I worked for the Lowrey Organ distributors from 1972 to 1979 as their production and service manager in the UK and remember Harry very well. We would specially modify and prepare Lowrey organs for him. I remember him regularly playing on the Michael Parkinson show. I recall we had a promotional LP made about 1976 with Harry playing a Golden Anniversary (GAK) model. I think there were only 1000 copies. I have one somewhere. The title song/ theme was "Its Magic" I also remember being very nervous at my first show with Harry. It was at a club in Blackburn. I sat with Yvonne backstage whilst Harry was on stage performing. We shared some smoked salmon sandwiches she had brought with her. I had never eaten smoked salmon before and was so nervous I was sick. Harry and Yvonne were very kind. He promised that I would get a mention on the album cover which he did and I also had a photograph in the promotional literature, unfortunately wearing a borrowed brown and yellow tank top and not my stage wear as that was being sponged down when the photographs were being taken.
I was brought up listening to Harry. Dad was a big fan and he had a Lowrey Heritage in the very early 70s. He is still my all time favourite. What I hadn't realised that he had his Heritage modified to give that more scream sound.
Harry really knew to make the Lowrey Heritage scream. What a combination: Heritage valves, Lowrey AOC (turns single notes played in right hand into chords based on what's played in the left hand), and Leslie speaker.
Yes the organ is very cool sounding - what really astounds me is how creative his arrangements are!
Superb, happy memories of Harry and Yvonne visiting Lowrey HQ.
Yes, super !
Don't remember a Lowrey from the 70's sound this good!
Lowrey Heritage Deluxe is a 1960s model - its super-visceral sound is a match for any Hammond.
Heritage Deluxe at its best .... enjoy! ua-cam.com/video/zN-cn_5G2Gk/v-deo.html
@@mikebracchi If you see my note above concerning Lowrey organs prepared for Harry. I would boost the bass output volume and cut back the treble within the pre-amp stages. We would also change the speaker crossover to improve the organ performance and modify the main amplifier to increase output by about 1/3. In addition, at the factory, we would modify the rotational dynamic of the internal Leslie speaker. Harry was a perfectionist and we would "tune" organs specifically for him. He was one of the few people I have met with a natural perfect pitch. Sometimes I would be working on an organ minutes before his performance on Saturday's Parkinson's show.
Fantastic to hear this. Harry was a legend! It would be great if you could upload 'This is Harry Stoneham'.
Harry Stoneham - my favor from Britenia!
