Great idea! I enjoyed H is for Hawk when I read it a while back. Another good read for me was Crow Country by Mark Cocker, which I'm about to re-read. I'm currently reading Weeds, The Story of Outlaw Plants, by Richard Mabey, another good one!
What an enjoyable video! I love nature writing. I have added many of these to my TBR! I heard H IS FOR HAWK is an amazing read. It is a favorite of many people I know, all I have heard is great praise for this one. Hope this pushes you along a bit! I look forward to your new series. Xx
Thanks Kristine ☺️ I'm going to be starting a lockdown book club for all us nature readers, I'll have to read H is for Hawk if we all vote for it! 😛 Stay tuned on Instagram for the details!
An interesting selection! I bought ‘Wilding’ ages ago but still haven’t read it yet, & I really ought to as I met Isabella & had a tour of the Knepp estate with Charlie, 2 years ago. A brilliant one is ‘Rebirding’ by Ben Macdonald, best book I’ve read for a long time!
Ah wow that must have been awesome! 😃 I'd love to visit Knepp - let me know once you've read wilding and we can compare thoughts 😊 ooh will make sure to check that one out too!
What a great idea, I can't wait for the reviews. I've mostly got nature I.D books and could do with ones like these, I rarely find people who are I to nature so these kind of books might be good companions. I've recently purchased Chris Packham's book.
Thanks Martin! 😊 It's always nice to mix it up when it comes to nature books, hope you find the future videos helpful! Ah I need to read Packham's book as well
Good recommendations. I'm reading Moth Snowstorm right now and enjoying it so far (once past the depressing bit!) and started the year with H is for Hawk, which you should deffo read - it can be tough going but ultimately it's uplifting; the historical parallels she draws with other writers are interesting but i did skim read some of these bits. We read Wilding and The Living Mountain in my wildlife book club last year and both are very different but fantastic reads. I finished Wildling amazed by the insight and humour, as well as the conservation implications of the project, and wanted there to be at least 1 Knepp in every county in the UK. I believe Isabella Tree's next project is to publish a Wilding manual, so others can do what they did... so maybe there will be in 20 years time! The Gary Ferguson book sounds interesting so will add that to my list and also I'd encourage people to use their library if they still have one - you can often reserve a book from another library if it's not stocked locally. I've got all of these out of my library in Peckham :)
Also I would recommend Joe Harkness' Bird Therapy, Mark Cocker's Our Place, and, if you want a bit of wildlife inspired fiction, All Among The Barley is interesting insight into farming in the 1930s.
Thanks Joe 😊 yes libraries are great! I actually already have all among the barley on my shelf so will have to get to that one soon too, looking forward to getting started on my nature book pile 📚
Great video. I've been in such a reading mood lately and have just finished reading The Secret Life of Owls. Your video is just what I needed and I look forward to more of your Wild Reads videos 😊
Thanks for your recommendations, I will be adding some of these on my list to read.
Love your recommendations. I will definitely get Wilding. Thank you.
