There's just something in Bayan Ko that makes it so different than other Patriotic Songs which makes it one of the best. Unlike those in France or America where it boasts of the nation's legacy or willingness to die for their motherland. Bayan Ko just... doesnt do that, it doesnt call the nation to fight for the last man or have the upbeat aura Lupang Hinirang gives. Neither the call for those to rise up like the Internationalè or March of the Volunteers. Despite it being played with a tune that sounds depressing or dystopian, it's... special. Special since it invokes what Patriotism truly means. It doesnt invoke as if the Philippines is superior, or the enemy will regret ever touching Philippine Soil, it's a prayer for a better tomorrow. It prays the Philippines wakes up or a plea, a cry, for change. For a better tomorrow. It refuses to talk about how the time to rise up is now, it's a plea to the Government to fix the country, It has suffered long enough, the nation needs change, it needs a new beginning, a new hope. The song talks about and reminds the nation of its dark and painful history and to never repeat the mistakes the Fathers of the Five Republics did. Never again afterall. That is how a Patriotic Song should be. It shouldnt promote the idea of the nation's great legacy, impact in history, or how they are superior, it should do one thing, remind the mistakes those before us had done to progress the future. We must not pride ourselves with our rich history, we must remember how our nation got here. That is how Bayan Ko is one of the best, if not, PERFECT Patriotic Song. It invokes what true Patriotism is, fighting for the country's morals and ideals no matter the Government. Not fighting for the Government or being prideful of it's History. Lupang Hinirang invokes the Loyalty, Bayan Ko invokes the Patriotism.
