    The best tip ever...You have the two cans (primer and adhesive) taped together making them less likely to tip over and spill. Brilliant! I have knocked over so many cans over the years it isn't funny. I will be taping my cans together from now on! I usually buy adhesive and primer the old fashioned way: One can of each to knock over under the house, and a second set of cans to glue my pipes together, ha ha. This trick will cut my purchase price in half!!

    This works perfect.I fought with an old 3/4" brass barbed fitting for a few days fighting leaks. I bought a plastic 3/4" barb fitting, knocked it into the poly pipe, installed a hose clamp and no more leaks. Thank you.

    You are correct, I could have used a female adapter. When I transition from PVC to other pipe types, especially galvanized, I usually like to use bushings with a coupling. That way instead of a female adapter being the weakest point of the transition, the coupling with bushings becomes the strongest point. Also if you over tighten a female adapter you can spread the threads or stress the fitting enough that it will fail later.

    1. Not sure what you mean by a PCP adapter. 2. I identify the 3/4" insert male adapter at 1:29 in the video and it is annotated at 5:12 in the video. 3. If a clamp is not used to tighten the poly pipe against the insert adapter, the fitting will leak or the pipe will blow off the fitting. 4. Primer takes the sheen off the pipe, cleans the pipe, and softens the pipe for a good chemical bond. 5. Clear glue is a good glue to use in PVC applications, I just prefer to use blue glue.

    WD-40 is a water displacer (hence, the "WD" in the product name). I use a heat gun. Works great every time! Don't over-heat the poly pipe though... 10 seconds or so is all it takes, and keep the end of the heat gun moving. Don't leave it on any one spot too long.

    Just use a compression adapter, all you do is glue it in to your pvc and slide your poly tube into the compression adapter and done. You can get the compression adapter from irrigation companies on line, they have 1/2", 3/4" etc. The 1/2" compression adapter is only about 20 cents a piece.

Here's a link that might help: www.lowes.com/Search=poly+insert+fitting?storeId=10151&langId=-1&catalogId=10051&N=0&newSearch=true&Ntt=poly+insert+fitting#! I used a 3/4 polybutylene to 3/4 pvc sharkbite brass press in type adapter grey on one side (poly)and yellow on the other (cpvc)...then a stick of cpvc to another coupler which is a 3/4 to 3/4 cpvc to pvc adapter....then you just hook up your white pvc pipe to the big end of that small coupler!!!
    It just cost me like $18 and some change at home depot cause I bought a sharkbite coupler disconnect tool...
    Make sure the sharkbite coupler is grey on one side and yellowish on the other side..

    • @Iscaper

      One way is to drill a hole directly into the CPVC pipe and thread the hole to accept your air line tubing valve.
      You could also try and find a threaded bushing that would from 1/2" cpvc to 1/4" FIPT (Female Iron Pipe Thread). Then thread a valve with a 1/4" MIPT threads into the bushing that has an outlet for the drip system, similar to the valves in this link: www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=8165&cmpid=03cseYY&gclid=CjwKEAjw7svABRCi_KPzoPr53QoSJAABSvxfLGxoTL-6W6lR6pDZweDYg00oPOF1Ny1ftV3kou_AhBoCR07w_wcB

      You could use a Pex male adapter on the Pex pipe and a PVC female adapter on the PVC pipe, although on the PVC side I would use a coupling and threaded bushing instead of a female adapter. It's too easy to crack or stretch the threads on a PVC female adapter. Be aware that PVC pipe is not rated for hot water, but CPVC is.

      I've never had good luck using PVC male or female adapters. They split and crack too easily. That's why I went with a PVC 1" x 3/4" bushing (Slip x Thread) glued into a 1" coupling, then a 1" x 3/4" bushing (Slip x Slip) glued into the opposite end of the 1" coupling. It makes the transition much stronger.

    I believe I've tried to do this, using only a double ended barbed fitting (there was a leak in the poly pipe, so we removed a small section, maybe 3/4"). But I can't get the hose clamps tight enough to keep the repair from leaking. This poly line is buried ~ 2', and services a frost free hydrant, so I'm assuming it has a moderate to high pressure. We need help soon, this is part of lawn sprinkler system, and we need to water soon. :( Thank you!

    • @Iscaper
      @Iscaper  6 років тому +1

      You may need to cut out a bigger section and use 2 barbed couplings for the repair. Take a 2’ piece of new pipe and push the couplings into each end. Dish soap on the fittings and inside the pipe make this easier. Make sure the pipe pushes onto the almost the center of each coupling. Then I would use 2 hose clamps on each coupling. Instead of a screwdriver try a small ratchet and 5/16” socket to tighten the hose clamps. Careful not to strip out the hose clamps. Next push one end of the 2’ piece of repair pipe with coupling into your pipe in the ground. Remember the soap. Then line up the other end with the end of the pipe in the ground. Make a cut if needed. Slide 2 hose clamp over the pipe in the ground. Put a slight bow in the 2’ piece of pipe to get the last coupling started. Push in and tighten the last 2 pipe clamps. I hope this helps and let me know if it works.

      With non pressure pipes like drain lines primer isn't required with Christy's. I like to use primer with pressurized pipe and fittings because the primer removes the sheen, cleans, and softens so that there is a good chemical bond after applying the glue.

      Most fittings for PVC are IPS (Iron Pipe Size), so if you can get a fitting for the ductile iron in IPS size the connection to PVC should work.

      Will this work with domestic pressure water supply?

    • @Iscaper
      @Iscaper  8 років тому

      +Alan Fox
      I've done galvanized to PVC transitions with good luck but not ductile iron. The only ductile iron I've worked with was larger size (6") for water mains. The transition fittings are the key. The weak point from a rigid piping like galvanized or ductile iron to PVC is the transition fittings. I don't use male or female adapters in PVC because it's too easy to split or crack them. I like to use threaded bushings with couplings to make the transition fittings stronger. For example, if you have a 1" IPS male adapter fitting on the ductile iron end, I would use a 1-1/4 x 1" PVC threaded bushing with 1-1/4" PVC coupling and a 1-1/4" x 1" PVC slip coupling. Glue the bushings into the 1-1/4" coupling. The threaded end of the bushing would then be threaded onto the ductile iron adapter and the opposite end would accept 1" PVC pipe.

      They may not know what you're talking about. You need to ask for Poly Insert Fittings for Poly Pipe. I went to the Home Depot and Lowes websites and typed "Poly Insert Fitting" into their search box and did get results. Home Depot only had a few, but Lowes had a number of the fittings. The Ace website showed no results for poly insert fittings. Here's a link to the Lowes site: www.lowes.com/Search=poly+insert+fitting?storeId=10151&langId=-1&catalogId=10051&N=0&newSearch=true&Ntt=poly+insert+fitting#!

    • @XCyclonusX
      @XCyclonusX 8 років тому

      Only problem with that is the ones I found at HD/and Lowes are for threading into metal female adapters. They don't thread into pvc female fittings and they don't have the slip x barb. Thanks though for understanding my frustration. I can always get what I want from Amazon but with a minimum of a 5 day shipping wait I need to get it right the first time, and with shipping its like 10x more than I'd pay from a local store.

    • @Iscaper

      The poly insert adapters work on both galvanized and PVC female fittings because the fittings are IPS thread. This 3/4" insert male adapter from Lowes: www.lowes.com/pd_22539-322-350407___?productId=3455128&pl=1&Ntt=poly+insert+fitting will work on a galvanized or PVC female adapter.

    That metal threaded pipe insert creates a bottle neck in the pipe, essentially reducing it to 1/2." The stainless steal clamp will rust away. The WD-40 can't be good for the plastic materials, spit is better. Have a nice day.

      You need a threaded IPS fitting to make the transition from insert to PVC. The way you describe would leak and water pressure would blow the insert fitting out of the PVC fitting.
