This is part of a special series where @TheFleetOfOceans , @BrotherMunro and myself will take turns managing the Spanish navy in decade-long intervals.

Hey Rex, I'm a viewer of your Hanger channel ❤ 🛩(which is part of my Triple Entente of must-see Aviation Programming). I'm here also on a recommendation from BrotherMunro's Channel. I've logged in a few campaigns on UAD, so I noticed something that could be a Financial Boon to your Succession Campaign 💰... Mothballing & Scrapping (& definitely Refitting) can (of course) be important tools to modernizing & maintaining the fleet.
That said, the real cash saver (especially in Peacetime game mechanics) is Changing each of your individual Ship's Role (button) from Sea Control➡In Being or, even as Defend (as more of a Mine-Laying/ Standby/ Reserve head-cannon). Sea Control is massively expensive 💸💸💸to send out on off-screen patrol missions, whereas In Being is more of the near-coastal waters defense patrols (& thus, more cost-effective).
While Defend can be a touch gamey in the (frugal dept. of) financial mechanics, playing as Spain's Economy more than balances that with added difficulty.

Thanks for the advice! Its been fun playing this game again, used to play it a lot a couple of years ago, a lot has changed! (mostly for the better!)

I know this comment is very late, but when I play the nations with worse economies, as every little cash matters, i try to avoid scrapping ships, instead when a class has become obsolete and its replacement is started to get replaced itself, I mothball all the ships instead of scrapping them, as I will probably get offers to buy them from my minor allies.
This acomplishes a couple of things, 1 i get money for ships i would scrap anyway, 2 i always have an emergency reserve of 3rd line ships for convoy escort and ass-end of the world base defense, and 3 i keep my minor allies with sizeable fleets to help me in wars (basically extra ships i dont pay upkeep on).
The last point was well shown in this video when 90% of the ships that actually fought the austrians were egyptian or syrian.
Lastly, if the ships I want to mothball to sell are stupidly obsolete (ex: a 1890 torpedo cruiser in the 1910s, i do a sunsetting refit, to have them in a useable state for raider, escort or port defense, if a war breaks out; and it tricks the minor nations AI into giving them more value and actually buying them).
Ultimate admirals? Hell yeah. I've been looking for a nice let's play but I haven't liked any of the ones I've found. This should be good.
