When I finally found my dream red RF and saw it was an automatic, I was a bit let down, but after having driven it in the south of France with narrow, winding mountain roads, I'm so happy to have the automatic instead of a manual. This is the type of driving where both hands are on the wheel at all times, back and forth with hairpins. Being able to drop a gear with the paddles going into the tight turns gives me more control than if I was trying to work a stick on the sharp turns. Maybe I'm not as much "in control" as someone with a manual-shifter, but I'm not losing out in the fun department, just the work!
That’s crazy! I’m French-American and live between the two countries, actually near Cannes, and was looking for this video to buy one when I got home. Thank you for your input!
Is it safe to downshift automatics a lot?
Within regular use yeah it’s perfectly safe. Newer cars can last a while with even transmission levels of abuse, just wouldn’t do it with an older one as harshly or quickly.
I don't understand the manual/automatic debate. Drive what you like. Maybe someone doesn't want to learn manual driving. Maybe they're an amputee. Just because it's more "fun" to drive a manual doesn't mean it should deter you from getting a car you want to drive. Been seeing so many more discussions about this online and it drives me nuts. They're like "if it's not manual, don't get a MX-5 at all". There's a reason Mazda's producing automatic MX-5s.
Finally a video showing full throttle in full automatic mode!
Nearly every other review barely steps on the gas or uses manual mode..
Thankyou sir
At least it ain't a cvt
As a weekend car, or driving in less traffic, manual is great.
As a daily commute, in heavy traffic, auto is more convenient. Especially for those with arthritic knee.
Mazda won't put an auto in the car if there's no market for it.
47% des MX-5 vendue sont automatique .
On mine I use the sport only for the back roads. Simple auto is a blast on the highway, better in my view. 2023 auto GT white
MX5 is perfect! Best Transmission ever
My BIG QUESTION: I like the idea the automatic has longer legs on the highway. What is your rpm's at 60 miles per hour?
Keep in mind you can auto shift the stick with no lag whatsoever
True to an extent, although unless it’s a sports car with a tuned transmission there is always some delay in this for the abs majority of vehicles. Much less so with the shifter stock vs. the paddles
What is the top speed of the miata
I love the MX5 Miata!
damn, so good!
Miata's are known for body roll. Must be the KPC kicking in
It's supposed to make noise, it's an open top roadster, not a luxury Cadillac. This is a driver's car , absolutely. Power seats will only add a lot of weight. This car seeks to remove ounces of weight . There is no blind spot in this car. Traffic is either in the mirror or visible to the side. 7500 redline in 2019 and up . 6800 redline 2018 and back for ND. Manual transmission is the way to go. Best manual in the biz for this car . This is a very planted car. Brembo brakes and Recaro seats are what you want if you're buying new. The manual gets a limited slip differential. This car took best quality over Lexus and Toyota for 2020 consumer reports. Fuel economy has been reported by owners between 35 and 40mpg. Takes premium. 50 to 70 (highest so far) dollars Canadian to fill, depending on prices.
I’m so mad that I can’t even get my hand on 1 of this!!!! When I don’t have the money they are everywhere!
I hear ya, a tough one to come by!
Supply shortage, amongst other world things happening today. Placed a deposit for one but my dealership person told me wait time is around 3 months right now (would not be surprised if it's longer). I feel your pain, man lol.
Yeah it’s gonna be a loooong time before I get my ‘choice’ at many vehicles haha
@@radialreviews yep. I'm willing to wait though. My first car was a Mazda 3 in 2015 when I was still in high school. I've always wanted an MX-5 after I got a taste of what Mazda has to offer. Fast forward a few years later and I finally have a chance to get one as an adult :') fingers crossed nothing goes wrong with my order though hahaha
Oh that sounds awesome! Best of luck to you, and I’m glad to chat cars anytime on Instagram!
Very cool video but I just can’t imagine buying an automatic sports car, especially at Miata.
Yeah I hope to drive a manual sometime soon, still relatively new to stick
Find a different gas station. Water came out of exhaust.
“The catalytic converter is designed to convert harmful emissions produced by an internal combustion engine to less-harmful elements: H2O (water), CO2 (carbon dioxide) and N2 (nitrogen).”
I still can't believe they sell an automatic.
life is pointless without a gearbox
an MX5 doubly so
I love my RF
