Be inspired to get outside and explore, learn how to watch nature and reap the emotional and physical benefits of a more “wild” life with Quest for Nectar.
My name's Lucy, I'm a naturalist, blogger, nature communicator and amateur wildlife photographer/filmmaker.
I spent my childhood chasing butterflies, rummaging around in rockpools and binge watching David Attenborough documentaries. It's a sad fact that most of the adult world nowadays seems to be suffering from "nature withdrawal" - the symptom of a real lack of connection with the natural world.

Nice video look forward to more of them ! Hope your fine 👍🇬🇧
Excellent video, lots of cool information on dragonflies and damselflies. Pity there’s not more video’s on this channel 🐝
Love ur accent~~
Thanks for your recommendations, I will be adding some of these on my list to read.
This video gives such a great feel for the site you were at. What camera did you use to get the waterfowl footage?
Thanks! It was a Canon SX50 hs 🙂🦆
@@questfornectar4451 awesome! I am definitely looking into upping my camera game for my own UA-cam channel and seeing what other people are using helps a lot! Do you have a particular lens that you like?
@@ABirdingNaturalist it's a bridge camera so it doesn't have interchangeable lenses :) works great for birds though as it has an amazing zoom!
Done
Beautiful garden, pollinator heaven the bees and butterflies must love it 🐝
omg, she sounds like emma watson <3 i love her voice
Looks expansive I Hate read a book but sometimes i wonders to read.
They have been designed so cleverly 🥰 love bee orchids
7 worlds one planet is an amazing book, mixture of environmental concerns, anecdotes about being encompassed in forests and deserts, beautiful world class pictures of the natural world etc
Nice voice
reademulvany insta you have it ?
Love your recommendations. I will definitely get Wilding. Thank you.
Fantastic video Lucy - informative, entertaining and so well presented. Our next-door neighbour has a garden pond and it's always such a joy when I catch a glimpse of a dragonfly in the summer.
Have you built a hiberaculum yet ?Try a pile of leaves and piles of cardboard.More the better the damper it will become.Plenty of hiding places I have for them in my garden to stay safe from predators.I attract lots of inverterbrates for them to eat from my compost bin.Tonnes of ants in there especially good for the toadlets when they just leave the pond
We haven't quite yet though have started a log pile next to our shed :) there were toads using our pond for the first time on the hot nights this summer - so great to see!
Hello ! I like your video.
Thank you! ☺️
@@questfornectar4451 you are welcome
Nice video. A male Anna's hummingbird with a bright pink throat and iridescent green visits the flowers in our garden. We put up a hummingbird feeder and a little female start coming around too as well as one other who has a bit of green. Hummingbirds eat insects in addition to nectar, so it's possible that the pecking was for insects on the flowers.
Thanks Elizabeth 😊 so lucky to have hummingbirds in your garden! In the UK I occasionally have a hummingbird hawkmoth but that's about it 😛 ah yes - maybe that's what he's doing when he pecks at the flowers!
Excellent video and channel, congratulations. Cheers
Lovely garden. I've planted some lettuce, cauliflower and cucumber in the my vegetable garden. I'm planning to plant a few more vegetables in the coming weeks. The book sounds like a relatable read for many people. I noticed you have The Bear and the Nightingale series on your bookshelf. I love that series 😊
Thanks Sarah - I've got a few cauliflower seeds in this year too! Never grown them before so fingers crossed they germinate...OMG that series is one of my FAVOURITES!! So happy to have discovered it this year 😍
@@questfornectar4451 I'm a huge bookworm so I'm always spying on the books people have the shelves behind them 😂
0:00 - Rootbound Review 6:22 - Wildlife Garden Tour Hope you enjoy today's video - do leave me a comment below telling me what you've got growing in your garden this year 🌷😀
I'm from asia i really like to watch any black or white people in eroupe or america, couse looks like they are so competitive and smart.
I really enjoyed this video, also! I have been looking for some replanting advice for my Peace Lily. He is thriving but needs more room, you gave me the confidence to replant him. Thanks for so many great ideas, I need a few more plants in our home!
What an enjoyable video! I love nature writing. I have added many of these to my TBR! I heard H IS FOR HAWK is an amazing read. It is a favorite of many people I know, all I have heard is great praise for this one. Hope this pushes you along a bit! I look forward to your new series. Xx
Thanks Kristine ☺️ I'm going to be starting a lockdown book club for all us nature readers, I'll have to read H is for Hawk if we all vote for it! 😛 Stay tuned on Instagram for the details!
All of these books sound amazing! LAB GIRL was my favorite read from last year, Highly Recommended! Stay Well & Safe Xx
Thank you! ☺️
Hi guys - hope you enjoy all the houseplant goodness in this latest video! 😀🌷 It's a bit of a long one so I've left some time stamps below: 0:33 - Houseplant tips + tricks 5:40 - Repotting 9:20 - Propagating 11:29 - Beginner houseplant suggestions!
Great recommendations and reviews! I hadn't heard of the first 3 but they all sound great! The problem is still not enough time, despite lockdown. One downside of lockdown is libraries are closed; I'm going to take out a trial on Audible to listen to some nature on audio. Our nature book club is reading "A Sting In The Tail" by Dave Goulson next.
Brilliant! I've been meaning to read some of Dave Goulson's books for s while now - I have a feeling ill like his style 🙂 yes it's a shame about the libraries but maybe you could have a look for second hand copies online in the meantime?
excellent maybe you could build a hibernaculum
Yes I'd love to! Any tips on building one? 😀
Check UA-cam how to build it's really easy use leftover materials in the garden old soil, bricks, stick, old drainpipes.Ohh I found a few common toads in my garden today, saw a squashed one near where I live.I wanna have a lòok for adders next
Thank you for taking us with you! It was so lovely to watch and to hear those beautiful sounds!!! 🥰🐰🦆💚
So glad you enjoyed it! ☺️ I'm hoping to make a video focussing on birdsong soon...when I can get a microphone working 😛
ugh this is just making me so desperate for summer!! It looks so beautiful there. Also had no idea there are red squirrels on the Isle of Wight!
It's such a gorgeous place 😍 will definitely be going back soon! I think this is the closest site for red squirrels to London - will have to travel to your neck of the woods next time 😊🌲
@@questfornectar4451 absolutely! 👍🏴
Yay in my local stomping ground! Such a great spot, the Waterworks is fantastic. I'd recommend a return visit once spring fully kicks in, there's two pairs of Little grebe, little owl, Sparrow hawks and there are so many Rabbits. If you're lucky you may see the local Weasels , the female is fearless and will almost run between your legs. Its also great for Edible frogs, newts and Grass snakes. The Filter Beds is a separate location a short walk away and also well worth checking out, Great for Woodpeckers, Treecreepers, Reed buntings and Grass snakes, also another fave spot for the Weasels.
Ah amazing! 😃 I really enjoyed my trip there and will definitely be going back, I'd love to see a weasel 😍 and little owls would be fantastic! Any tips for spotting them?
Well done on getting the footage of the goldcrest! They're one of my favourites just because they are so teeny tiny haha, and I'm lucky to see quite a few around where I live but always struggle to get any decent shots/footage of them. All the early signs of spring in this vid just made me so excited!
Thanks meg! ☺️ I was super happy to see one let alone get some crappy film of one 😂 yay! Looking forward to spring really springing in the next few weeks 🌳☀️🐦
Such a great video 😊 looking forward to the rest of them 💚
Thanks for watching Elaine ☺️ do make sure to follow along on Instagram if you aren't already 🌷🐝🐦🌳
You presented this video so well!! And such great footage of the tufted ducks, you captured them so well! 🥰
Thanks Meg! 😃 I'm only starting out with the whole UA-cam malarkey but it's super fun so far, hoping to pick up a few photography/tech tips from your channel (as you can see my set up is still pretty basic 😂)
Good recommendations. I'm reading Moth Snowstorm right now and enjoying it so far (once past the depressing bit!) and started the year with H is for Hawk, which you should deffo read - it can be tough going but ultimately it's uplifting; the historical parallels she draws with other writers are interesting but i did skim read some of these bits. We read Wilding and The Living Mountain in my wildlife book club last year and both are very different but fantastic reads. I finished Wildling amazed by the insight and humour, as well as the conservation implications of the project, and wanted there to be at least 1 Knepp in every county in the UK. I believe Isabella Tree's next project is to publish a Wilding manual, so others can do what they did... so maybe there will be in 20 years time! The Gary Ferguson book sounds interesting so will add that to my list and also I'd encourage people to use their library if they still have one - you can often reserve a book from another library if it's not stocked locally. I've got all of these out of my library in Peckham :)
Also I would recommend Joe Harkness' Bird Therapy, Mark Cocker's Our Place, and, if you want a bit of wildlife inspired fiction, All Among The Barley is interesting insight into farming in the 1930s.
Thanks Joe 😊 yes libraries are great! I actually already have all among the barley on my shelf so will have to get to that one soon too, looking forward to getting started on my nature book pile 📚
Great idea! I enjoyed H is for Hawk when I read it a while back. Another good read for me was Crow Country by Mark Cocker, which I'm about to re-read. I'm currently reading Weeds, The Story of Outlaw Plants, by Richard Mabey, another good one!
Crow Country is a terrific book :)
Thanks for the suggestions Sharon! 😊
Great video. I've been in such a reading mood lately and have just finished reading The Secret Life of Owls. Your video is just what I needed and I look forward to more of your Wild Reads videos 😊
Glad you enjoyed it Sarah ☺️
An interesting selection! I bought ‘Wilding’ ages ago but still haven’t read it yet, & I really ought to as I met Isabella & had a tour of the Knepp estate with Charlie, 2 years ago. A brilliant one is ‘Rebirding’ by Ben Macdonald, best book I’ve read for a long time!
Ah wow that must have been awesome! 😃 I'd love to visit Knepp - let me know once you've read wilding and we can compare thoughts 😊 ooh will make sure to check that one out too!
What a great idea, I can't wait for the reviews. I've mostly got nature I.D books and could do with ones like these, I rarely find people who are I to nature so these kind of books might be good companions. I've recently purchased Chris Packham's book.
Thanks Martin! 😊 It's always nice to mix it up when it comes to nature books, hope you find the future videos helpful! Ah I need to read Packham's book as well
They all sound very interesting!! H for a Hawk and the Moth Snowstorm catched a lot my attention 🌿📚😃Thank you for sharing!!!!
No worries - thanks for watching! ☺️ I'm super excited for the moth snowstorm 🦋
What a great place!!!! With so much to see!!! I have to say the wagtail clip dance is stuck in my head now 😂 that was so hilarious!!! Beautiful video 🐿🦜🌳!!!!
Thanks so much Alina! 😄
Oooh wow what a beautiful corner for nature you created here!!! 🐞💚🌻🐝 and amazing shots!!!! Already some of them on my to watch list 🥰 new Subbie here!!! Have a lovely day!
Thanks so much! ☺️ You too!
Great video. I live in Ireland and have a number of red squirrels in my area, I often see them darting across the road. Such cute little creatures 🐿️😊
Thanks Sarah! 😀 I was so happy to see them, they're incredibly cute and charismatic, I wish they were more widespread across the UK
I will never be able to look at a wagtail again with thinking of this! Great video, I must checkout Wanstead Park, I always neglect it and head along the River Roding or over to the flats.
Haha thanks Ian - It's the opposite for me I never really head to the flats! I guess they're quite good for reptiles though?
Loved this Lucy! Its amazing how interesting the smallest, seemingly insignificant creatures become once you start thinking and appreciating!
Thanks so much Benito ☺️ looking forward to more wildlife watching soon!
Great video :)
Thanks Martin 😃
Really fun video as always mate...I won't ever look at a wagtail in the same way ever again he he twerk it lol....wishing many more adventures for 2020 👣
Thanks jodz! ☺️ Haha they are such funny little birds - I love the tufted ducks too 😍
@@questfornectar4451 the tufted ducks eyes are so mesmerising they definitely are really beautiful duckys!!!
Amazing stuff :) We get Yellow Wagtails as well! Keep up the amazing work!
Thanks Vaughan 😃 ah I didn't realise that yellow wagtails were in the UK too!
Quest for Nectar Yeh I didn’t either but I was walking near some farmers fields in the summer a few years ago and there were a good number of them there. I couldn’t believe it! The fens have some amazing creatures! I love your videos though and the theme tune is stuck in my head 😍
@@vaughanfoulkes-arnold5897 glad you like them 😊 I'm hoping to make lots more this year (and actually get hold of a proper microphone so the wind is less of a problem...😂)
Quest for Nectar ah brilliant! Well if you are ever down Cambridgeshire way I’d be happy to show you some of the fens! 😀 you may definitely need a new mic for that because it’s flat and windy here!!!
@@vaughanfoulkes-arnold5897 thank you! 😃 I'll be sure to look you up of I'm ever headed that way
Nice capture :)
Nice instagram natural pictures . :::::My English :::: sorry :::::::::

That is one fat toad!!! Brilliant video as always love the information/ knowledge, keep the wildlife content coming....thanks for sharing!!! Cheers
Thanks so much jodz! 😊 Haha she was pretty beasty - I love finding her in the flower beds after rain hoovering up all the slugs
