The masters. If this don't pick you up, you may already be gone.
Maybe my most favorite TOP song. The syncopated horn parts on the chorus after the bridge have always given me goosebumps. TOP, you are the hardest working band in show business. Mad respect, boys. Eternal rest and love to Mic Gillette (1951-2016), Rick Stevens (1940-2017), and Francis "Rocco" Prestia (1951-2020)
Tower of Power = TS-EBG... The Sound of East Bay Grease... *_The Oakland Stroke Lives Forever !!!_* Loving them
since 1970 (I was 13 and in the 8th grade).
Ladies and gentlemen, live from Sacramento California - The Tower of Power! ....and still da best soul funk jam band in any town. Viva!!!
NOTHING like Tower of Power! Simply the BEST!
ABSOLUTELY "KINGS OF FUNK"!!!!Awesome.....Love them since 1982.....Thanks to all who made it possible to see and hear
This IS the band that is most respected by musicians around the world - and with good reason!
JUST A FANTASIC SONG!
Castillo and Kupka. Thank you!
Every time I play this tune I have to play it twice!!!! This performance and production to me are perfection! Rocco's bass line at 3:01 is orgasmic! DAMN!
AWESOME!!!!!!! Mr.David Garibaldi the funk drumming mastermind!
Love TOP....they're coming to my town in a couple weeks and I am gonna be right there feeling their soul, their funk and their awesome brass groove.
This is the coolest music ever!
Dam these guys are sooo killer.
David Garibaldi, kept them all together
The're just getting better and better with age.
Man alive, seriously I think they are as good today as they have ever been.
Going to see them on April 16 and I am excited.
I have 2 words for you: Mic Gillette! Yes indeed.
Studio quality with all of their live performances....amazing!
What an amazing band!
Amazing
Wow, that was a great performance. Great line up here!
Best band from Oakland, Ca.
Are you kidding? Best band PERIOD! Emilio Castillo may not be the virtuoso on Bb tenor like Lenny Pickett is, but he built that Tower of Power and has been the heart and soul of that badass band since the very beginning. .
This is definitive TOP! Dig the groove at 3:00 - truly amazing!!!
i luv em since 1967..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! aint no tower high enough... @richstout..never heard it put that way u got the 10points 2day........and u r so right!!!!!
Larry is killing it as usual!
For all of us that are of 'transcended age' now...we ALL know what 'Can't you see?' means.
Been there. Done that.
Bittersweet it is.
Beautiful song.
great band
Emilio Castillo says this is his favorite ToP song. With Mic on trumpet the song is a bit sharper, a little more dazzling.
Great sounding rendition!!!
Well done!
absouloutly richstout....
shit, this so tight!!
PLEASE SAY HELLO TO MR.DAVID GARIBALDI !!!!!!!!
Ain't no T.O.P. without Garibaldi
L.B. it is.
I've seen Larry perform with the band close to 50 times and I'm with you. Kinda glad now that I'm not the only one noticing this. He sure does have tendency to be flat. Even on some of the live concert dvd's he sings flat. Regardless, I still dig him and his overall vocal chops, along with his ability to cover the entire Tower songbook.
Mic told me that drove him nuts.....
Mic Gillette. That is all.
@richstout
Actually. No joke. And they've done it 10 times longer - for quantity they tie The JBs and from there the discussion can't continue. They leave more homework than Jamerson Bootsy Headhunters. EG fat beats all over that Oakland Zone album - nasty as they ever made - but notice they're already doing their style on the first LP - fave moment, the breakdown in Back On the Streets Again.
Think of R Miller noting, "Fell asleep in the park last night..." - and the band tone that follows.
@MasterBlasterRGR I've seen Larry numerous times live with the band since he joined the group 12 years ago and I've never heard him sound flat. However, you are right.....he is FLAT on this video and on a number of other vids and dvds that I've seen, he does have a tendancy to sound flat. Regardless, the cat's vocal chords are a freak of nature. The range, the power, the stamina....plus, he's a phenominal showman. If you get a chance to see this band live, check them out!
Yup, he sang flat almost all the time...... Very good front man though.
1974 style.
No shot of Rocco until 2:09? Geez.
Garibaldi and Prestia are to rhythm what Lennon and McCartney were to songwriting.
sick sick sick..still the fattest from- the- floor drum tone in all of vinyl era, ever: opening of this track Back To Oakland
@richstout
the lennon/mccartney of rhythm - that is hilarious and unless its hood and hawkins (bootsy and jabbo?) you are rght on.
as for an actual lennon/mccartney in a single person - sly stone. hence, the confusion.
Tight is not a good enough word...
Face it. NO words can describe the resulting thing that a half-century of playing, rigorous rehearsal sessions, and just pure love for their performance quality gives the world. The most bad-ass SHOW BAND alive or dead.
God my dad rips the fuck out of that bari sax
This guy is a great singer but he sings FLAT, shit he's good, but flat.
