that state
Not a Governor …. Governess 😀💯

That's a helluva stump there Ironhorse. Stump tells the story.
Great video. I love going out and cutting firewood.
Hello from Delaware County, NY! Good job, guys.
The sound of the saw reminds me of my 046 Magnum I had I ran a 28 it had a full wrap handle
Awesome cutting on the stump. You’re good!
that 046 running real nice fantastic job with that thing
Looks just like southern Indiana. We have some very steep rugged terrain around here too. That road you were driving on reminds me of a road we call devils backbone. Several people have met their demise going over into that ravine.

Fall is my favorite time of year. The air is refreshed with cool nights and warm days. God is good God is great. Too bad so many of the ash are dying.

Fire wood for the hunt camp 👍👍

nice saw. but, the tsumura bars i've use have all sucked at oiling. port too small and clogs up with pulp.
That’s how families should be right there see a need get in there and get it done
