Thinking Of Getting A

  • I have White-bellied Caiques… and I LOVE them.
    Are you thinking about getting a Caique parrot? If I were in your shoes, here are the things I’d want to know:
    First, let me tell you that a Caique wouldn’t be my first pick if I had no parrots, but easily top 5 or top 3!
    Caiques are amazing. They are full of life, energy and joy. Oh, and attitude! One problem with Caiques is that they are stubborn and do as they please- which makes them hard to handle if you aren’t accustomed to parrots. They are also messy!
    If you are comfortable adopting a lifestyle in which you are engaging with two Caiques - because these are social parrots that play all day when they have a friend - and you don’t mind keeping their cage clean all of the time, because they get their cages dirty, then this could be a great companion(s) for you.
    On the other hand, if you want an easier parrot as far as time and dedication go, then I wouldn’t recommend a Caique. There are a lot of other species that are more affectionate, like Green-cheek Conures, and that aren’t quite so full of stubborn joy!

    They look like Lovebirds. I have a Cockatiel. They are messy too. Chew everything. I chose a Cockatiel vs a Lovebird because of the noise factor. I live in a Condo, so i have to be considerate to my neighbors.
    Darn, your birds are sooooo cute!!!!!😊

    Great video. Caiques are feathered monkeys. They truly are silly, non stop clowns. Mine are very affectionate. They can become moody and nippy. They need tons of enrichment and lots of chew toys. They are bold and fearless. I tell people you have to work with and play with your new friend. And, yes, they are unbelievably messy. But, they are my choice of parrot!❤️

    This is one breed that is super high maintenance. They’re very unpredictable and will give very bad bites. They’re also very very loud with repetitive high pitched beeps or noises that can last for hours on end, they don’t wear out easy and are very unpredictable. My caique bit my 2 sons very badly making them bleed, I’ve seen others bite and their owners had to get stitches. Other birds his size he’s been okay with however he’s gone after my African grey trying to bite him. I don’t think this breed is for everyone and if I had known what mine would be it wouldn’t have happened. I was told the opposite when buying him that he was a sweet loving bird who was a clown and he was already 4 years old. Once I got him he was the complete opposite so you never really know what they’ll be like once in your care.

The grey we had though she threw off the top of its cage and then tried to attack. I have a Nanday Conure, he is self plucking (complex matter) but you mentioned Hemp Seed (and Oil), is Hemp Seed safe to give to parrots? I think you also said in this clip that dark Linseeds are a healthy add to diet? Would the Linoleic acid of Linseed help my bird (complex issues aside) to stop plucking? • @ParrotBliss
      @ParrotBliss  5 місяців тому

      Hi Peter-
      Yes, hemp oil helps calm.
      However, you have to address the complex matter. I understand, I have a few complications myself... not easy.
      Once a parrot has plucked for a month, they are highly unlikely to stop. Worse still, it can escalate (I'm fortunate, mine haven't) and they can bite/wound their skin once they have no feathers.
      If you like, share the complex issue.

    I liked the intro, good music, nice visuals, great-looking birds, love it.
    The point of your video was lost in your commentary. What I could draw out, is:
    1. Caiques are highly energetic social butterflies that don’t feel the need to cling to one person.
    2. Caiques and their new owners would benefit from some training.
    3. When mating, they need time to themselves.
    Everything else is subjective and therefore not needed. This could’ve been 3 minutes, tops.

    I have had a caique for 17 years and she is 18. Ever since she laid 14 eggs over a year ago she has changed. She is not as playful as she used to be. Nor is she as clownish. I don't know what's happened. She even got a very aggressive with me last year for a few months but now we are back on good terms. But she is really very temperamental. She runs hot and cold. She is good with me and my wife and likes to stand on our shoulders while we do stuff around the house but she really lets us know how she's feeling good or bad. She is very aggressive to strangers and we advise visitors to keep their distance. They are a challenge and I would recommend them but I do think what you do with two is a good idea. My little one has been by her self for a long time. Over the past year and a half I have acquired 3 other birds and that may have had an effect on her behavior. She's jealous?

    • @ParrotBliss
      @ParrotBliss  2 роки тому

      Yes, changes can be hard on a parrot. If she never laid eggs before, that could be an issue but I don’t think so. Adding 3 new birds after her having been the only one is more likely. Does she like the Goldens? What’s the 3rd?
